so whats the verdict was the firmware update a legit claim or what?
was it just a case of a seller taking a quick snapshot of high hash rates to increase sales?

Well, from what tech support on his Skype address told me today, we are apparently getting a controller firmware update tomorrow. So I guess we'll see!

Not entirely sure what a controller firmware update will do. The problem appears to be that the miners can't operate at high frequencies without additional power. From looking at the usb-miner diagrams posted on GridSeed's github, their choice of voltage converter allows 4 different voltage selections for the core voltage. Once I get my miners I'll try some things out, but in theory it should be possible to increase the voltages in three different ways: 1) solder a couple pins together, 2) use modified USB miner firmware (different from the TP-LINK USB controller running the custom LightningAsic software), which will require connecting a couple pins temporarily unless you have test units, or 3) use a modified cgminer/cpuminer. It's too bad asiabtc is not including the firmware button.

I have yet to receive my unit but I'd like to prepare.

Does the controller have to be wired or does it work on WiFi? If it needs to be wired I'll have to cable up the space where I'll put it. Smiley

Hello fellow Hashers!

Can someone tell me what size the male 12V coaxial connector is on the Gridseed dual miner? The 5 chip one with the gold heat sink.
I have 5 miners coming in the mail without them, so I need to make my own.
Size is given in letters like size H, I, J, K, L and so on.
What is it?

Thanks and happy hashing!

It seems like there is an initial boost of speed when they first start mining.

I am thinking they hash really fast until they hit their thermal limit, and then throttle back. Any hardware guys out there who can figure out how to better attach the heatsink, or attach a better heatsink, and see if that improves performance.

Hmm...sounds like an Adobe PDF problem.  I'm able to open them and read/view them...not that there's much info in there.  I don't know if this helps but I took the PDFs and quickly converted them to JPGs.  You can download the zip bundle here:  http://www.filedropper.com/guide

Thanks. Same things I can easily see.

In the Scrypt Minder Quick Setup.pdf, there are more pictures, and possibly pages, that you can't easily see. You get flashes of the pictures if you scroll back and forth, especially at higher magnifications. Possibly the same thing with the other guide files.

i was taken with iPhone how to validation
i tried with a USB cable all the same

Three things wrong in the video that I could see:

1) You did not plug in the 12v power. You only attached the USB
2) The fan sits on top, not the bottom. Otherwise it will not blow any air.
3) You have to refresh the dashboard page. It does not change on its own.

Is it possible the USB hub has a few bad ports or is in some other way defective?  Try switching the "good wires" (USB & power) from a working miner with those on a non-working one.

Also, try this:

1. Unplug power cable from TP-Link controller
2. Turn off the USB hub switch (or unplug the hub from the controller)
3. Remove all the USB cables from the hub except 1 of them
4. Plug in the TP-Links power cable
5. Allow the controller to start up and "settle" a bit (~2mins or so)
6. Make sure the controller dashboard shows no devices connected and says something about connecting a USB hub
7. Flip the power switch on the USB hub so now the 1 miner is connected to the controller
8. REfresh the Dashboard to see the 1 miner show up
9. Wait to let that 1 miner start hashing away
10. Next, plug in the remaining miners 1 by 1...about 1 min apart from each other

I did the above and it seemed to be the "right" way for my particular controller/miners to get up and running.  I found that if you power up the controller with all the miners connected it just sits there and does nothing.

Hope this helps, if not, well, I'm really sorry but that's the only suggestions I've got for you.  Embarrassed  The only other recourse I see is trying to get a hold of Jack on skype and asking him to get you one of his tech support guys to help.

Edit:  Incidentally a few of us have setup a dedicated discussion thread on tech support for these over here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=477709.0;topicseen).  This allows us to keep this thread on track for purchases/sales/shipping/etc.

What's 1:4 in your worker's name?

Do you have 10 different workers in the Worker's Name list separated by commas?

Example:

login.wk1, login.wk2, etc... up to 10.

Use the 1 password for all.

What usb hub are you using? A orico, unitek or xipolar or something else?

I didn't realize this but its very subtle. In the instructions it says you have to also fill out the bitcoin fields (with fake stuff just click off the enable button) then it should work atleast it did for me.

Thank you.

I looked through all the stuff.

I am having problems with his PDF's. I can tell there are other pics. They flash for an instant, but I can't figure out a way to bring them up. I think I am missing a lot of text too.

Thanks Worldly.

Is there a Dashboard instruction manual?

The closest thing you'll find to actual written documentation is the link provided on the first of this thread:

This thread is dedicated to Gridseed (LTC/BTC ASIC) technical support discussions.
The original thread from asiabtc is https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/lightningasic-la100m100mhs-scrypt-miner-usd1999-la1ths-usd1750shipped-out-421921

Pardon my ignorance, but are there instructions for running these without the controller?

Does the Windows CPU miner give you Miner Temps and other data? I understand it does not give hash rates.

Is it more stable than the Controller?

I keep getting diedbus errors, where one miner will just drop off and it requires a power cycle of the hub and controller to get it back up. Anyone else know what this is about? I'm wondering if it's just the USB hub they supply with the miners being crappy. I'm considering buying a new USB 3.0 10-port hub just to see if that's what the issue is.

How do you guys get your controllers back online when they crap out after 12-16 hours?
