It certainly is not ideal, but the alternative is the chance of what happened to Zeroday that started this thread. ;-)

Someone compared cryptocurrencies to the early stages of the internet, that basically sums it up in a positive way. A future where people have a real say on whatever is called money without the need to centralize it.

Good point. If 1% of the citizens of the EU (and US etc) bought one bitcoin each, it would be a smart move to protect themselves.
