a lot of accounts have been getting hacked recently lost my ajw7989 account as well about a month ago. So far still have not gotten it back or a response from an admin. Hopefully you can get it back quicker

I'm surprised no one mentioned this already (or I missed it). You need to PM theymos with the relevant information to initiate the recovery process: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/recovering-hacked-accounts-or-accounts-with-lost-passwords-497545. Be sure to use the exact template. It can take sometime however.

I have also advised him to contact theymos but I am wondering whether anyone has succeeded in recovering his account.

No, these bots don't target Bitcointalk users. I have recieved these messages before in addition to people in other communities I'm a part of. The bots poll random names and try to find one that replies to them so they can sell their service.
Just block them when you come across them.
