I have 10 merits and I thought I could give out five. Yesterday I gave out one and today was going to give out one more but when I tried it said "You do not have enough sendable merit".  So I'm really confused about how much I'm allowed to send. Could I have sent five yesterday instead of one? I thought we could send half the total merits we held.

At any rate I think the merit system is AWESOME and should bring higher quality post to the forums. Genius idea!  Smiley

There are many actually and one of which is about the penalty in selling merits. I guess i'll just have to follow theymos posts for this. Thanks for the thought though

The merit sources are prohibited from selling merit. They would presumably be either just removed as sources or be banned.
For everyone else, I would imagine it would attract negative trust.

Merit based ranking is always advisable instead of just how long someone spend time on forum; but the way merit based points will be issued  is important.  Their has to be governance and moderator who acts as a part of governance team has to be interacting with all forum member.   Thanks Team.

Anyone struggling at Sr Member Almost close to becoming a hero member and yet not getting merit? Dam if daily life struggle wasn't enough, this is actually tougher than it seems😂
I am too far to become sr. member but i feel you mate, this new feature will gives you delay to rank up if you did not meet the merit requirements for hero member but mate don't lose hope this would be a big challenge to all of us to make much constructive post and make us more value member of this forum.
And accept this challenge with all your heart and make merit is your inspiration for your every post.

Also if someone has multiple accounts, he may somewhat increase his points by sending them back and forth.
I know this is limited, but still possible.
This guy tested it yesterday

I know this might have been asked several times, but how can this be prevented? Knowing how important the merits would be when ranking up, people might be encouraged to abuse sending merits through their other accounts or even  make alt accounts just to get merits. It would be hard to keep track of this since you have to dig deep to prove that what they're doing is breaking forum rules.

At the moment it's simple to check the top-merited users of all-time, or the recent top-merited users using these tools theymos provided. There aren't many accounts sent high amounts of merit yet.

This makes it harder to rank up especially for a newbie acct like mine.  I am not opposed to this it Looks like a pretty good system if your work your way up through it.   The only thing I don't like is those with the current higher ranking were automatically given the merit.  Most of those deserve it but I have seen more than a few who do not...  So is the merit ranking not false to start with as those people really didn't earn that merit?   Why not start everyone off on the same merit level and let that be another indicator that we the users can look at and help us decide whether there posts are likely accurate or not?  or trustworthy and relevant?

If I look at someone's merit I will never know if they actually earned it or not.  So this does not help me at all as an indicator now that the merit was just given out.   I could say if this person joined after the merit system was put into place this would be a good indicator but anyone who joined before this it has zero reference.  So now we have to look up the date a member has joined to verify whether merit matters or not?  Seems like this needs to be thought out a little more.

The post says merit should be given only if earned.  But it was given based on membership status not earned.

Like I said above I suggest starting everyone off with the same merit and let the users decide who the merit should go to based on the factors you listed.   I'm good with keeping this part of the system to level up.  Would have to keep everyone's current rank as we would not want to take a hero or legendary back to a member account.

I would suggest that all accounts be reset to the status of a beginner, leave only admins, and those who are really worthy of receiving rewards quickly become moderators or legendary

This is actually the biggest problem with this system. Why should users reward someone else if they could give at least  sum(1/(4x)) points to themself, using only one alt account. Yeah people are greedy you know....

This is why I am for a system the other way round using a spam score (Like I mentioned here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.27357532). I gues this would have some drawbacks too, though.

I like this new ranking requirement.  It helps cleans up the forum.  I think many people will be stuck at Full Member rank permanently due to this change.

This is so true!!
Should I be worried.. lol ..  Grin

I love the idea, apart from the point that people who are really close to their next rank now need to earn a lot of merit before doing so. This makes the person "A New Full Member" equal to "A Full Member who was about to become Sr. Member in a week or two", but again, since we still have the activity combination along with merit system, it will become fair in sometime.
Cheers!

it seems to me that those who have a minus in the level of trust now actively begin to sell their services, and those who really deserve it and will remain aloof and without rewards
I'm sorry this forum

it is good , but it sucks for Full Members like me who are so close to Senior Member and dont just post junk... but oh well i guess its best for the community, just wondering how long it will take to get 250 merit when ill probably get 1 merit point for like 10 good replies of help......
I never thought you would earned any merit for your posts (i don't see any reason for that).
Your merit point atm is 112. It means that's 138 left for you and you must make around 1380 quality posts before you ranked up to Sr.member (assuming you'd earned 1 merit for 10 contructive posts)
 Goodluck
