I think this merit system is quite unsustainable and I'm 100% sure I'll NEVER get any Merit point with this post. This will prove my theory is totally legit.

Probably not, but you will get on ignore lists. Smiley

So there's a counter for earned merits in our profile, hope a counter for sMerits would be added too, instead of trying to send,  then an error popping up that you don't have enough sMerits.  It will save effort and time most especially on days when we have bad internet that one click take minutes to load

Good point, negged.

Jokes aside, this is literally the kind of posts that the new system kinds of promotes, from posts spamming we get posts containing "subtle" bd+sM content

Did I miss something because that seems like the system of 600k merit points will dwindle and end pretty quickly (assuming 50% always leaves the system). Do the merit-sources keep getting new merit points or was it a one off type deal?

Many people who may still not understand about merit, in fact we do not yet feel what will be produced. However I am sure it will be very useful. Sometimes a change to a better one has to sacrifice some things. Good job team, hope this merit can change forums for the better. Now everyone has an opinion and will also have an increasing role.

Without reading through literally everything, will our merit points be replenished at any point after we send them or can you only gain them from others for useful posts?
In fact, as mentioned several times in previous threads. By sending sendable merits (sMerits) to others, you will lose only sMerits, which non-sense for yourself. It has no meaning in ranking your level up. Only Merits will help you to be upgraded to higher level. So feel free to send your sMerits to others for good posts. Additionally, when others send you Merits, your sMerits will increase too. Please give me merits if you think that my post is helpful. I almost upgraded to Member in the next few days, but now I have to collect 10 merits to reach the target. So sad. Thanks ^^

So sad right now, that means that someone who has been pretty active in the past but have not gotten legendary will take forever to reach legendary now. Damn, if only I was more active before haha. Then again, legendary had no correlation with credibility, so I'm fine with that too haha.

Ultimately it's a good way to filter out the spam I guess 😂 .

Seriously? Explain to me exactly how this new sM thingy stops nefarious actors from coming here and registering, then posting to their heart's content not caring less if they move up in rank or not. Yes, it may slow them down a tad per account, but thanks to now needing more accounts to advance their cause, whatever their cause may be, more accounts they will create. WAIT! Hey, maybe that the plan - to see how quickly this forum can reach the 2M users milestone. Hmmmmmmmmmm!

Don't new accounts start at merit 0? Every new account gives u 0 merit, no point in spamming new accounts ain't it?
Nothing stops nefarious actors, even on pain of death, a malicious actor will stop at no means to get his wish performed.

Good guys will always play catch up to the bad ones in infosec.

Honestly after some tinkering in my filter script, I haven't seen as much spam as before, after all, if I can't see them, others can't too right? 😉

thanks to the moderators and administrators for "helping and removing my posts" and for helping me with my blocked account, the entire administration does not care about ordinary users, we only interfere with them, but in real help - do not wait, die faster than help comes to you from the local administration. THANK YOU VERY HUGE FOR YOUR SERVICE
you can add or subtract messages, delete this message, block this account, you can not use it for help, you still will not help, but just ignore it

I would agree.

At the current time, an "ordinary" user is one that shitposts for personal financial gain.  They do not care about the forum at all, so why should we care about them?

The Merit system will allow everyone to see those users that are "extraordinary" in actually caring about, and discussing bitcoin.

Seeing as Theymos and the rest of the moderation team are overworked, doesn't it make sense they spend their time dealing with those extraordinary users instead of the run-of-the-mill, dime-a-dozen, ordinary user?

Ok, but members like me, that are not here for the signature bonuses, but don't make state of the art articles, will be discriminated. I'm not extraordinary, and i don't want to be stuck waiting for someone to merit my posts. I want to help the community and learn from it at the same time, but from now on, will the community spend time thanking me for doing it?

It's all in the OP. There is no replenishment unless you're one of the 30-ish "merit sources".

IMPORTANT EDIT: When giving that sM to V86, a new tab opened up. Isn't that a security risk for this forum?

I think it's only an issue with user-generated links that can open malicious content. Same site links should be fine.

Theymos, thank you for making the +Merit link open in a new window.

Hopefully it does not introduce any security issues, and I believe it will make people use the system more.

Smiley

A jSON popup or similar would be much better though

But I guess that's too much to ask? Maybe on the next forum SW to be implemented next year  Grin

honestly, this makes me very sad, even if i understand why this merit system is implemented for.

i am like 3-4 weeks away from my sr.member rank and this fucks me really up Sad

i'm sad, angry and shocked together X_x". now i have to collect like 150 merits in a short time but how Oo", i dont think that people will freely start to like everything i post... since humans are not generous, infact, they can be very harsh to others, being anonymous on the internet...

Although i agree with the merit system, i also agree with you.

What if the system can give merits by some sort of algorithm? Or the moderators give them to people who deserved them? If it's their job to look out for the sections of the forum to check if everything is alright, which means they have to read everything (in theory), they could also give merit to those who are working for the community.

I'm also running for Full Member, not for the money per se, but for airdrops and others alike, and to think that i need 90 merits to achieve that... wow.

Again, im in favor, but i see tons of members/users to quit because the effort does not pay.

PS - Also, it will not prevent the creation os new accounts to flood the system with announcements. It will only drop the number os stupid posts.

I have a thought that may help moderators kill off spamming shill accounts. If a N00b account does not make a certain ratio of merit to post within a probationary period then a mod can be notified to do a quick check on that accounts probability of being a bot. Smiley

Sorry if this has been recommended but there is no way any sane person would catch up on this thread! Smiley
