https://bit.ly/387FXHi lightning theory
That’s quite a huge list for the one thread.
“Something went wrong getting the username” would’ve been a great choice of username a bit too long for it all to fit on but great nonetheless. Grin

i wanted to make this joke but it might seem spammy so I’ll delete in 24 hours possibly

What I meant by this, was adding to your list, the users that were merited within these topics and because this might be difficult to format into a list I suggested transforming the data into a table. If there are too many users merited within a particular thread, then I was thinking the users that have garnered the most merit from that particular thread be listed alongside it.
That'll be a lot more data. I can do it per thread if there's a specific interest: It's a quick fix which used my existing scraped usernames (I accidentally used the list from June 18), and not all of them worked as expected, but you'll get the idea. With some more work I could add the amounts of Merit, and make a similar list for Merit senders in a thread. If interested, let me know. I could do this for all threads, and it shouldn't be too much work, but I'll end up with another 34 thousand output files Cheesy
The Wall Observer for instance: these users received Merit:

I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for.

What I meant by this, was adding to your list, the users that were merited within these topics and because this might be difficult to format into a list I suggested transforming the data into a table. If there are too many users merited within a particular thread, then I was thinking the users that have garnered the most merit from that particular thread be listed alongside it. There may be more conclusions to be drawn once we can more accurately and easily see who the merit is flowing to within these top merited threads. I hope that makes it more clear, it might be redundant, or not useful, but I thought it might be an interesting improvement.

As far as I know, I have all titles Smiley

I mean the Russian ones  like 217?
Or are you just leaving them with their html code?

I was just scrolling through the list and stumbled upon these, which seem like they're supposed to be links, but are not. I'm wondering if I am the ignoramus in the room, or if these are incorrectly formatted/placed? Little clarification would go a long way for me on this one.
It's the ignoramus (new word on my list!) Tongue I explained this in the post above yours. Anyway, I've fixed it by adding a space to [ list].
I've also marked deleted posts, and I finally found the time to create the external link in HTML. This fixes the Russian titles and icons.

Would it be too much work to throw it into a table, include the OP and the "merited users" or "top merited users" for each?
I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for.
Such table would be enormous too big for a thread. So yes, yes it would Grin.

@loyce if you want help I’ll go through and copy and paste the titles from the threads that still haven’t parsed so we’ll. I’d over to do it now but I have a lot to cram into the next three hours :’(.

Funny how the most-merited German thread is just the German version of WO.

[...] I'm sure that in addition to those who write regularly on there, thousands of others use it as an important source of news and memes in real-time. [...]

Can confirm, am using the WO thread as my go-to source for the hottest crypto memes in real-time.

That being said, I appreciate you following through with compiling the list; I saw you say that you were going to do so and I was waiting for it. I was curious if my sMerit thread would make it on the list, low-and-behold I've made it. #1 would seem like a great place to find a significant amount of the merit abuse occurring on the forum, outside of the obscure threads created for exactly that purpose. Would it be too much work to throw it into a table, include the OP and the "merited users" or "top merited users" for each?

There look to be errors at 168, 342 and 60 do you know the cuase of these loyce - are the blank bits deleted threads that haven't had their topic titles saved?
This explains it:
~ titles with "[ list]" and Russian titles don't work well on the list. This should look better when I upload it as HTML.

Quote
I also like how the russian language is compiled by your script, it's probably a similar difficulty to me to understand as russian (it actually makes it a little easier, do you have a unicode parser or a utf8 parser that can fix this - it looks like a classic error that I've seen before).... Grin
What you're seeing is just plain HTML. I copy the titles from the page source, then paste it into a new post on the forum. If I save the same code as HTML, your browser processes it and shows the normal Russian text again. I wanted to do this already, but got ill.

Titles would be a great addition to this. I got through about the first five and I was surprised to see the russian merit general topic so high...
Scraping the titles took more than half a day. It's done now, but titles with "[ list]" and Russian titles don't work well on the list. This should look better when I upload it as HTML.
I still have to exclude the deleted threads. Note that I also count all merit received by deleted posts in any thread.

It's sad to see some ANN threads on the list. Most people are abusing merits on ANN threads.
This list can probably be used as a first start to find abuse in those threads.

Quote
As always, I really appreciate your effort @LoyceV.
Thanks Cheesy This was really not much work (excluding the titles), it was not much more than counting Merit per thread from existing data.

Quote
BTW, the thread is quite long and I feel boring to have a look. Can you please split it or organize into code?
I've added numbers to keep track. I'm not sure how to make it less boring, the titles may help. The full list is going to be much longer.

Wall Observer is a forum on just one topic. It is impressive the amount of merit that is distributed in it, but perfectly understandable. I'm sure that in addition to those who write regularly on there, thousands of others use it as an important source of news and memes in real-time. There are other similar topics on other subjects, mining and alts, but none of them comes close to the importance and quality of the posts on WO.

Although I will agree that many of the posts in Wall Observer are merit worthy, I think one of the contributing factors was that back in March, some regular posters in Wall Observer were made merit sources. I'm not sure how many, but I was one. Here is the message that I got from Theymos when he made me a merit source.

(This PM is being sent to several people.)

Hello. You are now a merit source.

I will be periodically looking through the merit history of sources. If you send a lot of merit to good posts, then I will probably increase your source amount, while if you don't use your source much or use it irresponsibly, it may be reduced or removed. (But don't worry about it too much...)

I picked this batch of sources mainly by looking for ~Legendaries who were not wearing a paid signature. If you actually don't want to be a merit source, let me know.

Several of you post mainly in the Wall Observer thread. I'd encourage you to branch out a bit, such as into the Serious Discussion sections.

Note that there is a bug where whenever you spend your personal stash of sMerit, this also counts against your source for the next 30 days. So if you spent more sMerit in the last 30 days than the source merit I just assigned you, you will already see 0 source merit currently, though it will eventually recover. I will probably fix this at some point, but not soon.

Thanks!

The other contributing factor is that many people who post there were Legenday and were airdropped 500 merits each.

You should visit that thread regularly.  Grin. That thread is classic and most of the time discussions are funny as hell (sarcastic but hilarious hehehe). One thing though I noticed is that majority of people posting there doesn't carry any signature so probably that's the reason why people are giving merits as well.

Signatures are disabled (hidden) in WO.

I don't think I ever gave the wall observer thread enough of a look into before now also so maybe I shall try that (I think it was filled competely with spam at one point so it was pretty useless but it does have it's own moderator now so)...

Satoshi's topic also sadly not the highest either Sad
I think you are getting quite emotional here. I have respect for the man and I believe everyone does so. That doesn't mean this thread need to achieve the most merits. Yes, this thread must have a place on the history of cryptocurrency forever but it has less to do with the merit if you consider merit as theymos defined.
I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

He did build bitcoin core and the forum for which now bitcoin is mosty discussed. If that's not a high quality thing to do then what are we doing here (that thread is the first thread on here that has a link to the software satoshi made - assuming satoshi is the collective name for a group of people as I see it to be - the whitepaper references a 'we').

I don't think I ever gave the wall observer thread enough of a look into before now also so maybe I shall try that (I think it was filled competely with spam at one point so it was pretty useless but it does have it's own moderator now so)...

It's sad to see some ANN threads on the list. Most people are abusing merits on ANN threads. Anyway, Wall Observer proved that high-quality posts can get enough merit.

122. 137 Merit received in topic 2358637
On this topic, OP, Steepdev received a total of 60 merits where 50 merits from mellon and 10 from darkzorger
If we go through each ANN thread which got most merit, the scenario will be this kind and most of those are really abusing the system.

As always, I really appreciate your effort @LoyceV. BTW, the thread is quite long and I feel boring to have a look. Can you please split it or organize into code?

I think I have less understanding about merits. So, I gave up it here. Will do some more study on it.

Titles would be a great addition to this. I got through about the first five and I was surprised to see the russian merit general topic so high...

Satoshi's topic also sadly not the highest either Sad
