Even after paying a decent amount of transaction fee one time I waited for more than 12 hours to get back my money.

yes I agree even longer than that we have to wait. ya the solution we must remain patient only.

My longest transaction waiting is before the segwit , took me a 1 week of waiting, that time blockchain was so lag. After the segwit its only 1hr. Shapeshift took you a day to receive? I guess the problem is in their system not with the blockchain.

Whats the longest wait you've had for a transfer to go through.  I used shapeshift late last night and it still hasn't come through. I just did another one and it went right through.

The blockchain never goes down unless and until the hard or soft fork is occurring because it's being deployed with new algorithm when that happens in first place. Then we can off course expect the transaction to be slowed down as miners won't be at work as the master is sleeping. ;-)

Anyway for the shapeshifter problem I believe it's just the fees or may be it could be just shapeshifter itself. That doesn't look big problems and that could happen once in while. You should create the support ticket if the problems not solved yet.

I did not experience a very long waiting for confirmation in terms of transferring altcoins. I think when the SegWit2x was implemented early August when I think it was poloniex that implemented 40 confirmations before the transfer will finally take place, I waiter for several hours but it was not overnight.

try to make transaction through blockchain, you will not have to wait for such a long time, blockchain make transactions easily and use less time because it is connected with system that will be easily break the codes and transfer coins.

Well, that ends my longest wait. I wish it had gone through yesterday..  It would have made me a lot of Bitcoin!  But better late than never.

I really think this is a way back issue back of many bitcoin users, because you would need higher transaction fee to make a faster conversion or transaction, either way you just really need to provide the fee needed and put some extra amount in there so the transaction would surely go straight through and no worries for this if you had the same experience as OP does.

Probably not more than a couple hours but then I haven't had many, as long as you can track it somewhere then at least you know it will arrive eventually. Now you know for the future not to try rush any transactions through with it

why would you lose it(faith) because of the shapeshift ?
at most i only need to wait it for around 2 hours but most of it was around a half hour.
it's all depend on the fees,if you're using it with low fees(below average) you will get it longer than other people.
because you will not be prioritized in the network.
look at here : https://bitcoinfees.21.co/
there will be 2 possibilities that can be happen :
it will go and it will not,
how about lose it ? no matter what,as long as you input a right address you will get it.
the transaction fee is probably the problem here, because if you use a fee above the average of 60 minutes is the time you need, if possible you really need it, you can try contacting the transaction acceleration service provider, it is one way out, and no need to worry because they provide this service for free

Well I even had to wait for a day for my transaction to confirm because I had given the lowest fee available. The Time it takes for a transaction to confirm is completely on the fee you give. Well you can give the Lowest fee to transfer money within your accounts . Like from a generated account to your HD account. Those transactions are comparatively faster

I think the longest time I had to wait for a transaction was around 8 hours. I think I was new to a certain trading site, I forgot which one and it took forever to make a deposit on that site; probably it was because I used the lowest fee too.

It will go through eventually though right?  I mean if its possible to lose my money I just lost a lot of faith in the system itself.
