I disagree: While the original (and then subsequently rewritten) sources were born from litecoin, and LTCD's namesake pays homage to litecoin as well, I don't want to pull attention away from the litecoin project in the slightest. We don't need to compete with other cryptos at all. We need to improve and solidify the framework upon which altcoins can be built to give way to more and better innovation in order to make something that strengthens all cryptocurrency.
One cannot succeed without the others, excepting of course, Bitcoin proper. These alternate blockchains exist to give way to new experimental developments to help strengthen the crypto economy, not compete with it, fragment it, and lend to trends that could threaten it.
We should be helping each other out, and not trying to steal their thunder.
