I think this fits the definition from a dict shared above. Are you saying that sextortion is an attempt to get nudes pics/vids from somebody and not anything else?
~
I missed the definition shared above, apparently I was the wrong one as I thought "sextorsion" meant something completely different. I thought sextortion was threatening someone to forcefully send certain sexual pics/vids (not money) of themselves or personal information would be exposed on the internet.

My bad. Smiley

These emails are circulating for a while now. A couple of years ago I received a similar email claiming they have a video of myself masturbating in front of my laptop while watching porn. People could have sent them some bitcoin in fear. For me, I've now put a tape over the webcam to not to suffer any mental stress in the future.

This type of blackmail adult email scams is as old as the internet.
Why do you care about this?Yeah, the scammer wants Bitcoin payments, but nobody with a brain would believe this blackmail and pay 1000 USD for nothing.Seems like people with internet connection, living in some third world country have nothing to eat,so they decided to do this desperate old email spamming blackmail scam attempt.Ignore this and move on.

By the way, this is not sextorsion! I thought this would be an e-mail from someone asking for nudes or in 24hrs a big "bomb" of personal information would be exposed on the internet.

The question whether watching adult website is a sexual activity is not really important imo. It's a blackmail attempt, that's for sure, regardless of what kind of medium they use to force you.

Let's just hope the address can be identified even though the chance is small so we can catch the perpetrators.

I think people who have received these kind of emails have matured already so at least identify this as a malicious intent to scam them so no one is sending anything from the scammers and I do hope that no one will because it is obvious that this is a scam attempt. I would understand is someone is going to fall to a sophisticated scam but this one? Nah, I don't think so.
There is always going to be new people in the crypto industry so there are constant streams out there of possible new victims. When Bitcoin or alts will explode, the digital frauds will surge too.

If you had received right now a message like the e-mail OP linked to and you can relate to the password and information from it, chances are you will be scared it might be real. Newer people or non tech geeks are going to fall for it easily. No one wants pictures and videos of themselves to pop up everywhere on the internet. It changes your life. Psychology is what these cyber frauds work on.

Not unless if you are guilty about that extortion so better be aware and secured.

Thank you for the warning mate, that's why I didn't open any spam emails that come to my Gmail account.

The phishing scam cases also grew together with pandemic coronavirus. New Survey Finds 22% Of Americans Have Been Targeted By Digital Fraud Related To COVID-19.

The mere fact that someone will do sextortion to you definitely that person is already committing a crime. If such instance comes to your way you may immediately report this to the authority for assistance. Even yourself will have an idea if this scam is appropriate to you like if you video sex then it is possible that they really have sex videos of you. Moreover, scam messages that ask for monetary exchange BTC often times can damage your computer(probably malware infection through the link) better not to open this type of message.

Im not surw whether people can fall to this lame scam attempt.
Honestly, there are.

None tech people that would receive this kind of email will no doubt pay for them if they do the activity as said by that email. I have read complains like this on a certain outside community and that woman was stunned because she don't even do the accusation but asking how to obtain bitcoin through cash.

They don't even know bitcoin and those address things yet they are scared because of the scam threat.

The address is zero balance and hoping there will be no victim this time.

Worldwide Payments Accepted in Seconds!
Im not surw whether people can fall to this lame scam attempt. Cryptocurrency becomes a ground for scamming and stealing money by phishing, style like this, that most of us here will probably ignored. However, how about those who seeks profit or gains? Im sure who will be victimized by this are those whom are doing sex videos on their phone.

This is dangerous, since some might fall or scared to leak those if they have. But how this scammers will possibly know if you have one? So technically its nonsense, its a send to all scam get away email.

Just avoid it. Then if you have one, dont be fooled how can they get it right?

Sextortion is really a disgusting way of blackmailing.

Sextortion is defined as:[1]

Quote
The practice of extorting money or sexual favors from someone by threatening to reveal evidence of their sexual activity.

I don't think it is a sexual activity watching 'adult' web sites. If this is the kind of threat they are giving, I don't think somebody crazy will fall for it and actually pay that huge amount in BTC. And sharing that alleged video of myself randomly with my friends is not threatening either. Well, we have probably watched a lot of those 'adult' web sites together. They won't be surprised anymore. LOL!

That is good share. Seems like people have nothing to do at home and devil thoughts are flooding from their minds to rob people sitting at home. Lol.
I mean why the heck we should pay thousand bucks for scam plot like this.

Hopefully newbies in the world of crypto won't fall for this mail!!

Thank you for the warning, but I think logical people will not simply fall for this kind of gimmick.

I would say that this is a "rehearse" of previous scam attempts, way back when Internet just started. Just delete and move it to trash and don't pay attention to this kind of scam attempts. In Covid-19 related, Pay me or I’ll cough: Bad actors bully email recipients with new Covid-19 extortion scam.
