If you need quiet the Avalon 4.1 is the leader there, noting is really close to it on power and sound. Other like phil suggested a modded S3 can be underclocked and with different fans run quieter then it was.

I personally suggest staying with air (fan's) vs watercooling on starting mining.

There have been some good suggestions in this thread. I would avoid Bitcrane. Yes they look cool, but just are pretty dated. And they never had a big following.

Look into some of the other miners mentioned.

I found a T-110 on eBay but it is not the "S" version though. I will keep looking. It may not be the best but it appears that it will meet most of my requirements. I hope they are durable.

For "winter use only electric sorta-portable heater" usage, any miner will work.

the avalon 4.1 is the best at this ----- this will do 800gh at 425 watts really quiet but it is costly and hard to find plus it needs a rasp pi

next is the s-3 ---- this will do 400gh at 300-320 watts and with 1 fan mod on the pull end is pretty quiet. if you are handy with resistor solder this can be made to to do 300 gh at 180 watts.

Since you need a space heater either of the two above will be better then just spending the money on heat with no hash.

I like the s-3 better since it is cheaper then the avalon 4.1

I would agree on Avalon 4.1 they are amazing machines. They pack a punch at a very very quiet sound. People really need to hear them in person to believe it.

You did hit the nail on the head is price. It is what stopped many from getting an Avalon 4.1 new or used. They just cost more. But the S5 and SP gear I don't see ever reaching the Avalon 4.1 level.

He asked for 1W per Gh @ around 1000W, with a big requirement for it to be quite so I gave him what he asked for. Only other options is Avalon 4.1 or if he wants to mess with water Antminer C1.

I would not say any will work. Some if you put it in room the sound will make it not very enjoyable.

I think some miners will be good for heating rooms. Others would require mods to be suitable, and some would never be quiet enough in my mind.

I'm not sure if I will even use the heat myself or if I will just leave in my mining area and enjoy them being out there come winter. Still deciding.

Very inefficient in my mind they were always built for looks. They looked great but never really had great sales.

As far as first miner S3 is not a bad one to learn with. philipma1957 is a great guy if you are needing one I suggest talking to him about his already modded one.

Buy the s-3 I can get them really quiet .

the bitcrane does like 1 watt per gh.

the s-3 does .75 -.80 watts per gh

if you clock the s-3 to 400gh it burns 300 watts and is pretty quiet.

If you live in the USA I CAN SELL YOU ONE with fan mods to be pretty quiet.

I am taking one off line this Thursday the 24th I could ship it to you if you are in the usa.

hopefully not far from New Jersey.

I've played with SP20 and Avalon 4.1. The 4.1 is just a lot more quiet. I have yet to see another fan miner compare to it, but it does cost more.

What is your electricity price OP? Before talking all these miners we should really see if you stand a chance at ROI.

I think then that you would be most comfortable with one or more the Compac stick miners. You'll was a USB hub assuming you want more than 10-12GH. Everything I've heard about the U# is that it is unreliable. You could also look at one of the Rbox 32GH miners used. Those are very reliable in my opinion, though they are more like 1W/GH. Very quiet, and need a PC to be attached via USB to a PC or Pi. I ran 3 on a Raspberry Pi for 6 months without intervention. They date from 2014.

In terms of the "small home mining" game, nothing recent will fit the bill. The s5 and new S7 are LOUD and hot.

Don't expect to make any money, maybe you break even over a long period of time.

The bitcrane is extremely inefficient by today's standards. Get an antminer S5 or an avalon 4.1 or spondoolies sp20 as the outgoing most recent technology but you'll almost certainly have to try and find a second hand one.

I'm open to large amounts of hashing power too. I will edit my post. I want something that can run in a living room without being super loud. The BitCrane T-110S looks promising. I have used the Antminer U3 with my PC and I found it to be really flaky and it would stop mining frequently. Another small miner attached to my PC would be acceptable if it was reliable.
