well from some hacks that often occur in several exchanges that's why I always transfer the tokens that I have on the exchange to a personal wallet because I don't want that to happen to me, keeping in a personal wallet is safer than exchanging

That is an amazing share. Just make a total of all the stolen BTC and you will see it's worth more than trillions in fiat currency.

The first question that strikes to mind is, from where the hell this much money came into crypto market. No wonder why market capitalisation is so strong in the second world.

This will even grow further and will hold on to a inflation process thus making it stronger market.

Yes, off course OP its good information for those who think holding money into an exchange is best way.

That is why I have never store crypto assets for the long term on an exchange because there have been many cases of theft, it is better to store them in a personal wallet. There is no exchange that can guarantee 100% security, it's just that they keep trying to make users comfortable using that.

And this is really huge number, fact is anything made by humans shouldn't be 100% trusted as there would be ups and downs but learn to accept anything even the one that claims to be the head can disappoint someday. It's really a great loss but glad some was able to pay investors. Good for that.

If an exchange is hacked it doesn't mean it's totally unsafe some of the big exchanges can easily recover from it as they make lot of money in the business and they try to make it more resistant to such hacks in the future. The exchange like Binance used to compensate for the loss of users from the hacks and there are lot of advantages in holding coins in the exchanges now than before like staking, lending, borrowing and they are ready to be traded if it is in the wallet during hard times. But still, if the people don't participate in the staking, lending, etc then always good to hold it in the personal wallet.

Decentralised exchanges will always top these centralized exchnage due to high level of security Dex has over cex. If these exchanges upgraded their system to enable users have custody of their funds auxh hacks won't take effect on the exchanges.

Oh my god I am so old, I remember almost all of them. I am going to be honest I do not remember bitcoin7 hacking but to be honest I do not remember hearing about bitcoin7 at all in general as an exchange, like some of the ones here.

However I remember from bitcoinica to this day, it feels like its been just yesterday but the reality is its been almost 8 years. All of them were very very important of course but the most important one will always be mt.gox one because that literally destroyed the whole crypto world for a while, think about like 10 million bitcoins all stolen right now, all gone and nobody spends it and its basically locked and gone, do you know how much it would affect the whole world? We are talking about something as big as binance+bittrex+coinbase all getting hacked together at the same time if it was today.

When binance hacked last year many people was shocked that exchange is very secure so that's why many exchange choose binance but this prove that there is no secure in online because what ever you have it possible to compromised by the other people or hacker.

I hope there is no exchanges sites will hack because funds of the traders will possible to lose so please secure your money once your coins is in the exchange.

Damn, looking back the Mt. Gox really the worst cryptocurrency exchange hacks with 850k BTC. Nothing could surpass that amount and when I saw Binance on that list with 7k BTC loss, really nothing is safe in the internet.
My Friend, there is nothing secure, we should just take precaution. If someone can avoid being hacked, then why do these companies lose so much money and reputation?

Newer research found that some of those hacking were done by the mt.gox themselves. They were hiding the users coins and filling for a bankruptcy. Mt.gox ended a scam. Mintpal too was closed after the 2nd hack. Though the site let users to withdraw their funds, some accused the site of not letting them withdraw.

And i think this is not full list !

If you mean that I have missed an exchange hack, then you tell me I will add that too. Hope this does not increase. Anyways, I will keep updating it

I think you have updated the list completely. If you missed it, I think the exchanges are too small to be listed here. Here get a great knowledge about the hack history of the major exchanges in this market

Nice topick but some information need correction. For example - Cryptopia Jan 2019 1,675 ETH. But Cryptopia lost much more funds for sure, they didn't show clear statistic but this exchange is in liquidation process at the moment. We have different information but in general Cryptopia lost more than 25 million $ coz of that.
 https://www.coindesk.com/hacked-exchange-cryptopia-discloses-estimate-of-stolen-crypto

I think this guy just mentioned about 1600+ ETH but it would be total 16 million worth of various cryptocurrencies. Yeah cryptopia did not mentioned regarding how much dollar’s stolen but Dentacoin(DCN) is very affected, this coin trading volume was big in exchange, a few billions tokens are got hacked. Even though a few new projects are so much affected those are just listed in cryptopia exchange.

This is a good resource, I never thought there was this many. Mt.Gox was the only exchange I have known who became bankrupt after they got hacked. I never knew there was the first incidence before it got hacked. After that whenever those exchanges became victim to hacking activities, the price of bitcoin will suddenly fall in a dramatic way until now. The only chances we can stop those decrease meant of price whenever this event happened, is to follow what has Binance did when they got some sort of hacking in their exchanges. they successfully recovered the victim's funds.

Many exchanges cant afford great security protection or just don't care for safe environment. The best way is to stick with the strongest exchanges and do as much is possible by your own to make safe place for your assets!

Wow so many exchanges already been hacked. This proves how blockchain and centralized exchange isnt safe at all. If you would compute all the loses that staggering to a huge fund that if werent wasted will contributed on the market. Imagine how hackers ripping the money? Im wondering how much was recovered on these hack or were able to get from the thieves?

Yes interesting data. Blockchain itself is safe but exchanges need to do more on security also holders need to store most of assets in cold wallets! Many of exchanges could not recover attacks!

I think the unsafe can be a system of exchanges. For blokchain, I think it's still very safe. Unless for example you have a key and sed blockchain has been stolen. So mistakes seem to be in you.

Its true blockchain is safe and if your assets are offline you have nothing to worry about. Just keep your seed ''under the pillow''
