But it is perfectly secure without the need of another factor of authentification unless you may mistaen and fall victim of phishing sites. The lat design graphic lunched in the home page of MEW make difficult the try to make a similar site; just bookmark the correct address or use metamask which is also secure. What are the options are which one your guys are using?
There are lots of apps available on android mobile to store ERC20 tokens in our mobile like the wallets like Imtoken,Freewallet.org,but none of them are secure as much as MEW.What are the options are which one your guys are using?
If you want to keep them in long term then buy and hardware wallet called Ledger Nano S which now support ERC20 tokens too.
Get some hardwallet you can buy either ledger nano or trezor it is for your own safety because theres a lot of hackers in the web which will do everything so scam peopel.Do not install suspicious apps and extensions so that you wont have anything to worry about because metamask extension will protect your private key encrypting inside the metamaks,so these hackers wont get your accounts easily.

Use hardwallet wallet so that you me wallet will be more secured,isntall metamask extension to protect your wallet's private key from being stolen by the phishing sites and malwares,metamask extension would be the best anti phishing extension today and it is also recommended by the mew itself because this extension will block your access from potential scam sites. Just basic ways to prevent your funds to be stolen:
Use metamask, always check your search, some letters could be slightly different , for instance with dots or other symbols, don't open suspecios link

I do not know why people here say that the MEW wallet is not safe, I think that it is very safe on the contrary, so I think that making MEW even safer is certainly necessary, but I think it will be superfluous

I think Myetherwallet is very safe, to be more secure when logged in should use json / keystore files to be more secure because it is definitely the phishing web will have trouble opening your account.
i think there is no any another way to secure more the MEW. you can use metamask as transaction the altcoin. it is slightly more secured compare to the general MEW wallet. there is no any another way.
The problem of MEW is they not have 2FA or recovering feature. For securing, the good choice is by use METAMASK. Metamask is a browser plugin that possible you to un need to use private key every login times. You only need to import your private key in once than you can access your wallet just with type password that you set when you install metamask. Metamask will handle your session to login on wallet and take care of security problems.

I've been using mew for a year now. and its very safe i store almost all my erc20 token there. just don't give your private key to anyone.
for alternative, take a look at metamask. just the same of mew. you can even use your metamask account to mew.
Here're few advices how to make use MEW safely:
1. Bookmark it and always open it only from the bookmark
2. Before unlocking the wallet check MEW official twitter for any kind of hacking attempts.
3. Unlock your wallet only using Metamask and only if you need to send tokens. Use Meramask to send ETH. and etherscan or ethplorer to check the balance.
4. Never share your private key to anyone and never open any suspicious links from your mail.
Following these steps will make your money safe.

I use mew from myetherwallet as long as you keep the private key and do not give anybody surely you will not experience many problems
You can not make an online wallet even more safer if that is the only feature in securing it, But it is your own choice in keeping your coins safe if you want it to be more safer please don't be clumsy enough to share your private key or lose it because if that Private key will be gone then say goodbye to your coins and token, Well if you want a more safest wallet for your coins get a cold storage one to be sure on the security features involve in it.

As was mentioned myetherwallet doesnt provide 2-factor verification neither via Google 2fa nor SMS. So there is no posibility to make it safer.
But if you want to be sure your ethereum is in safe place, just generate private key from secured device. And then transfer.
Or if you want hot storage with top security - you need to buy one of harware wallets like Trezor which provides token transactions
I think bookmarking the website and then using on brave browser is enough security. MEW is not a wallet to enable 2fa

Mew don't need 2 factor authentication or sms verification code because it already has the most secured form of password called private key it is impossible to hack your private key,so you need to keep your private keys safe if you want your MEW to be secured.An other things you can do are
- Keep the system offline when it is not needed
- Use the ether scan.io to keep track your transactions
- Bookmark the official website of MEW so it will prevent you from entering into clone websites
