In most rook endings active defense is the best option.

I did not create this problem. It is from a famous game that occurred many years ago. Solve it and remember the pattern.

Your move bitcointalk. You have the black pieces

The current position is updated below

Game 2 (letsplayagame vs bitcointalk):
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 O-O 8.c3 d5 9.exd5 Nxd5 10.Nxe5 Nxe5 11.Rxe5 c6 12.d4 Bd6 13.Re1 Qh4 14.g3 Qh3 15.Re4 g5 16.Qf1 Qh5 17.f3 Bf5 18.a4 b4 19.c4 Nf6 20.Re1 Rfe8 21.Be3 c5 22.Nd2 Rxe3 23.Rxe3 cxd4 24.Ree1 d3 25.c5

possibly, h5 to h3. That would probably be the best move to take the most amount of pieced and to force letsplayagame to move the king out of the safer part of the board. Only once the pawn has been taken!

Maybe we can get the Knight at d3, that's a normal way to play with this situation; Knight through d7 and c5 to d3. The pawn to d3 looks like giving away our advantage.
But still looks like we first must play 24. ... - Qg6. Can't play 24. Nd7 now.

Looks like the Bitcointalk side is losing! Shame! We have fewer pieces on the board (fewer of the more powerful pieces anyway: queens, knights, castles and bishops)

So far the material we lost was sacrificed on purpose for the initiative. We remain ahead in development and have good attacking chances.
