Hey guys,
Apologies I haven't been around the forums much recently...
I was reading some of the negative sentiments expressed recently and thought I should at least post to clear up a few misconceptions. I'll also ping our Head of Communications and let him know you guys are feeling a little neglected
1) Mastercoin is bad because there is no wallet available yet. There is no wallet
publicly available yet. That is not the same as no wallet at all. Even that's not accurate as Graz has wallet functionality in masterchain.info. For example the recent dev MSC sends were all done by J.R. using a certain Mastercoin wallet (hint, there was a video demo recently). Internal testing prior to beta should be considered a good thing
Additionally, please understand that Mastercoin wallets are not just a case of forking an existing QT wallet and changing a few parameters like most wallet releases - these are ground up builds starting from nothing. For my own wallet - that's over 4000 lines of code that had to be written from scratch. I hope you will understand this takes time.
2) There is very little happening on Master Protocol development. This couldn't be further from the truth (you guys know we are launching DEx in less than a month right?). It's simply that a forum is not an appropriate place to collaborate once you scale past 10 or 20 people (and we're well past this in terms of head count on the project). We use other collaboration tools which whilst not as visible to the community, are more effective. I can only speak to my own experience, but I have almost daily contact with a bunch of different parties on various topics, and attend at least two teleconferences a week (a project management sync & a development sync). Craig can attest to the fun of getting 20+ people across a bunch of different timezones (I'm committed - 6AM for me
) onto these calls for a couple hours each time!!! But we make it work. To really make sure this point sticks I'm going to take the rather unusual move of posting a screenie of my dev inbox (names & content removed to protect project IP) - this should give you an idea of the frequency of internal communication happening on the project. Trust me when I say it's never quiet! Sometimes I even struggle to keep up!
3) The recent dev initiative will add 150,000 MSC to the total amount of Mastercoins in existence. This is simply inaccurate. Mastercoin has a fixed cap and the foundation has committed since day one that there is about as much chance of Mastercoin's cap being increased as there is in Bitcoin's 21 million. This is large scale re-investment into further development. Also Dev MSC are already factored into the fixed cap (619,478 MSC), it's just that not all of them are spendable yet. Dev MSC are vested over time (ie they become spendable) but they are not created/generated.
I hope that helps to provide a little context around some of the concerns that have been raised, now I need to get back to coding - I have a large buglist to clear before beta
Thanks
