I welcome this new merit and rank requirements. It will improve quality posts but abuse will be in the same line. Many Newbies will try to beg 1 merit even with purchasing merit.

Has this recently been updated? I am pretty sure I needed 10 for jr. Rank if I am correct, did they decrease the merit requirements?

Yes, there are a few 50 TXs that have been awarded on the list. Every time I see one of those now days, it reminds me of the 500 € bank notes: you never really get to see them on street level, and they are often used for dodgy reasons … follow the money trail ...

Sadly, in my opinion, this is a pumped result.
On this week a lot of accounts had 1 merit to rank up from sources, friends and abusers. Next week the number it will go down around 5k.
1 merit is fine for Junior. A small ask for the reward of moving up a rank, but it's not sufficient to get a signature and start earning here. We should try ten merit and becoming a Member before you get a sign and see how that goes. I think it would help enormously, but we could keep upping the requirement over time if it's not helping much. I'd really like to see how many users could get 100 merit before they can start earning here though. That would really sort the wheat from the chaff and the shitposters from the great posters. Only those who have contributed something significant here would be able to earn then and the forum would be a much better place for it.

It's possible that I'll be able to hit 100 after exactly one year, starting from 0.I was never a shitposter but I remember that when I first found out about the Merit system (I was a newbie when it was introduced) for the first few months I was thinking how I'd make my posts better to earn merits. Later on I stopped thinking about the merits and just posted whenever I had some free time to surf the forums, but the principals had stayed... that way of posting got me merits slowly but thanks to the last changes I feel the speed of earning is higher.
My advice to legit members is to focus on threads with subjects they are familiar with and do their best to give constructive and clear answers to people who ask questions there.

Participate in discussions over the last time observed that the quality of messages from newcomers markedly increased.Many newcomers received their first merit smart and correct thoughts. which is definitely the benefit of innovation.

More merits started to be given out thanks to new Merit Sources, as an example I got 30 merits just in September! 20 or 18 of them was after more merit sources were added, so at least this change seems to have helped to put some fuel on the engine! Previous data provided by DdmrDdmr showed that giving merit had slowed down dramatically.
The other change which you mentioned (Jr. Members needing 1 merit) was probably too low of an entry point and if you think of how many newbies started to beg (in a spam-y way) I'm not sure there was a big change, still it was on the right track I believe.
One of the good instant effects of new rank requirements which need 1 merit for Junior member rank is:

The new requirements boosted the pace of merit exchange, and 1 merit won't solve any problem.
Of course, we all need real data to go to conclusion, but this one is what I imagine on short-term effects of new rank requirements.

It is extremely easy to get 1 merit and/ or buy it. I don't think anyone can go to any judgement on only 1 merit point, such as merit exchange, merit abusement. It does not enough to go to judgement.

You got merit when the merit system was automatic. You didn't get any merit from anyone on your posts. For this you got only 5 spendable merits. To get spendable merits try to make quality posts and if you're expert on something you can share your knowledge which will bring you merits. But you need to get minimum 2 merits. For every Merit you receive you will have 0.5 spendable merit to reward posts as you see fit. So when you get 2 merit you will get 1 spendable merit.. Those user who have sMerit and don't send me.... How I upgrade my rank.!
