I love bitcoin, but i think airlines are a wrong market to approach, for a security point.  I guess credit cards can be stolen tho.  Good luck with it.

Cash can be stolen also, but is still usable at airports.

I sent an email to Tony Fernandes the head of Air Asia, I did not expect a response.  Tony Fernandes is the Richard Branson of Asia.

Surprisingly, I received a reply from Tony and two other executives.

I live in Thailand and have used Air Asia many, many times.  I know they are are a very progressive company and their market share is expanding each year.  Asia is a huge market.

In their replies they have requested more information.  They would like the adoption rate and which companies are using BTC as a form of payment around the world.  In my original email I inserted a link to BitPay.

Could anyone please offer suggestions with any figures, or, is there somebody that could make a good proposal.

If a company, like Air Asia, were to adopt BTC as a form of payment it would be a great boost for the airline and Bitcoin.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

nice, good to see they are interested.

I keep finding it and then losing it but where's that website that shows estimates of the current market capital and current coins in circulation of all the coins not just Bitcoin in existence? It was very good and would probably be great help to these guys, you should also explain though that because it's decentralised it would be very difficult to locate everybody. There's also Bitlisten ( if I remember right this was the non-virus/hijacked one ) so you could post that if they want to have some fun looking at how many people are trading on MTGOX off hours Cheesy http://www.bitlisten.com/ I'd recommend getting a lot of exchange data together or maybe getting some articles on the volume because I suspect people would have already done maths regarding that.

AirAsia is one of the most famous and well rated airlines in the world. They don't care about advertisement from Bitcoin Roll Eyes. I can't believe some people here actually used that angle to talk to them.

However AirAsia is probably the most efficient cost killer of all. Everything they do is thought to kill cost, sell lower prices tickets and make more money out of it. Anyone who has ever traveled AirAsia can attest to that. They are really apart from any other airlines I know of, even other low costs. And they are one of the few companies I know that is actually charging you transparently for the credit card fees if you choose to use a cc.

+1

but i dont think that they dont like a little promotion from adding bitcoin. but of course, the "cost killer" effect by accepting  bitcoin and the other pros of bitcoin is what matters at the end.

i sent him an email too.

some data about air asia:

Revenue             Increase RM 5.0 billion/US$ 1.62 billion(2012)[3]
Net income     Increase RM 1.88 billion/US$ 0.61 billion (2013)
Fleet size              141 (more are comming)
Destinations     88 inc.subsidiaries

By the way, if you are interested in doing this, I can only suggest you to contact Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair. Like Tony Fernandes, this guy is extremely disruptive and he will explore ANY option to lower costs. He once wanted to fly people standing up. And he is a well known libertarian too. And Ryanair will also do anything for advertisement (even though Bitcoin don't directly provide any buzz value, they might be used by some imaginative mind in a scheme to generate a nice buzz).

Hello Tony,

My name is                        .  I have never traveled to Asia and am from the USA.  However I am a bitcoin enthusiast.  I had no idea that your company existed...but I heard of your company through the bitcoin talk forum.  I am simply one person but I do have a fair bit of bitcoins and would be willing to use them, down the line, particularly if there were real world services that accepted them such as airlines.

I have seen 3rd party travel agents that likely accept btc and convert it to local fiat currency to spend.  This is okay, but larger companies definitely need to be more forthcoming and accepting of this concurrency in order for adoption to happen faster.

By accepting bitcoins your company can gain several advantages -

lower transaction fees

quicker acceptance of funds ( an hour as opposed to one - two settlement days with credit cards )

it is a one way transaction that cannot be reversed or erased

its secure

your company would be a first mover that is known for supporting the cryptocurrency economy...more users would flock to you for adopting usage and

you could see an entire new segment of customers with disposable bitcoins (like me!)

if you choose to not cash out the bitcoins now, you could allow them to sit and appreciate to a higher price which would allow you to gain substantially from the increase in value.

I am just one individual but I am going to participate with bitcoin talk in spreading the word to others to ask that they reach out to you to consider accpeting bitcoins.  Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

On Bitcointalk as Frankenmint

Great, please tweet to Tony about accepting Bitcoins and that will get his attention.
