I wonder why Mitchell is listed as Ex-Staff in your spreadsheet? He is currently a forum staff member.
I put him on Ex-Staff list because I knew he revoked his staff role, but from his reply recently, he only asked theymos to hide his staff badge.

As far as I know, he used to be Moderator for the Dutch board, but not for the last few years. I also noticed he's Staff again (but not a Mod on the Dutch board).
Same as LoyceV knew, and it is reason for Ex-staff information in OP when I made this thread. Honestly I saw Mitchell with Staff badge again recent months, but I forgot about this thread and didn't make an update.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"
At some point I asked Theymos to hide my Staff position, since I got so many random DMs and was kinda done with that. I've recently asked to have it re-instated.

As far as I know, he used to be Moderator for the Dutch board, but not for the last few years.
Just FYI: I started as a Moderator on the Dutch section, asked (and received) patroller permissions, stopped moderating the Dutch section, moderated Collectibles for a bit, but that got quite heated, so I stopped doing that as well and just been a patroller ever since.

Patroller - aka "tattle tailer".. hahahahaha

Surely, I am not trying to spin anything too negatively.. ..

right?

right?

rrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiight?

The contents of this post is only meant to be artistic...... deep, deep, deep down inside, the author of these scribblenings aspires to merely explore ideas.

Pretty please sir..  don't "nuke" me (or my account).

Perhaps you may well know how some bitcoiners (true bitcoiners) might be a wee bit suspicious of policing labels, even though potentially and perhaps there could well exist some actual real world justifications for some kinds of "policing"..

Like the concept of "good" policing versus "not so good" policing.   How are "we" able to determine "which is which" (Animal Farm, if you might know the reference?)**.

**Just being more user-friendly, I will provide the reference:

“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

This should show those applying for a local board or merit source that theymos checks the data and will act accordingly when he feels the need has arisen for any such change.
Yes, i believe so too, but waiting for Theymos to act can be really frustrating most times, particularly when the changes are long overdue. Congratulations Igebotz, i am pretty sure you'd make a great moderator for our local section and keep it clean, now that our activity has increased greatly.

The list needs more updates. You can find the latest data by searching by position

Some mods on the list have not signed in since 2023.
I will take a look at it and update the list after checking.

If it is only like moderators are inactive last 6 months or last one year, but are still staffs, I won't remove them from the list in OP. Probably your post raises an idea for me that, I can consider to add a new column "Status" for Active/ Inactive."

It's not bad idea because today I removed two (unnecessary) columns so I am ready to add one helpful column.

Another moderator has appeared on the forum. This is Igebotz. He became a moderator of the Nigerian section of the forum.
Good news.
Nigerian local board showed big increase in activity since it was created and adding new moderator is a great decision.
I would like to see same thing happening for Croatian board before I die or leave the forum, maybe this is just wishful thinking.

I updated OP with a little bit change in the table format: two columns for Earned merits, Sent merits were removed as now I think they are unnecessary columns.

Thank you for your information on a new forum staff.

It's interesting to see the author of some famous books like Matering Bitcoin, Mastering Lightning Network, Mastering Ethereum, The Internet of money, namely Andreas Antonopoulos, has an account here. He was a forum moderator too.
Indeed, it's quite interesting to know the person behind those amazing books was once an active user of this forum, and based on one of his last posts, it appears that the reason behind his gradual disappearance was how this forum was constructed:

I sent him some merit points and hope he comes back.
Our best bet would probably be Epochtalk [if there'll ever be one] Tongue

Also, making decisions in the forum has become less rapid than in the past.
That's the norm when there's more at stake.

To be honest, I was surprised. This is the first time I learned about this information. I did not know that aantonop seemed to think that the forum was a place for everyone who wanted to learn Bitcoin. I sent him some merit points and hope he comes back. Also, making decisions in the forum has become less rapid than in the past.

You can find all administrators in the same way by typing "administrator" in the box.
It is how I found staffs, admins, VIP members and Donators when I made my threads.

@tranthidung: Cryptios needs an update too:
Official confirmation: alanst is not a member of Cryptios anymore.
Thank you Loyce. I knew about that announcement from Cyrus but forgot to update this thread. On it now.

What could be the reason that a staff would be dropped by theymos after being appointed? Could it be related to wrongly handling cases or intimidation of ordinary members?
Mostly is because of inactivity or abandon the forum. It can be from other personal reasons like Dabs.

Forum staffs were chosen very carefully and very less likely they will turn to be scammers. I recall that one forum staff was removed because of scam (it is very far in the past).

With the re-opening of Vietnamese after being blocked for spam, I hope that the Vietnamese language becomes more active now.
I put my time to request unlocking that local thread but sadly local members did not contribute good things there. Only a representative of BitcoinVietnam looks good and I am very doubtful that Vietnamese guys will be actively in that thread. They are very early Bitcoin adopters in Vietnam.

It seems mitzie is not a staff anymore. Also, He is inactive for the last five months. Can you please confirm if he is still a Mod? You may want to update the list as well.

No, mitzie is not a moderator at this time. By the way, any user can check the list of moderators at any time. It is enough to go to the memeber search page, enter "staff" in the box and select the "Search by position" option. As a result you will get a list of all moderators. You can find all administrators in the same way by typing "administrator" in the box.

There could be various reasons, and everyone's issue might be different. Some may be stepping off at their own request due to personal matters. Of course, no one here to explain unless theymos or the Ex-Mods want to explain why they were dropped from the position. It's possible that they were not active enough, so the admin has to remove them. There are still some Mods who have been offline for over a month still they are Mod. So, I guess it's not a big issue.

Wangbus has been inactive for a year and still holds the position. So, it's understandable that theymos doesn't remove someone without talking to them. @tranthidung, It seems mitzie is not a staff anymore. Also, He is inactive for the last five months. Op, nice to see this thread. It will be nice you remove the rows for earned and sent merits because it is not being updated by you. I also think that the merit information is not actually necessary. Maybe when the post was made, merit system was newly introduced.

While some local board still do not have their own moderator other than the global moderator assigned there. It might be good to get some new names there to moderate their respective local board sections, such as India, Nigeria, Nederlands and other active local board. Definitely this will reduce the workload of global moderators in my opinion.
Wow!!! 100% supported. Frankly speaking we are in dire need of a moderators, and also Merit Sources in the Nigeria Local Board. Thanks you very for bringing up this notice in this thread, we have been agitating on this matter in the local way though we have not broadcast it in the general or the public boards. Therefore i, on behalf of other meaningful Nigerian in the forum to ask Cyrus and theymos and other reputable personalities from the Global Arena to look into the request of moderators and Merit Sources in the local board. Once again thank you.

That's an excellent opinion you just gave @ Blackstar, and it will be a great pleasure seeing that put into fruition anytime soon, as that will definitely lift a certain amount of workload from our respective global moderators.

Am I really the third longest tenured staff, behind Theymos and Hostfat?

This seems unlikely to me.

Staff members come and go, but you were registered in early 2011 and theymos was registered here on February 09, 2010 so you're probably one of the oldest.

P.P.S. Merit per post earned for posts made since the introduction of the merit system would be a better metric.
Done, malevolent.

Update:

  • npost: total posts made since January 24, 2018, 11:00:11 PM (forum time), when the merit system born; till December 05, 2019, 02:30:17 AM
  • emerit: total earned merit till the last week (2019w47) data dump from theymos, stored in the loyce's club at http://loyce.club/Merit/userID_sent_received.txt
  • emeritppost = emerit / npost
  • rank_emp: Rank based on emeritppost (descendingly) and emerit (descendingly) with the first priority is emeritppost.

Note:
  • npost: includes posts made when topic trashed by moderators/ admins. *
  • emerits: includes earned merits in posts made before the merit system began.
All two things are bias factors.
* This bias factor occurs mostly in Russian moderators.

When I did it, I found that the userid of @Andreas Schildbach (userid = 3696) is missing from the list of userid that I took from the loyce's club.
Which list did you use? The account is included in the full list, but missing from my Merit-lists because there's not a single Merit transaction on that account (just like 2.7 million other accounts).
I checked your full list again, and sure you are right.

I took it from there
Usernames machine readable
Full list (1 MB)
Below theymos' raw data, theymos' data, Usernames to go with theymos' data, you made that list, so I misunderstood that one is the list for user who have merit history (sent or gave away). Maybe I dump and the others don't so they will understand this list title better.

Sorry for taking your time. Cheesy

It would be more useful if you were to add their respective subforums too.
I am not going to add it because the names of moderators for each local boards are available and displayed on each board already. If you actually use your local board, you surely know who are your moderators.

Next, some moderators simultaneously moderate some boards, not only one.

Addtionally, if one newbie is curious, there is place to get it. History of local boards

Lastly, I am going to use space for such stats later.
P.P.S. Merit per post earned for posts made since the introduction of the merit system would be a better metric.
I will try to figure it out..

Done. Updated for OP (with correct stats and alphabetical orders) and post #2.

I add it for my file but please check yours, @LoyceV.
can you also include in your data about who are those merit sources? Or, all staff are expected that they are merit sources. .
You can get it around the forum, there are some official stats from the forum, and from the community (in topics); but theymos does not want to see such things. I am not going to this one.
Merit sources are free to reveal their source amounts, though I think it may be a bit unwise. While it will eventually become obvious roughly what the source amounts are from the stats, there's a huge difference between showing up in a "list of probable merit sources" and having a quote out there of you basically saying "I'm a merit source, come beg me for merit, complain about every merit I send, and accuse me of being part of the anti-X/pro-Y conspiracy."

Or, all staff are expected that they are merit sources.
No, all staffs are not merit sources, while the merit source list is not made public, through users merit distribution you can guess who is a source.
Checking the list of most generous merit senders in recent time: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsend and also all time: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsendat
Would give you an idea of who the 98 merit sources are.

It's a nice work OP, it's easy for them to recognize who are those staff in the forum and MOD's.
Since you included the merit earned and sent, can you also include in your data about who are those merit sources? Or, all staff are expected that they are merit sources.

Just a piece of suggestion, thank you.

Oops. You are right. I made a flip between Mr. Big and hilariousandco.

I saw another mistake too. Please give me a minute to check my code and correct it.

Those figures in OP are ones I took from weekly data dump from theymos' raw data and loyce's club. They are not real-time figures

P.S. Some of those earned merits numbers are wrong, e.g. for my account, or for hilariousandco's.

There are also several users with mod privileges on wallet software's child-boards:

ThomasV, Andreas Schildbach, Mike Hearn, goatpig, and Rassah

But they aren't treated like regular Staff members.
Thanks. I will look at them ASAP.

I hope that the list will help newbies pay more time to read posts made by people who contributed to manage the forum. I don't say their posts always have higher quality than posts of normal users but you should read their posts carefully because I am sure that you will improve your understandings on both the forum rules and crypto.
