This is a very detailed analysis of the inner workings of the merit system. It's a reward system for quality posts. It's actually worth it when one is rewarded for their effort to make an impact in a community where one belongs.

You own the pen
You nailed it bro, like an annoying commercial on TV when people see it they quickly change the channel. I remember the Ariel 7.50 commercial on our country it's so annoying.

Good to see that finally you have realised the benefits. From your post history, I have not seen anything yet until now. Keep up the good work, you will be respected.

After starting out in the crypto scene I joined some Facebook groups, other Forums, Telegram groups etc. And everywhere HUNDREDS of people are trying to sell you ICOs, CFDs, Blogs, Newsletters... I could go on! Everywhere you go, you run into a huge hurricane of SUPERBAD advertising. With one exception: Bitcointalk.

I feel like in the crypto scene most people want to be heard because of the wrong reasons. This is not their fault, it is as usual the underlying system.

In cryptocurrency space, companies are super modern, often highly efficient. This also means outsourcing your marketing to affiliate marketers or build up a multi level marketing, to save a lot of money while thousands of users work for a share of profit. There is only one problem: If too many do it, it creates a toxic dust of advertising, which absolutely no one wants to see (Just look at your Facebook feed UGH! That's why everyone stops using it).

A good salesman will first ask you what you need, and then he will try to solve your problem with his product. A good salesman will built up a reputation as a good problem solver and will be a valuable guest in your house. Good marketing tries to do the same, but often fails as it is not a two street conversation. Which means no one likes it, as most of the time it is irrelevant for the user, making the platform you see the ad on less valuable for you. And this is exactly why the Merit system is so important:

- There is incentive for people to make useful posts. No spamming, no link posting in every thread, no sign up for newsletters.
- By this they actually need to think about what might have value for other forum members.
- In the end they will become better posters, and an addition to useful discussions.
- People with short-term profits in mind will be turned away due to long progression to higher ranks.
- Both cases add value to the bitcointalk.
- Ironically this will make it worth more again to advertise here  Grin

Sorry for the wall of text, but I felt like I had to explain this train of thought after seeing people not agreeing with the system. For my part, I feel like it is super important for the future success of the forum.

Best regards
