Huh? I didn't try to lecture/play the sjw.

TBH, I didn't see anything wrong with my post. I just thought that you missed the part where I discussed the "119 or 120 merit sources" with iasenko. Sorry if it offended you.

Might've overreacted here. Sorry for all this. Will delete my posts. No added value anyway Wink

Sorry the bit where you were saying "i read somewhere" was misleading.
That's because you only read my post without seeing the whole context. Start from the beginning of the conversation and never post before reading the full story.

And the 3rd is Daniel91
Hmm... He's red tagged for me due to my customized trust list. So, can someone confirm it was just those 3 and not 4 (from 119)?

IIRC, there was 120 merit sources before. So, theymos added 3 new sources.

I think they were 119 after QA was removed from the merit source community. So there are 4 new ones. I would love to know who are the new ones. I guess pugman is one of them.
I read somewhere that there was 120, but I can't find the post anymore.

We know who are 2 of the new ones: ETFbitcoin and o_e_l_e_o

There are 3 more now.

Here is the link you are looking for :

I know. I literally said that in the post above mine.

What I meant is that we know 2 of those 3. Which are the users I linked above.

More interestingly, we have seen the new All-Time-Low of intraday merits on 24Dec 2018, GMT time, with 312 merits distributed during the day (the day with id #335 in LoyceV's original dataset).

By saying 'normal range', I meant those recent weeks have not stood beyond the range from Q1 - 1.5*IQR and Q3 + 1.5*IQR, or not above 6652 nor below 2080. If you have interest in my analysis, please visit my topic for full details.
Time Series Plot

Basic statistics
Both mean and median of the truncated data have decreased a little bit than figures of truncated dataset from 24/1/2018 to 02/12/2018.
The mean decreased from 4864 to 4785, whilst the median fell from 4388 to 4309.

Potential outliers
IQR = | Q1 - Q3 | = | 4937 - 3794 | = 1143.
1.5*IQR = 1143 * 1.5 = 1714.5
Q1 - 1.5 IQR = 3794 - 1714.5 = 2079.5 ~ 2080.
Q3 + 1.5 IQR = 4937 + 1714.5 = 6651.5 ~ 6652.
< ... >
11 weeks are potential outliers in total (results shown below), and none of them occured in the recent weeks.  Grin

I am now looking for a way to get merits and looking for people who have done it, one way is to give an outstanding post like a study or catching scam ICO, these are two ways to get merit in my opinion.

Your post or reply does not have to be outstanding inorder to get merits. Other members are more concerned with your level of contributions amd post history.

If a shit poster makes a one off pots which is quality, they're less likely to get merits due to their post history, other members believe they would give back to spamming for signature campaigns.

It's just discouraging to not only for my effort to go un-merited, but to also see many random posts getting highly merited (like the one I've mentioned here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.48484477)
You're probably better off not comparing yourself to obvious merit abuse.

If I interpret this post from theymos slightly out of context:
~ if they have decent posts, by all means, give them the 250 or 500 merit that they need to rank-up.
You're not a spammer, you engage in decent conversation, and you use the forum as a forum instead of an ATM. I think you deserve the Merit needed to rank up.

I'm posting this here as a reference in case someone wonders/questions why I went on a meriting spree Smiley
Note: sending Merit doesn't necessarily mean I agree with a post.

On the contrary merits should not be giving out just cause a user agrees with the post, but it's relevance and quality.
This only comes into the context when discussion forum politics.
On the general discussion board. It's not opinions which are posted but relevant, factual discussion about cryptocurrency.

I feel like I'll be stuck forever in a few merits before Full Member.
It depends on your post quality after all. Why do you think you are stuck in while you are posting in altcoin ann? For your info, most of the people who care about the forum, don't like the altcoin discussion garbage mostly. I personally rarely visit altcoin boards just because I don't find anything worthy. I believe most of the merit sources also don't visit those boards. I can remember only once I had seen suchmoon to give merit someone in altcoin boards.
You may post quality posts on that board but people don't see those because of the garbage. Therefore, possibility of getting merit from that board is near zero. I have seen you to post on other board too but I didn't find one to spend a merit there.

I know most of the posts there are made of bots and/or immature people, resulting in the garbage you're saying. But since I'm around the crypto-space for about 1.5 years I don't think I have anything special to offer in the Bitcoin forum where many veterans are gathered. I prefer to talk about general price analysis and about the few altcoins I've researched, providing feedback whenever I can.

It's just discouraging to not only for my effort to go un-merited, but to also see many random posts getting highly merited (like the one I've mentioned here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.48484477)

You're right. I'm just a little bounty hunter! In your eyes is a garbage maker! But I'm trying to learn the rules here!
Do all the bounty you want. But keep your spam in your area (Altcoin Board) and don't complain about not getting any merit. Smiley
