This transaction indicates that BitMofo owns address 1CyKTdcEHjWtD9FuamThfQA2cjbHvYQnzy
Then later BitMofo claims "Another doubled" sending 4 BTC to 1CyKTdcEHjWtD9FuamThfQA2cjbHvYQnzy

So the 4 BTC was just sent by BitMofo to himself.

I suspect that the lie was necessary to get the ball rolling, but it makes me wonder just how many more of the supposed doubles were "priming the pump" or sock-puppets.  Still hoping for mine to get doubled, but starting to think I'll have to write off my contribution.
Unless it was a double back to the same person?
- Max sends 1 BTC
- BitMofo sends 2 BTC back
- Max sends 2 BTC
- BitMofo sends 4 BTC back
I don't think so. Take a look at the posts:

Max sends 0.5 BTC from 1gdphm to BitMofo at 13plh
https://blockchain.info/tx-index/23573404/846d84f010b61c69996387d56ed1241c967d5476c5a04c469bf092d757162c06
Debit: -0.50 BTC

Then BitMofo sends 1 BTC from 1cyktdc back to Max at 1gdphm
https://blockchain.info/tx-index/23575563/4ed0269f3ed3d0131b474c7b33fde43bdf869b46c102494a7e7176cf52874c57
Doubled.

Then BitMofo sends 4 BTC to 1cyktdc claiming another double
https://blockchain.info/tx-index/23579274/d23b8ec28b10902d5882acc6e2a96418698fa571032bfa459ba417f9929a4e04
Another doubled:

If he can send from 1cyktdc when he sends 1 BTC to double Max's 0.5 BTC, then he MUST own the 1cyktdc address.
This can only mean that when he sent 4 BTC to 1cyktdc he was sending them to himself.

Like I said, it was probably necessary to get things going (much like a musician placing a few dollars in their own tip jar before they put it out). But that particular claim of doubling looks like an obvious lie. Perhaps that is the only lie, but the existence of that lie does make me wonder how many more lies there are in this game.  How many more false claims of doubling? How many sock-puppets?

Uh oh,
After a quick review of the posts that claim successful doubles, it appears there is some lying here:

BitMofo claims to have sent 1 BTC to "max in montreal" with transaction ID 4ed0269f3ed3d0131b474c7b33fde43bdf869b46c102494a7e7176cf52874c57

Of course there is a simple low-risk strategy to ensure that only the tiny initial spend becomes a loss. I'm sure you guys can figure it out :-)

Cheers ...

It's an awesome game.  There's no need for rules.
Agreed. I was just explaining that miln40's assumption that a peak in player donations could create a loss for BitMofo if he doesn't time the end of the game properly might be mistaken.  That description assumes a particular set of rules which may not be true (that donations are doubled in the order they are received, and that donations are doubled even at a loss to the game operator with the expectation that later donations will offset the loss).

Looking at the blockchain it seems it has been over 3 hours since anyone has tried playing.  I'm guessing people are waiting to see if any more successful doubles are posted before jumping in with more donations.

Very interesting!
For the OP to get out ahead, he needs to reach a point. . .
There is no indication on how the doubling decision is being made.

Perhaps he is prioritizing doubling the smaller amounts (lots of feedback from people reporting successful doubles)
Perhaps he is waiting on each contribution until there are enough later contributions to pay the double, just passing the money from later contributors to earlier ones either with no profit, or skimming a bit for profit from each transaction.
Perhaps he has come into some stolen BTC and is spreading it around a bit.
Perhaps he is gambling with the donations and paying out with his winnings
Perhaps all payouts have been to friends or sock puppets

This game is about as risky as it can get.  There is no information about the "rules" or what to expect.  Just make a donation and wonder/hope that you'll get double in return.

If a few dozen people told you about a magic toilet where you could flush down some money and double that amount would come pouring out of a nearby sink, would you believe them? Would you try it? What if you watched it work for several people?  How many people, and how much money would have to be doubled before you would be willing to try flushing down a penny just for the fun of seeing what happens?  How about a dollar?

Very interesting!
For the OP to get out ahead, he needs to reach a point, where the money he runs away with is more than the money he has doubled. Won't be a problem if the growth is exponential (popularity of the topic spreads and more people send them money).
If there is a peak, however, and he doubles it, then he would come out at a loss even if he runs away with the money after that.

Or, maybe he decided that this is his "keep it" point, and he won the game.  Wink
Could be. I suppose saying: "created a list of transactions I still need to double, will get on it as soon as I get home from work!" might jsut be a way to get more donations now that the game is over.  I'm still holding hope that I'll get doubled, but I went in fully understanding the risks.

I have a transaction with over 100 confirmations that didn't get doubled yet.  It's over 15 hours old.
Check the blockchain and you'll see that he hasn't sent to anyone at all since 2012-09-12 22:31:02 (more than 18 hours ago).

Hopefully you are in the list, and hopefully he gets home from work soon.

Have created a list of transactions I still need to double, will get on it as soon as I get home from work!

Looking forward to it.  Hoping I'm on that list:

I don't understand it, but I've got to give it a try just to see what happens:
