Can I get merit for it?  Grin

Nope... for 2 good reasons,

1st reason: Your TL* ignores 3 daily closes. The general idea is correct but you drew it half-right! Try draw it on the Bitfinex's chart though, the trend seems to follow the TLs more accurately with their price chart. Check this one for example; I made it for fun though so don't give it much though! LINK
2nd reason: I can't merit you even if I wanted too! Roll Eyes

*TL = Trend Line

3rd reason... who gives a ratt's ass if you are correct or not, and you are bragging about your supposed ability to predict

4th reason... comes off as merit begging...

5th reason ... there are decent ways to actually earn merit without begging... for instance, go out there and have fun with your posts,  post on subjects that you like, genuinely interact with other posters in the thread, and provide meaningful information and merits will likely follow without any need for outright begging

Yeah, that.

I have never sought rank here, ever. I had some fun with it when I achieved Hero Member, but it was just that: Fun. Then people started asking me how I got there.

Best answer I had was I spend too much time on this forum.

Then I was gone for a year, due to a great many personal issues. When I come back I'm Legendary Tongue

Honestly, if you're trying for it, I doubt you'll get it. Go out, learn, post, participate. Learn to be someone who is respected for their opinion, humour, or something that gets you noticed, but do it for the right reasons.

I came here to learn. And learn I have. I was, despite my age, an infant when I came to this forum. The main reason I got anywhere is that I pretty quickly learned the magic: Watch, and Ask.

When I totally had no clue, I'd search the forum and read. And read, and then read some more. Then when I thought I knew something, I'd open my mouth and prove I was wrong. But I caught the attention of some of the people here who did know, and were not averse to helping a new guy as long as I wasn't being a dick. Then I really started learning, and got to the point, organically, where I was the guy helping newbies.

No matter how good you are, or how good you get, at one point you were a rank newbie. In 2009, we all were. If you're just here for a quick buck, you won't be here long. If you're here to learn some really interesting things from a wide array of people in all walks of life throughout the world, the rank and merit will come and you won't notice, or care, because you'll be too busy interacting with a very eclectic and interesting group of people. And a large number of assholes. The signal to noise ratio can be very high here...

But that's true in life, isn't it?

EDIT: Typos. I hate laptop keyboards!

So in order for me to get my merit up I have to wait until others give the smerit to me or at least hope that other memeber want to share some merit??? I'm lost.
Yes, you would have to attain 250 sMerits from other users for you to progress to hero member rank, users are most likely to give merit to the posts which are more constructive, useful and helpful to the community, maybe you can start working towards that direction.
Merits was deserves to the users who give knowledgeable information, but it not means that all people who gives suggestion or opinion are deserves to earned merit. Because sometimes their opinion is so shitty and not realistic. They were trying to makes false information to have a topic. I truly appreciate the merits system because now all users are equally. Because on the previous even users who have lack in quality they were reach the higher ranked even their post is nonsense and totally not helpful to others.
Yes I agree with that, but if you see the link below you can see that there's a lot of people are exchanging of merit to easily increase it up. Moreover they want to ranked up so easy that's why they do this.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/list-users-that-are-abusing-merit-system-2823221
Your right, but cheating to get some or a lot of merits was not allowed. Other than that this is so prohibited, I know one of this day those people who exchange merits for the sake of their ranking up will be punished by the moderator of this project.

I can share my experience. I exactly know what not to do if you want to earn a Merit now.
Do not write an article for beginners and newbies. They do not have a Merit that they can share. But this is not the main thing. They can be aggressive and evil. Really! I wrote about how to update Twitter Audit. They threatened me, wrote that my method does not work and called me a fraud. It was terrible. Thye was afraid that while they were cleaning the cookies in the browser, I would steal their private key  Huh Grin
Do not post your article on the day of the rank changing. In your topic will go to write meaningless posts. If you wrote an article with a soul, it will upset you.
And if you want to create a topic  think, maybe it's better to make it self-moderated.
But it's very good that the new system inspires the members of the forum to write articles and exchange experiences.
Do not repeat my mistakes!   Roll Eyes

Think of the reasons why you are not getting one while others got some. You have to be smart and active now to increase the probability.

who will merit a post that is just two lines of words but actually meaningful and solve a problem? what happens to such post that is short and precise and was helpful?  Huh

Actually, concise but helpful posts are even more likely to get merited because of the "tl;dr" types!  Grin

What is an sM though? sub-Merit? small-Merit? semi-Merit?

that question is why you shouldn't be given any merit.. It shows that you haven't even read the 1st post in this thread.

It was under a subtitle named "Trivia" Cheesy
And excuse me but I've read the 1st post and I knew about "half merit of what you get, you can send it", what I didn't notice was the naming.

I can see how somebody could be confused by the logical abbreviation sM for sMerit. Ergo, +1 sM = one sMerit sent.

Don't spend the +1 sM that my alter ego sent you all in one place, bud.

I appreciate the try for a better forum with less spam, I believe the BitcoinTalk team acted on our best interest, however I don't believe this is a good system.

Most people tend to be vocal about things they don't like (they will hit the ignore button, report others, demerit if it was possible) but they ain't that active when it comes to possitive actions and encouragement. It's sad but it's true for most.

Personally I don't have so much free time to spam sweet-talk and beg for merit, I'll just continue participate and see how this goes but I'll most likely be stuck in Jr. Member.

A fair example why this is not gonna work with fairness,
Fuck merit. Make mine -100. This is about the dumbest shit in order to rank up as paying to do so. Just a opinion. Like ASSHOLES, everyone has 1.
This guy has 11 merit and I don't have any?  Grin

There you go, you now have +1 sM. Enjoy.  Kiss

I wanted to send one to anakrea, tells me I don't have any spendable merit, guess I need more in order to share.
So I will continue writing good posts and sharing merit with helpful members. Cheers!

Yeah, you need to accrue two merits in order to have one smerit Smiley

I was actually joking about begging. If I understand it right, merit is earned by helping someone, making useful guides and providing quality information on the subject. For example, I will come back and give merit for helping me to anakrea and TMAN (even though he doesn't look like he needs it  Tongue ) For now I'm just grateful, I am sure this information you provided is useful for everyone, not just me.

changed my mind and gave you one, but I don't want any back. Just make sure your posts are useful or helpful or insightful

i see this merit pattern of growth in rank as an indirect way of stagnation, not allowing other members to also fully rank up,  because i have been reviewing it over and over in my mind Cheesy to see how effective it will be in terms of filtering and reducing bad post, what i could come up with is a very slow way  or if not impossible way of ranking up Sad,
