in 3 days  you may be able to get a rx 480 that does 24mh for 239 usd  using 100 watts

So it's worth getting the larger memory version?  Better resale, or better hashing performance?  That is the question I'm trying to answer...

auroracoin and jackpot coin were profitable only if you mined them before the breakout. After the breakout they were as profitable as everything else out there.

Unless your 750ti had some optimized code and made more then the average 280x.

that is the trick, the best profitable coin, is the one that you speculate on, with your hashrate, like recently, vipcoin, mined in early stage and went to 100 satoshi, huge profit, the same with ethereum at the beginning, continuos mining has no sense, because it does not last

I used to think like that.

No more.

Have your rig ready and wait for a hot one then bail .

Sell every coin fast .

You are a sure winner every time.

The trick is to have a rig or two not ten.

I have mined eth for a few days now every day I turned profit. As I just sold off the coins.

Even at 0.02 btc a eth coin there is still profit if you have the rigs on hand.

And if you have a rig and add a gpu purchased from Amazon , Newegg, Rakaten,Jet they all have a good return policy .

Now if you buy a mobo, a cpu, ram, psu, windows 7,  and gpus a return is not as easy.

I had a rig with a hd7970 cost = zero. I added a gpu for 180 I already got back 25 on it.

So if eth coins drops too much in the next week I will have to look for a new coin.

No coin shut the rig down keep my eyes open for a better one.

For the ones with cheap electricity , what is the best MHs per $ gpu today ?

well I do not understand your question.

since you ask today the 26th of june  and not the 29th of June

right now  you can find a r9 390 that will do 28 to 30mh  costing 250 after rebate

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150729&ignorebbr=1&cm_re=r9_390-_-14-150-729-_-Product

I owned this card it was a good card. it will use 260 watts to get the 30mh

in 3 days  you may be able to get a rx 480 that does 24mh for 239 usd  using 100 watts

Yeah but then you are talking about speculation. If you are good at it, why mine and not work for Wall Street instead.

There are like 100 coins released every week and maybe 10 or so are good runners.

Ive read through the thread now and am a bit gutted that my electricity is so expensive, combined with eth getting a lot harder to mine now or else i would have liked to have built a decent rig like this. If something new ends up coming out that i can justify splashing out on that many gpus then i might still but doesn't look like there's anything on the horizon.

what are you paying for power ? I pay .15 cents per watt in summer around .09 in winter and its still quite profitable to mine as long as eth is above $6 usd

I predict with this latest DAO fiasco and how the miners saved the value of eth by voting yes on the soft fork the Eth team will really look hard at expanding the mining period at least another year till they get tons of DAPPs out there
to test and validate that the platform can be fully trusted.

So don't expect mining to end for at least 18-24 months.  Plus the added inflation is helpful since it dilutes the premine a bit.

if POW is extended, investing ETH mining will be worthwhile.

But, you will need to run a lot of rigs to fully maximize your rewards.

RX480/470s are really good miners if it can hit the 20MHs-ish hash with 100watts or under per GPU, and your electricity is cheap.

right now if your power is 15 cents  per kwatt you can still be okay.

this will move towards needing 8 cents.  basically because with btc you kind of need 8 cent or less.

I don't see eth coin staying 2x better then btc on the power level from now on.

I should do a caveat  btc has a ½ ing due very soon  so that can muck up all calculations for profit of both coins.

Does ETH work better with AMD cards or with Nvidia, or is it close to equal?

I've got some 7xxx series RC5 cruncher machines and a couple A10 GPUs I could repurpose for a while....

works better with amd

it depend, gtx 970 is good, it can touch 22 mega and consumption is around 160w, it's not cheap but the cost of gpu does not matter much, because they are easily sellable

yeah its a very good card for gaming but too expensive for mining.

By the way my 280X undervolted only uses 150 watt and gets 21.5mh

but the 280x has only 3gb, it will be useless in some months, when the dag file increase to two giga already

LOL! Eth mining will be useless maybe in 2 months and you are worried about something that is about 2 years away. Even 2gb cards are good for another 9 months.

who said that i was talking about ethereum? there is not only etheruem with dag you know, another profitable etheruem clone might pop up

It might but it won't have the same market cap and won't be profitable. GPU mining will be dead once ETH is out of the picture.

i doubt, it was not dead long before ethereum and it will not be in the next year, people tend to forget that etheruem is not the most profitable coin that was ever created, there were many more profitable, the same will happen for the future, i remember when everyone was saying that in 2014 the altcoin mining scene was dead, and look now, we have ethereum, who know what the future will bring us

ETH was the #2 most profitable coin to mine ever, #1 was Bitcoin. Not even LTC matched its market cap.

So if you want to keep your GPUs for another 2-3 years and hope for some new coin to hit the 1 billion market cap you are free to wait, however most will go back to Bitcoin ASIC mining.

end of 2013 was a great time to GPU mine up until spring of 2014 and then its been dead until the beginning of 2016 when ETH came around.

Oh, there was Quark which was very profitable for like 45 days in 2015.

this is not true, dogecoin auroracoin blackcoin darkcoin, were all much more profitable if mined early, the same for jackpot coin, i think we were not here in early 2014 until summer 2014, etheruem is not even the most profitable by a big margin, jackpotcoin for example was giving me 0.01 for every 750ti that i had in the past, this is huge compared to ethereum, and it lasted around 2 months like ethereum which is tanking now

Well I made a few bucks while it lasted  but at least it was mining and not purchased I would of had a beating if I brought some.

We are at 0.02  and were at 0.027 when I got in.

BTW   the tanking matches f2pool starting up its eth pool.  So once again the Chinese will be blamed for the tanking of a coin.

I pay around 23 to 24 cents per kw. Ive been mining for a whiule with just a single gtx 970 and hit a few blocks but im mining at a loss im pretty sure. eth would have to go up in price a fair bit for me to be able to recover the costs of both hardware and coins. Id probably be lucky to break even.
mine in a pool solo is always gona result in a loss with that tiny a hash rate at the very leaat you make a small profit not a loss

not sure why you think you can solo mine with one gpu lol

I've just read the whole thread, and noticed a lot of mentions about evga 1300w , but nothing about servers psus.
Isn't it a good idea to use some to power the gpus ?
I'm thinking about the IBM 2000w server's PSU.

Most people must be mounting the host PC and cards in a traditional PC case, I'd assume.

Thank you for the answer.
I guess server's psus could be a good way to lower rig's cost as it is way cheaper than evgas.
With 2000w , it could power two air fram rigs dedicated to mining. (not rigs in case or rigs to sell to gamers like in first Phil strategy)
