I have noticed this a thousand time and then I have decided to use copy my comments after I draft it if I suspect that it's lagging.

Unlike Gmail that uses Internet access for its "Drive" except you opt for offline sync, Bitcointalk forum doesn't function that way.

I can't say for sure if it will be visited but for now, you'd have to save your drafts by copying and pasting after a refresh.
Draft aren't much useful in Bitcointalk. At least I didn't think it was that useful. As far as I know, unless you click the preview button the draft function won't save your texts. That's the problem. Even after having the draft feature, if you didn't clicked previous, all is lost.

So it's better to use either, a note app or online notepad websites.

I don't know if the billon dollar one will have that feature but this one does has solutions for that. If you click on preview, what you have written is saved, and if you accidentally click on the back arrow, then click on the forward arrow and the text is as it is.

I would expect the new forum to be like that or better.
In mobile phone using firefox browser won't erase or I don't have to type my post from the start. I didn't even uee preview and when I press back It is still there when I press forward. Honestly, I have been doing it since I joined this forum where I have to oress back to see the first page and then forward to continue typing my post. It my case, it won't be gone as long as I didn't press anything that will load or redirect because it will replace the data and when you try to press backward and then forward then it won't be the where you are typing your posts. Anyway, while I am typing this post I did use the backward or back arrow and then forward to see posts from the last page I visited.

Goodnight, ohh Leo!!! 🦅
I don’t know how correctly I understood your text, but on my laptop, when I write a post, press the back button, and then click again on the page to print the post, everything is saved. Maybe the problem lies when using mobile gadgets. I deliberately tried to do this, but maybe this happens after a pause.
Exactly! His description matches best with Mobile gadgets though...
I personally got to observe that when I used my tab; I typed everything on it and left to complete a a confirmation process on a pending transaction and when I came back, nothing was found... I was so pissed cus I couldn't gather back the right words to write on that particular topic just immediately...

there's alot of patches Theymos needs to initialize - who knows? Maybe he's done everything on Epochtalk already?
As per the news, when donations were collected, it was ~$70,000. So, theymos could easily return it to everyone at the same rates Smiley

Billion-dollar forum? Are you confusing theymos with Satoshi?

Does this forum have any active revenue streams? I don't think the evil-ip-fee or Cooper membership can turn this forum into a billion-dollar forum. Cheesy

This is the reason why Google Chrome disabled backspace for navigation.

If you accidentally but intentionally navigated away, you can come back to the same page without losing anything. For example, if you pressed the back button, just press the forward button again, and it should load the same page with your text.

Why would a donor want their money back?  Huh He gave!
Theymos solicited those donations with the promise of using them to improve bitcoin, not setting up his friends for life.   :/

I read it's possible for auto saving draft in SMF forum, but I think this will become a workload for the forum since they need bigger storage to auto save every users' posts.

Enable automatic saving of drafts - This will automatically save user drafts in the background on a given frequency. The user must also have the proper permissions.
How often should drafts be autosaved? - The minimum allowable value is 30 seconds.

When it comes to create a long post, I mostly type it in notepad so if I accidentally clicked something, there's a pop out message to confirm whether I want to save, don't save or cancel it.

Auto delete after 2-3 days to preserve space. This is widespread in current forums and social media. It's really terrible when you've composed a lengthy decent post and then accidentally click the back button, throwing everything off.

The "preview" draft uses a lot of storage as well, so I don't see why we can't have auto save draft.

It's annoying because if the network goes out after you click the Post button, then not only will the message and the subject be erased, but also you can't even use the back button to go back to the editing page, because that's gone too.
I've saved my text a few times by quickly copying it while the page wasn't loading after I clicked "Post". Usually I just hit Preview after typing a few lines, to prevent losing my post.

I lost a few PM drafts this way.

If I've navigated away it doesn't usually remove the text so I've gone through the same situation you've discussed. Sometimes the text's removed. I don't know why going forward or back in my browser nav buttons isn't consistent each time but I'm happy it's there most of the time so I don't have to retype all of my post.

Using the back and forward buttons should work, but a page reload invariably discards the page data.

Crucial part of this is "if", and preview is not really a solution for this problem as sometimes you will simply forget to press it and unless I am mistaken, few times it didn't even work.

Yeah, if you clicked back arrow accidentally, then you have to click forward and your text is saved.
For some reason that doesn't work for me 100% of the time and I never figured out why. By the way, I am using Mozilla.

This feature is required in urgent basis. I wasted so much time just because my post doesn't saved automatically. Actually I am not facing this problem with hitting back button because I am using default chrome in my smartphone which has feature that I could get back previous page without losing data.

My problem is when I want to scroll up  then sometimes I scroll more and page refreshed and my all data vanished and there is no way to get it back. I lost a long post many times and then I have to write it again. Now I am using notepad for long post but we cannot add automatic bb code there so I think It will be much better if we get this feature in forum here

Though that also depend on the browser one is using. And also if you mistakenly refresh the page everything would just wipe out. This incident made me to uninstalled Opera Mini from my phone. There should be undo features so that in case you delete a vital information from the comment, you can bring it back without stress.
I don't think Opera Mini or other browsers that are designed to save your data or mobile-focused is a great choice to visit the forum. Most of them have this automatic sleep feature, and while you can turn it off you still have other issues like privacy or security if you use them. Other than hoping for an update, you should probably look for alternatives or use your laptop/PC if you want to type a long post. CMIIW.

I recommend this post. I think a lower rank member has created a similar thread like in the months back but we take it as a minor something but this is very much important. There are sometimes when you were typing and dropped the phone to go and collect something at the room or palour and the phone screen sleep off then when you on it back and open the browser to continue everything will just wipe out. Though that also depend on the browser one is using. And also if you mistakenly refresh the page everything would just wipe out. This incident made me to uninstalled Opera Mini from my phone. The trick is to navigate forward again after you accidentally clicked "back". At least that's what works on my browser (most of the time). But since it doesn't work all the time, I avoid it as much as possible. Or open a post-link in a new window, that way there is no page to go "back" to.
Yes, this is what i always do, some exceptions are if the page is reloaded/refreshed, you clear the browser's cache while typing then hit the back button accidentally after you click the forward button its not there anymore.
So hitting preview after typing after several texts could save the day.

Important feature to prevent mistakenly losing content that we need time to write. Sometimes I make these types of mistakes: I write a few lines and accidentally press backward. Because I often use this forum on my smart phone, my finger is sometimes displaced. However, the forum seems to update very rarely, and there are many things that need to be implemented to update the forum. I'm not sure if theymos want to focus on that.

Yeah, if you clicked back arrow accidentally, then you have to click forward and your text is saved. Just don't reload page because then your text will disappear.
It's not just on PC, this thing works on mobile too. I also remember once that when my browser crashed and after I clicked restore previous session, my text was there.

Most of the time it's working with nav buttons but I've been a victim like you've been. When it went wrong I'd refresh or navigate forward back & hope for the text to reappear.

I haven't seen it cut my text more than a few times so I've accepted it happens. As safety to save time I'm getting in the habit of avoiding it.

I have been a victim of this several times and I had no option than to start afresh to type again. I was so pained that instead of me to raise a topic here, I rather had to write a review to my mobile phone producers that they should make a function that will only allow back button in their mobile phone to work when you double click. Maybe you can set it to work once, but for the sake of BTT, I would set mine to work when I double click. My this, I will not mistakenly click the back button.

I don't know if BTT save cookies for security reasons, since the platform has been hacked before.

In browsers like chrome, brave, and others, the undo and redo buttons((Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Shift+Z) ) come in handy if you make a mistake while writing a post. May many forum members may be aware of this feature,
i personally find it quite helpful.
if i accidentally close the tab or click back in middle of writing a post, the text i have typed isn't lost completely it always get saved as a draft.
and also when I reopen the closed tab, i can see my post with the text intact. at that moment, i can't directly post it; instead, i need to copy the text, reload the tab, and then paste it to successfully post the content.

Yes [sort of]... Last time I checked, Epochtalk had an autosave feature that kept triggering every 10 seconds, so you're still going to lose everything that you'd type within that time frame.
- It's worth noting that it's not fully automated (you'd still have to accept a pop-up notification in order for it to load the latest draft).
