Well that's so sad. Even if everything is "decentralized" doesn't mean it is safe. It is hard to tell which one is legit and scam. This is another lesson for us to be very careful investing our money in cryptocurrency so invest money that you afford to lose only. Dig everything and do your own research before spending out your money then you may expect it to be big

This is a reminder to be careful with our account to keep in mind that only a handful of person you should trust also to always preserved your back in a much safer place as possible. This is also to notify us that is not wrong to carefully secure our account because after all it is our money we are talking about here.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for this guy? Who gives someone else the access to his personal computer? I am having a laptop with me, and till now I haven't given access to anyone (including my spouse). If you behave in such a stupid manner, then you don't deserve any of those returns from the Bitcoin rally. Perhaps fiat cash suits you better.

This is a mistake that every new user is doing these days . Just be clear about it that no one will give you benefits for nothing . Sharing your private is the last time you will ever access your wallet as all the scammers seeks for such opportunties . The incident was very unfortunate but i hope many of us got a lesson from it . Don't go for eye popping offers that might lead to the loss of your assests.

Thats aint good to happen with anybody in the crypto land. To be honest sometimes I think it is our own mistake and more or less under care which brings us in the position of bringing into situation like this. The crypto and cyber attack has now increased widely and we can't imagine how bad this could go in long term if we kept doing mistakes like this.

I wold always recommend myself to protect my private keys and key stone files with another password management system and thus giving it more security than anything else. Never ever should store the private keys openly and never should it be shared with anyone. Thats bad really.

Incredibly sad.

Not really. He sounds like a retard.
“He needed access to my computer, so I gave him access to my computer and it was a big mistake. I gave him the password,”

Oh, come on, I'd expect this from a 10 year old, but not from a grown man. This is the type of stupidity IRS scammers and fake Indian support companies have been exploiting for years.

You should aware of scammers in this crypto world. You should not believe any one blindly and give the password for trust. You are a grow man buddy you should not do like a kid to give password to others. It's your hard earned money buddy so you should beaware to invest and avoid to lose to scammers.

I am very sorry for that guy because his story is very sad and what happened to him wasn't right. But, in other way it made me alert of such kind of people who can scam the people who aren't technically good. If the person who got scammed had any knowledge about security and passwords he should've not faced any losses.
People should be aware in the crypto-world about all the scammers because in this world there are thousands of fraud people who can steal their coins. Because of his loss many of us should be aware of such kind of possibilities and we should better make all preventive measures of such kind of issues.
The scammer should have not done this to a disabled guy but there aren't any emotions in those people because they are t greedy.

Note: Never ever trust anyone in the world of crypto than your own self.

People in the cryptoworld to thru a hype, often felling like a drug. i saw countelss times when people just throw their money on ICO without very much information. They also take part in numerous scams...bitonnect being the biggest. When that little baby pops i think we will see much more impressive stories of people losing their money.
That is so true .It seems like they don't really know the value of money once it becomes digital, they start throwing in every site or project that is flashy and has a hype around it ,as if they are clicking on ads on random websites and spending thousands of dollars not knowing what they are really buying.

A story that everyone needs to know, I deem the scammers of this man doesn't know the situation of the person he had scammed.
It is like giving your pin to your credit card in which someone could get access to your funds and withdraw your daily limit.

P.S Never ever give to anyone your code.

$22000? That's not much over 1 BTC. People have been scammed much more than that. I, for one have been.

Why is this such a big deal?
Here's the big deal, for some people who live in countries which haven't been developed yet or like have not the best facilities, for them, 22000$ may sound quite a lot. Like for example, 22000$ is equivalent to 14 lakh INR( Indian currency, Idk why they use lakhs but apparently they have a different math system ) and 145,000 CNY. It makes a difference there and quite a few people are dependent on bitcoin.

He's not the only one whom lost their money by this way.Smiley). For now it's really difficult for hacker or scammer to be able to cheat people by this way cause they did it too much before. But there are some people still don't know about it and too believe in other people so they lost their money and people whom lost their money by this way at the moment often are newbie, whom just joined cryptocurrency world for few months or weeks. This is a good warning for other people, don't allow anybody access to your computer and remember to set up the 2fa for you wallet so they can't steal your cryptocurrecy although they could access to your computer Cheesy

Why is this such a big deal?

I think the story was highlighted because the man who have lost $22K was partially disabled. And he invested his life savings to cryptocurrency.

Well, for starters, you probably should not trust everyone. It's worth to protect yourself. And if you mean trading on the exchange, then of course no one is immune.

He thought that the was really talking to the customer support. And by my reckoning "trusted" the person on the other side. That's why he let his guard down by giving away his password. And then if was already too late. Money is gone and so is this man's life savings.

Well, for starters, you probably should not trust everyone. It's worth to protect yourself. And if you mean trading on the exchange, then of course no one is immune.
You should not trust anyone when it comes to money,he just made the dumbest decision of his life to give a remote access to someone with all of his coins saved in his computer,it is like giving the locker key to someone and trusting he wont steal anything,i am sure he knows which company he asked for help and who stole his money,it can be tracked to the individual who stole the money with minimal effort.

In my view, he truly thought the number he called is the customer support. There's also another thread that I read before  similar to this. But what's strange is that he search for the number of the trading platform on the web and got the so-called "support" number, however, its the scammers weird though. We can't really emphasize how to protect our accounts, one mistakes and all our investments vanished in thin air. NO one is immune.
