I am a thread surfer and I see that there is no matter in any concrete board for Merit, the point is in comments. But as I red in some merit discussion threads this Merits have giving "on leg and right", I mean no matter of the post's quality in some cases. On local boards already appeared suggestions about merit selling and I suppose in sooner time it will become a mainstream like with likes on FB or other social networks when someone asks "please, merit my post Kiss ".

My simple look about Merit, it is a beautiful thing for Legend, Hero member and Mod because Merit make them more powerful, and Merit is a nightmare for Member and lower rank because it's really hard now now to reach level up.

The altcoin section, from what I've seen, has some of the most degenerate shitposters known to man--very close to the gambling section, and I'm not sure who'd take home the trophy if they wrestled.
There are good posts in the Altcoin section, but they're very hard to find amongst millions of useless posts.
I've merited at least three.

Once the hundreds of thousands of shitposters finally leave the forum, it will be so much easier to identify and award a good post - won't be digging through as much garbage.

There will be no reason for them to be here before too long, if they can’t rank up then no signature campaign & subsequent pay for them, I presume they’ll leave then.

(I’m aware that I’m in a sig campaign but pretty sure my post quality is half decent).

It also seems to me that hardly any merit is given to less senior members, at least I haven’t received any. I really try not spam with my posts and to give well reasoned opinions in the best English that I am capable of. However, it seems that none of this is helping when it comes to gaining merit. I feel that this is a system that discriminates against new users as they will have to fight for the attention of senior users that can award you with merit. Of course, I do understand that the forum needs some form of protection against spam, but I am not sure if this is the best solution.

This is precisely why you need to enforce the Merit system there. Rewarding quality posters and commenters would force users to improve their writing quality and make the Altcoin section less of a "shitposting" space .

Members can be seen trying to improve their posts hoping that they can receive merit. A day after merit system's debut, everyone reacted accordingly, there are people who supported the system and of course there are people who oppose it. Everyone are discussing about the system and some are even making infographics. Merits we're thrown left and right. Few days past people tried to find a loophole to gain merits (trading merits, buying accounts, etc.). And posts are getting redundant, merits are still being circulated. Almost a week has passed and almost all the merits are being gifted to [ANN] threads. I don't think if anyone's feeling this but, receiving merit is getting harder day by day. I don't see this as a negative thing. Instead, i see this as a challenge to improve my self as well as the forum and that everyone needs to accept it.

Precisely my observation as well  Smiley Smiley
Had posted about this a couple of days back. There seems to be an asymmetry. May be due to the fact that there's heavy post flooding over there and quality posts often get lost in the crowd.

Well, I guess the best option is to stay active in sub-forums such as this one.

Is it the same picture in other sections? And if so, how do we raise more awareness about it?

If you posted threads like these in other boards you'd start to raise more awareness about the merit system. You should start a thread that lists merit-worthy posts or threads so people can start spending and others can begin receiving. Of course the threads you highlight need to be more than ICO announcement threads, all of those are rubbish!

If you want your sub-community to get involved, you should ask them to get involved!

My merits have been earned in the original Merit thread in the Meta forum. Those are a fraction of my posts, and still count for 100% of merits recieved.,

It's ironic that the commencement of the merit system has created more spam in the Meta board from people talking endlessly, and repeatedly about merit. But good on you for getting something out of it.

Merit system is a really good system to encourage people to do meaningful discussion within the community.
We should be discussing the pros and cons of projects we are supporting instead of too much shilling and fud.

Grin Would love to have some of those merits from you guys! Tongue

Have not gotten any yet.
Well, keep trying.

I still don't know why merit points can't be earned naturally in the local boards, where many users have much, much greater proficiency with whatever language their board uses.  If your vocabulary and knowledge of how to use English is seriously limited, you're going to have a very difficult time getting people to sprinkle some merit points on your posts.  Best to write some pure gold in a language that you know.

Having said that, I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of users are just plain dumb in any language.  And lazy, too.

I know it's a bit quick to draw any conclusions. However, in the altcoin section where I reside the most, next to no merit is being given or recieved. Is it the same picture in other sections? And if so, how do we raise more awareness about it?

Geez - in just a few days you have racked up over a dozen merit.  What are you complaining about?  :/

My merits have been earned in the original Merit thread in the Meta forum. Those are a fraction of my posts, and still count for 100% of merits recieved. I am grateful for the those recieved, and the intention of this thread is not to put focus on myself, but to put focus on the lack of merits given in general in the altcoin section. Not everyone is as fortunate, skilled, well hung and handsome as me.

I will encourage you to explore the forum. Join discussions in other sections of the forum and not restrict yourself to altcoins only. How then can you tell people about bitcointalk.org if you are only in altcoins?

Yeah, I think it has yet to percolate to the altcoin sections. Hopefully it does, but perhaps an upside to this slow start is the potential decrease of empty coin shilling.
