I think that there is one overlooked problem which needs to be addressed if we want forum quality to raise.
No.

What are the low quality farmers doing when they understand that chance of them ranking up is close to zero?
I believe that  they just could start farming more accounts in order to compensate for their inability to rank up, thus generating more sh*t post than ever.
You lack common sense and any understanding for incentives of any kind. Once they realize that they are unable to rank up, thus unable to progress, thus unable to earn, there is a near-zero incentive to continue doing what they're doing.

Otherwise there is no real way to prove or disprove my theory.
Your theory is fundamentally flawed. Empirical evidence is not needed to disprove it.

If they can rank up to Jr.Member who can still earn with signatures, they have motivation to farm more accounts thus generating more accounts.
If you can not see the logic in this, you are the one lacking common sense.

Well i guess it is still better if they only have 10 Jr. Members account rather than if they have 10 high rank accounts because they can rank up just because they posted shit. And you still missed out the trend now. For campaign, some manager already applied merit as a requirement, if they dont have it, they will get lower payment rate. So it will eventually discouraged people who is always finding an easy way to get money because things will be hard from now on. Luckily, based on my poll and data i gathered from my thread, there are some low rank members who is being positive with this merit point system.
You guys can check my infographic that i made from my thread in here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.29502964

I believe there is a fair number of new posters who still don't even know about the Merit system. They write crap posts everyday hoping for ranking up quickly. In a few weeks they will realize there is no hope for them and they will be gone. The forum is still hard to read now (especially "Bitcoin discussion") but we' should see the positive effects of the Merit system within a month.

In any case it would be interesting if we had access to forum registration data before merit system and after. Otherwise there is no real way to prove or disprove my theory.

What about me. Do you think I am somewhat an established members posting over 200+ post with some really quality (in my opinion) posts...

There are many more... I guess I can not because I am just a Jr. Member. https://prnt.sc/i9j68c

As an established member, you should also know where should you post content. This thread is not for applying to be a merit source. You need to open a new thread for this. Also, you need to quote posts of other members (not own as you did), which did not get enough merit points.

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.

Why people always forget this is a forum and place to communicate with other participants, but not a rank-obsessed rpg. Just try to leave behind all these badges and enjoy your time here.

PM me in 3 weeks please bud. Given you one for now as I think you have potential to level up and I am pretty sure you are not a pajeet farmer

We all are diehard bitcoin fans.  Does merit or ranks change that?  Does someone with 500 merit will  be more closely following the block chain principles than those with 100 merits?

We will  see in due course of time with matrix about spam controls on these threads and  what other communities think about bitcoin talk as whole ecosystem.

Not at all bud, but everyone who is legit deserves the right to earn like the rest of us buddy

For the past one hour, I've been checking the merit points sent and received by various members. To sum it up, it's more on a popularity contest. The more famous you are, the more merits you'll have.
You're forgetting why certain members are more popular than others. Usually, it's because they have something worthwhile to say, so of course they'll get more merits. An unknown newbie with something worthwhile to say will also receive merits, and they may even become popular, given time.

Sir are you saying merit points are given based on popularity, I saw it's about quality posting (not spaming ) , The general query (content)of strong people or accounts are merited and commended , whatever that post is good or not. But strong post from weak or new accounts remain unmerited. Please check you have got merit for a simple comment. How we could more visible ? I think a day will come when weaker account will have to beg for 1merit point.

Strong people should be more generous to give merit to weaker. They are tending to give merit to receive merit. Again I hope I don't have to buy merit for level up. And I will not buy. Please be more generous to give merit otherwise Rich will be more richer and poor will be more poorer.

Instead of posting you 100% agree, you should have given me 100 merit.
You can only give 50 merit to a user in a 30 day window.
Unless they have an alt account, they cannot give you 100 merit (right now).

Press your middle mouse button when trying to open a link to open it in a new window. Problem solved. Now you should have given me 200 merit.
Same problem, 4 alt accounts?

Dear sir we should be more generous to give merit , strong account gives merit to another strong account. I have tried to post quality content 3 times which consume 1 day (research included) , people are getting merit with small post , may be for visibility. But weak account post tends to be less visible to those people having sMerit.  Now I am suffering to get 1 merit point , if I understand that process may be I will try in that way , give me your suggestion.

Yes,  I have noticed this too. But I guess we will have to go though this since we were not very active on bitcoin talk. The merit system does deter spam on the forum which is a much greater problem to deal with than us getting our ranks up.

because this forum is filled by spammers/botters that live with bitcointalk incomes.
this is the huge problem.
but we can't beat them with Merit system.
So what solution do you propose?

i like the KYC idea so youre bound to one account, no multiple accounts
and activity only raises if you do a certain number of characters typing per week

Seriously? This would cause far more crying from people than a merit system. Who the hell is going to send in personal documents just to be able to post on a message board? This board isn't a financial institution and isn't going to apply strict KYC laws just so people can have an account here. Besides, how strict would the verification be? People will just offer services for forged documents and it's very easy to just photoshop the details and people already pop up from time to time offering such services.

so what i just post and try to help posters every single day and hope i get 1 merit a day max.... nice that 150 merit now will take 3-8 months if i try every single day on this forum..... when i was literally 2 weeks away lol

You are the type of poster the merit system is designed to prohibit. Just look at the quality of your posts before the merit system was introduced. All trash posts that you would easily get paid for and can rank up over time just by bothering to log in to post whatever you could be bothered to do. People shouldn't be allowed to join this forum with as many accounts as they like, post utter rubbish and get paid for it and this mentality has to chnage.

After i run my thread about "How Do You Feel About Merit System?" for 2 weeks up till now, i got my data to make some infographic and statistic, thanks to all the voters.
And i made some abbreviation for MERIT, LOL.

I make this statistic because i just want to know about the feelings of member, not for taking down the merit system, in fact, i love the system.
In the yellow box, i highlight things that is crucial after merit system applied, which are :
1. Feelings' of the members of this forum
2. Will this system make someone who is new give up on the forum (can be read as does people still want to join bct forum after there is a merit system)

Feel free to discuss here if you guys want , and if you want to vote again, i will unlock my vote so you guys can vote again, you can find my thread here (or if you want to discuss it there) :

Most people here are influenced by a large sum of money that's why the old forum, MILLIONS to, BILLIONS of dollars has been running here from the ALTCOIN sections, to the real world and vice versa. The higher you rank, the more money you will get into a campaign. And that's an elementary rule, sadly I rarely see someone replying to your comment, or I'm always having a weird feeling that they are always avoiding a conversation. Remember when they had a puzzle here, and everyone is enjoying the game, some are scratching their head and some are enjoying the ride, some are doing snacks and everyone is happy?

And this line: "Just try to leave behind all these badges and enjoy your time here." makes me happy that there are still someone who are thinking this way.

Great example of a garbage shitpost that I would've tagged only a couple of weeks ago.  And now I don't have to do it because the merit system is in place, which almost ensures that idiots who can't speak a lick of English won't advance here on bitcointalk.  It's deliciously satisfying, and I must say it is still bringing a smile to my face.

Are you fucked?  Yes.  And I would also suggest that if that's how you view things, you're here for all the wrong reasons.  If you came to bitcointalk because you enjoyed posting--and reading posts--the difficulty of getting merit points wouldn't bother you in the least.  The only people it bothers are the gibbering ape-beings who are here to crank out shitposts as fast as they can, with absolutely zero thought involved in their creation (see above post by Godwans).

There are going to be people who buy merit, and those who trade it between alt accounts, but overall I think it's going to slow down the process of account farming and dis-incentivize shitposting to a large degree.  I can already see the fruits of the system being picked.

That would be some irony right there lol.. the scammers/spammers/trolls etc. who the Merit system is designed to punish find ways to cheat the system and level up. While the legit members who the Merit system is designed to aid get next to no Merit due to scarcity and lack of desire to Merit.

It may work out this way, but who knows.. is early days lol

Well, so far all the posts I've read that had me thinking 'fuck me, that's worthless shit and I resent having my time and pixels squandered' were all written by people with no fresh merit.

I think it's going to do the job very well once it's a bit slicker.

This new protocol of Merit system is really great in order to gain good quality post and to control spammers nor scammers or unwanted activities here in the forum!
But i guess, this can be simply be bypassed by trading such as buying or by any means of irresistible offers made in a private way in or outside the forum imo!

I dont know way to get more merit?? _anyone help me!!

You young man are a pajeet shitposter.. anyone giving you merit will be accused of merit trading. If I were you I would go and invest some time and money in English lessons and come back in 6 months..

This system was implemented to stop the likes of you levelling up, so either invest time, effort and money in improving your language skills or fuck off to bitcoin.com
