That address from OP is still has a 0 in the balance, so at least we know the OP didn't get caught on the hook - but each email may have a unique address, so I have no doubt that some of the stimulus checks will be cashed in to pay the ransom.

Fortunately those who try to deceive people in this way are not very imaginative, because there are public databases of secretly recorded webcams videos, mostly from sites like chatrubate. Many are not aware that they were secretly recorded via webcams, you just need to connect face to the name and here's the real blackmail.

Some people would feel paranoid because of reading that email and make them panic and cannot think clearly. But we need to calm down when we receive that email because if we did not do anything like what they say, we can delete that email and don't think about it. I always try to remove the email that I don't know without open the email because I think the email will not be too important for me. Perhaps, they send the email because I subscribe to their email list in the past, or they can buy the email list from the other third party.

Thank you for share that news, and I hope that all of us can take care of ourselves from the scammers. We need to be careful about anything, especially if it's related to the internet because the internet will not always tell the truth.

lol seriously man ? serious virus and sex video ? how can a virus penetrate when you have your anti virus active in the first place and also how the heck he recored your video when you dont have a webcam at the first place and you dont also live stream yourself on adult sites  . lastly he ask seriuos amounts there that its also impossible to be paid by average joe .  not sure if there are people on thier right minds are going to fall for this.  however there were legit blackmailing cases on the past but that is if you already have a contact on that person before

You'd be surprised that laptop users are highly susceptible. If you do some online search, there are demonstrations on how easy it is to actually gain access to one. That's why it's recommended to tape the webcam or unplug it (from the PC).

It doesn't have to be anything sex or porn-related but that thing could spy on your every move, including digging your own nose.

What a fool if somebody would actually believe that, and I think that isn't a sex extortion. That's more like a threat, a form of blackmailing in exchange with Bitcoin.
That's actually plain desperately stupid to threat people with things that its almost impossible to happen, and I don't think it's a terrifying scene when someone uploaded a video of you watching an adult film lol. Absolutely, nothing wrong with that, everyone watches adult film atleast once in a while.

I don't think it is a sexual activity watching 'adult' web sites.
If watching porn isn't a sexual activity, I don't know what is.  Likely there's some kind of wanksterbation going on, because people generally don't watch porn for any other purpose.

Hopefully people won't fall for this shit, but unfortunately I think there's always a gullible population that will.  No matter how insane scams like these sound, they play on the fear of being embarrassed and that can be powerful when combined with ignorance.  I didn't get this e-mail, but props to OP for posting this.

I admit my heart did sink for a few seconds then I realized obviously there is nothing to worry about.
Yeah, and that's exactly the reaction the scammer is looking for.  Luckily you're not gullible.

I got one of these. I looked at it because the title was clickbait and I am very curious and wanted answers. I admit my heart did sink for a few seconds then I realized obviously there is nothing to worry about. One thing does bother me though. They use a single password as "proof" they have hacked you. The password involved the name of a very old gf that I had in 2010 lol so I don't know where they got it from. Maybe its one of those stuffing dumps people use to try hack into different accounts but still? How did they get that? It still bothers me that one of my passwords was seen.

Anyway, I replied to the email because I was curious about what sort of videos they could have been talking about? Yes, I watch porn I am not ashamed of it. My webcam drivers don't work so I have never used my webcam before. They also told me they had remote access. If they had remote access they wouldn't need me they could get my passwords and stuff and private keys themselves.

I told them I was very excited to see what they post and I hope they send it to everyone I know ^^
Obviously, this was just for fun. The email didn't even get reviewed the sending email must have just been one of many spam accounts set up for this.

This kind of e-mails have been circulating since the prominence of the Internet, remember the Nigerian prince? Yeah, that one where he is a part of your bloodline, many have been scammed by that. This is the kind of posts that should be circulated on many forums to disseminate information. I never thought that this kinds of scams are getting more and more elaborate, and they now using btc for transaction. A piece of advice to all the people of Internet, be aware, atleast read some news, getting updated in what is happening around you wouldn't hurt. It is kind of funny but if this lands in your e-mail then reply that you don't care (not advisable if you are not bold enough).

There are people who are saying that smart people or people who think right will not fall for the scam is such a douchey thing to do, I find it funny that people are bragging that they are smarter than other people, help in dissem :-\inating information guys, it helps a lot.

You and I both know this world is full of idiots so this is a psychological game that's played not by the ones who leak these images but by those watching it after it leaks.

I have friends who had their private parts exposed on the internet and it wasn't a fun thing for them. Next thing you know is your inboxes are flooded with all types of idiots saying all the crap that puts your moral down to the ground. It's not the videos/information/pictures, it's the people. And if the threat is real and the media really is leaked on the internet, it unfortunately ends in a dramatic way more times than it should.

Then maybe everyone should post a video of themselves wanking to completion on their Linkedin profiles to nullify this for good. As with most things in life the expectation is worse than the reality. I'm an old git so the idea of touching myself live for anyone to record seems a little bit off kilter. If something like this were to happen I would do a Jeff Bezos and preempt it.

I've never understood the people who cave or worse when threatened with the real deal, let alone pathetic crap like this.

We all have willies, minges and ring pieces. Many of us fiddle with them on a regular basis. If I got sent an attachment of someone I knew shoving a blender up their arse it would certainly be a surprise but the only thing it would change in my feelings towards them would be to keep my blender packed away when they came round.

I could understand someone properly freaking if they were filmed murdering someone or fiddling with orphans. Beyond that I assume most people have their private deprivations. No biggie if it slips out.

Sextortion is defined as:[1]

Quote
The practice of extorting money or sexual favors from someone by threatening to reveal evidence of their sexual activity.

I don't think it is a sexual activity watching 'adult' web sites. If this is the kind of threat they are giving, I don't think somebody crazy will fall for it and actually pay that huge amount in BTC. And sharing that alleged video of myself randomly with my friends is not threatening either. Well, we have probably watched a lot of those 'adult' web sites together. They won't be surprised anymore. LOL!

[1] https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/sextortion
Your definition says that sextortion means extorting money by blackmailing them about their sexual activity. If you read whats written on that email, you can clearly see that the sender is trying to sextort the receiver.
It says that he has been recorded through his webcam (which indirectly implies that he has been  "touching himself"  Roll Eyes while watching porn), and will reveal those videos to his friends. So, yeah it is a kind of sextortion.
And, someone random watching you through your webcam and knows who your friends are isn't threatening? Wow, good for you.

Thank you for the warning, but I think logical people will not simply fall for this kind of gimmick.

I would say that this is a "rehearse" of previous scam attempts, way back when Internet just started. Just delete and move it to trash and don't pay attention to this kind of scam attempts. In Covid-19 related, Pay me or I’ll cough: Bad actors bully email recipients with new Covid-19 extortion scam.

Even illogical people would understand that the threatmaker can't come to your house due to strict lockdown enforcement by police. Ironically, guess who's going to pay a fine if they walk outside for no reason?

This type of blackmail adult email scams is as old as the internet.
Why do you care about this?Yeah, the scammer wants Bitcoin payments, but nobody with a brain would believe this blackmail and pay 1000 USD for nothing.Seems like people with internet connection, living in some third world country have nothing to eat,so they decided to do this desperate old email spamming blackmail scam attempt.Ignore this and move on.
Old as the internet that even a kid won't believe anymore. This is not even a blackmail because they have nothing to destroy or scratch your image, you did nothing wrong so what is the point of being scared lol.
This kind of scam involving email has been in the world since the internet was created, it will about to live back today as every people even scammers needs a cash but it's 2020 don't be that foolish person to fall with this scam.

There's another oldest scam in the book going around, and it involves old passwords from hacked sites.

Same content, but the chances of extortions are higher. If those recipients have been using their ancient passwords, chances are that they might even buy it.

Hmmm, I doubt people would pay willingly for that. Unless their a pretty old person that seldom uses the internet/pc. But who the hell watches adult videos while being ignorant of what the internet/pc is right? Additionally, you can also prevent yourself from believing it just by taping up webcams on your laptop or your external webcams. But honestly, it's like 1 in a million chance that someone would be able to spy you over the internet. There are only two chances of that happening, one is either you get malware that lets the other hack into your person or the other be the person himself putting out cameras onto your house. Both are highly specific and could only be described as intentional, so the chances are unlikely tbh.
