Can we eliminate ...Nb8? He collects our b pawn after 49.Nc4+ Kc7 50.Kc5, and i dont see what we get.

I agree with the other two candidate moves

This move will be a very important decision. I am considering Nf6, Nb8 and Bd5.

I think we will lose if we just sit and passively defend any longer. We cannot stop all of whites threats. Now that we have centralized our king it is time that we create some threats of our own.

I also looked at Nf6 immediately planning to sacrifice a6 and go after g3. Unfortunately I do not think it quite works because we end up losing both a6 and b4 are whites passed pawns will be hard to stop.

After King d6 we can move our Knight again.

Kd6: 1 vote (Morecoin Freeman)

Once we move our knight he plays Nc5.

For the moment i am looking at 47...Kd6 48.Bf5 (threatening Bxd7 and Bxg4) Nf6 49.Nc5 Bf3 50.Nxa6 Nh5 51.Nxb4 Nxg3 52.Bd3, and i am not sure if we are just busted or have reasonable drawing chances thanks to our g3 pawn. Will try to assess this again, later Wink The alternative 48...Nb8 with the idea of ...Nb8-Nc6xa5 may be the better try. However, I predict that in the next move we have huge, crucial decision.

Now ...Kd6 looks like the most natural reply (to prevent him from invading via c5), so I vote for that as well.

Post game analysis with Hou Yifan and Yasser Seirawan. I like her a lot, also her chess, but in this game Navara had asked for it. She executed it nicely, though. If i should emphasize one game out of the first four rounds it would probably be the epic struggle Navara-Giri with this very nice rook sacrifice.

Do we know if our opponent is in Gibraltar or Wijk currently?

I like her too and hope she continues to get more chances to play in tournaments as strong as this one. Her performance so far proves she deserves it.

I have seen a few guesses in the thread about who OP might be but I don't think anyone knows for sure.

everyone needs to look at Yifan Hou vs David Navara today. She is +1 after 4 rounds!
