As soon as there's a pool you can mine with the equihash miners like claymore on windows.  The votecoin people intend to build a pool once their ICO reaches a certain benchmark.  You could buy into the ICO to help move it towards the mark.

actually @coldstorage it seems that i'm facing some problems with payouts ... not sure what exactly it is ...

i started a thread here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/vot-temp-pool-status-2175113 (so i don't hijack this thread here) with what i will try to do to make the correct payouts to everyone who came in and mined!

Thanks for putting that up megacrypto, even if just for a little while.  I for one am happy to pay fees if you want to put it back up sometime.  I'll probably stop mining if enough people get on though, I've got very little hashpower to offer, just trying to get some before I drown in all the gpu rig sol/s.

@ sp999, I might recommend you start with Zcash if you're interested in altcoins like this one, hush, zen and others.  All are forked off zcash's code, and zcash has pretty good documentation on setup.  So if you can set that one up, you'll find the others very familiar.

Why is the block reward 100 VOT?

Is there a founder's fee?

ok ... im opening my test pool for the night for anyone who wants to try it out ... its setup with 0% fees ... but its just for testing now ... if you mine and a block is found i will keep it running until miners get paid their coins

// example:
miner --server megacrypto.servebeer.com --port 19834 --user t1RwCz5gd5iPt7JeqB7DGNBegu2ULE7wRoT.rig1 --pass x

EDIT:

Stopping it now (0:00 UTC) due to problems with payout engine, but will leave the pool's core running to process any pending coins payments

closing the stratum port will not allow any miners to connect ... to clarify that point

Since the introduction of the (unofficial and unsupported) testing pool, hashrate raised from 1000 Sol/s to 14 000 Sol/s. This increased the difficulty required to mine new blocks, but the testing pool is currently offline, so the remaining miners are still trying to find a block at the speed around 800Sol/s only.

This should stabilise hopefully in few hours.

yep, linode.com is a hosting service, I can choose to use an Ubuntu machine for sure.

then you need a machine with ubuntu 16.04 on it and some like 40gb of storage and 4GB RAM (pool needs some memory to pay mined coins) and thats it Smiley

once you get the OS running you need to:

- set which coins you want to run on your pool
- download their wallets and sync them
- setup znomp and configure it for the coins you wan to run

and that i can do!

I'm thinking on setting a pool in a linode host. Any suggestions on the machine specs? do you have a step-by-step guide?

i forgot to mention ... i can help out on ubuntu 16 .... haven't tried it on other distro's!

is linode debian based? if so, then maybe it will work!

if anyone wants to setup a pool I could help getting Znomp running for them ( for a small fee )  ... I'm testing VOT on znomp right now and just mined the first block .... waiting for the payout

if you want to check it out:

http://megacrypto.servebeer.com:8186

this will only show you the website but you wont be able to mine (don't have the mining ports open for public)

I'm interested!

sure thing ... what do you need to do ... actually the same build will work for ZEC / ZCL /KMD / HUSH  and now VOT !!
