WARNING: I say "F*CK". A Lot.
I can open up a laundry service or a retail outlet and name it Walmartinizing. Walmart could sue me. I would win and they would lose.

National Car Rentals, National Geographic, National University, National Enquirer, National Wildlife Federation, National Cancer Institute, and many other National so-and-sos...

Time for your nap. Let the grown-ups talk now.

Can you release a Walmart[Suspicious link removed]d luck with that.

She doesn't know anybody of any significance.

And you know this how?

Would you put your appendage in a face like hers? So what makes you think anyone else would?

Says you mate.  I'd pound mine in all day.

In order for a defense to cost what you suggest, the plaintiff would have to put up that amount or more, just to get the case started. I don't see that happening here.

Not how it works ... just the threat scares of Exchanges, online stores, etc.

You can't sue me for free and think that it would cost me a dime to defend against you. Or can you?

Just let it go. *YOUR* fud has failed.

it isn't FUD you wank. The devs must have worked it with LTC.  No one is that stupid.[\b]

People know people and get inside info.  Maybe she sucked the right dick? Who knows?
You're right about derivative names; after 5 years and 100s of thousands of dollars LiteCoindark wins.  Meanwhile we all have great big 1 litoshi bags.

It is not the tech it is the name.  Litecoin is a trademark. Can you release a Walmart [Suspicious link removed]d luck with that.

FFS, this is bordering on wilful ignorance now.

Google, Walmart, et al, are centralised legal entities with established brands. Unless 'Litecoin Inc' was already an established legal entity and it could be claimed that somebody created a coin solely to profit off the back of the brand of a known legal entity with that name, there is no way to claim ownership of the name 'Litecoin'.

Real information has been provided. If you don't understand name variations and trademark abandoned, that's not our fault.

Still here ... I am not FUDing. I would like real information.

Happy talk doesn't answer the question man.  Trademark law is serious stuff.  Kayne West killed that coin that took his name.  BCTD could be sued also but the Bitcoin people are hippies and I guess don't care.  Just some documentation would quiet this.

OMFG how much effort does it take to ensure you remain so ignorant on the subject of decentralised, open-source, currencies?

Nobody 'owns' these projects. The Kanye West issue was because he owns his image rights. So, unless you can find a celebrity called Mr Litecoin, you're not going to encounter legal difficulties with using any similar names or terms between coin projects, unless a particular tech is closed-source and is the intellectual property of a legal entity.

Flapman do you keep on going..... Didnt you see the link, that the trademark is not owned by anyone...

In addition to all the points made above:

Name variations are permissible. LitecoinDark is technically a different name than Litecoin in the same way that American Standard is different than American Standard Oil.

And then I ask myself about one of the things mentioned above - lawyers keep that stuff secret... Yes, they do until a case is actually filed. So, since Google doesn't show a case having been filed but it does show some twit's tweet - how did she get wind of it unless she pulled it straight from the crack of her derriere?

But as I stated, Litecoin trademark is dead per the US Patent & Trademark Registry:  http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4802:6y86gg.2.2

Are you the chick that posted that tweet?

Seriously, what part of NAME VARIATION being PERMISSIBLE do you not understand? It is a legal precedent that has been set a long long time ago and has held up thousands of times. I know this because I have several corporations on file and have had a couple allegations against me for having a similar choice of name to an already existing name. Those cases were dismissed before any court appearance became necessary. Judges ruled them frivolous and without merit upon initial review.

Go learn something. Google and Wikipedia will get you straightened out on general legal matters.
