Theymos has yet to contact me with a yes or a no.

I do see my long term "Frenemy" says nay. Maybe he is right we would fight and I would delete every post he ever made which would not be so good on my part.

After all when my wife was sick from covid-19.  I did get angry and delete an entire thread of about 800 posts. As a protest to the 2020 April fools joke about covid-19.
Although the thread I deleted  was locked for years and of no value other than historical matters.

Very likely it could be too much drama which is why theymos has passed.

BTW after 17 months and 120,000 worth of medical bills my wife pretty much has recovered.
Note we have medical insurance so we paid 8,000 of that 120,000
The damage covid-19 did to me is not gone but has improved> I am still seeing a doctor for treatment. Hoping to avoid surgery.

Letting personal problems interfere with judgement may not be the best thing to do.
And I do have the policy on my modded threads of deleting "fuck you blow me bitch style of posts". Which some may not like.

Firstly the obvious, no I'd never want to be mod.

I've disagreements with some of those listed - and to be blunt those disagreements relate to the issues I had with Frodo.

Phil went on a rampage last year deleting posts due to not liking the April fool joke.
Definitely sounds like someone who shouldn't be a mod.

I'm not super active in moderating there-- I process reports when they come in, but these days I'm not an active enough reader to be highly effective.  It would be useful to have an additional moderator who is active in the subforum.

I don't feel overloaded by report volume, -- though there are a lot of scamcoin mining posts-- but it's always good to have moderators that are regularly reading most of the threads in their subforums and currently I am not.

Okay 👍 I will shoot a pm to theymos and see what happens.

I sent a request to theymos

with cc's to

gmaxwell
mprep
philipma1957

We will see what comes of it.

Thanks I appreciate the vote of confidence. [...] As I said I would be willing to do some mod work.
Since the community has come to a consensus regarding your candidacy for this position, and the fact that you have the time and desire for this, then maybe you should notify Theymos? Or at least send him a link to this thread ... so we at least find out what he thinks about it (I would not like this discussion to be deadlocked).

I will draft a pm to theymos and link this thread to him.

I would create some kind of give away with my 1st year's salary as a mod.

edit :

I would first talk to current mod of btc and alt section's

gMaxwell does btc mining

mPrep does  alt coin mining

as they may want the work and I do not want to take the work from them.

edit:
I will get back to this thread later on this weekend.

฿itcoin for all, All for ฿itcoin.

I am 64 and getting in a car to drive 70 miles to the mine spending 3 hours in 100f temps to maintain the gear and driving back the 70 miles at the end of the day is getting  bit old.

I am a hands on guy but I am a bit tired of the mining grind.

Modding a section would be less physical work for me.
Just like some other members, I am as well backing you as a suitable candidate for the Job.

You are an old members of the community and yet you have been so helpful to members seeking help from both the bitcoin and altcoin mining sections. You replies really show that you are a hands on person and you have a vast amount of experience that you are willing to share.

I am not an active miner, but i have learnt somethings about mining just from reading your posts and replies.

You are an obvious candidate and I think you would make a great addition to the section as a moderator. If frodocooper won’t be returning I can see you being a worthy replacement. You certainly have the crypto mining knowledge and have shown to maintain a high activity level over a long period of time.

Thanks I appreciate the vote of confidence.

Just as a FYI, the payments the mods receive are probably not going to be sufficient to earn any substantial amount of income by US standards. Most mods make a few hundred dollars per month. Mr Big made about $2500 last month, Xal0lex made about $1100, mprep made about $2200, but everyone else made less than a thousand, with most making less than $500, and some making less than $100.

What exactly are the roles that staff members do, that are different from those mods do?
Mods are labeled Staff when they post outside their own board.
That is not always true. If they are wearing a Copper Membership, they will be labeled as a copper member. For example, see when mitchell posts.
I'm not convinced yet: Mitchell hasn't been a Mod (on the Dutch board) for quite a while.
I don't think he is a mod of the Dutch board currently. Theymos confirmed this to me when I brought up what I thought was a bug in his displayed title when being both a "mod" (actually a staff member), and a Copper Membership when I noticed he had moved another user's thread and left a redirect.

Do not know what it pays or if it pays but it would be okay by me to do either one.
In addition to being recommended here, do you think you should go through the registration process to be able to take up the job? I've never seen someone apply to be a mod of a section, I'm curious if it's really the next one. I'm curious if it actually works out in a way I don't know yet, I don't think theymos will pm and ask if someone wants to take this job, he will?
Note I am on the road thus I use this account. Not the main one.
I have zero problem about kyc if kyc is needed.
I simply did not know frodo's departure was going to happen.

While I sometimes did not like frodo's handling of some of my posts he worked hard at the job.

As to the alt coin mining thread and or the btc mining thread it can be difficult deciding what should go where.

Spam is another story it should go bye bye.

Yes, they will get payments but their payments will be decided by levels of things they handle on the forum.

The last financial report from theymos is in December 2017.

I just checked the activity in this section for the last few years and for the last year, apparently, philipma1957 candidacy is the most suitable for the position of moderator, (not to mention the quality of the content and its loyalty). Although for some reason it seems to me that even if he is offered this position, he will refuse ...

If someone wants to propose another candidate for this position, then we can arrange a vote similar to the election of a global mod, (although theymos appointed a different person anyway).

I was not offered the job.

Maybe I would have taken it.

I would not mind modding

He made one post last month and the last post he made prior to that was in October 2020. My guess is that he has been similarly inactive during that time. He may have responded to some reports during that time if he was still a mod, but has probably not been particularly active as a moderator.

Oh, he was active, trust me! Check the editing details on the posts here:  Grin
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--5307087

I am one of the most active members in the section, I watch every child board in it every day even when I don't post. When frod was around the amount of spam was close to zero, we hardly had the time to report any post as he was actively removing spam around the clock, he even did a great job in arranging different topics in their appropriate child board, that task alone is a lot of work.

Exactly the same feeling, in the past you knew that useless topic will get trashed immediately, you knew you won't have endless useless topics around discussing basically nothing. My first impression when I saw all those topics starting to fill the mining speculation was that Frodo was on vacation, I even wanted to post that as a warning to the OP, but when checking when he was last around I had a pretty bad surprise.

I do hope nothing bad has happened to him, and if left because of personal reasons, personal stuff should be kept personal.

I used to think that Staff and Mod are 2 different positions  Cheesy this information is really interesting  Grin
There are also patrollers. I think they're called "Staff" on all boards.
