Recently I have heard a lot of reports about MEW getting hacked. Unless you have added security features, MEW is quite vulnerable to hacking. Most of the users store their Keystore file or private key carelessly, and this results in the vast majority of the hacks. It will be better if you move remaining tokens and ETH to another wallet.

Hi,

Today I checked my wallet and I noticed someone transferred 84(50$) CS tokens from account to 0xd8490b0a7db82be84d99ff6e047ed07769b7a6eb address. I know it is impossible to get those tokens and it is not a lot but I want to know how my account got hacked. Is there any way we could track how the person got my wallet key? Any help would be appreciated.

here is the transaction https://ethplorer.io/tx/0x3fbc60b142e314da6512881cd5141c8768e6ece19fd1756c47deb37827a7a7ec#pageSize=100

Thanks!

Clean your PC and transfer everything from your old MEW wallet to new wallet, you are most probably a victim of a phishing site. Always bookmark important websites and if possible one browser (FireFox) for transactions only and other (Chrome) for web surfing.

there are so many ways your account may be hacked but before I mention these ways, I will advise you not to send or receive any crypto to the wallet again because the person is having access and probably have your private key. back to the ways, your account can be hacked. 1. through phishing site. you probably click on phishing site and you enter your MEW detail through that. 2. store information about your wallet on online storage wallet or email. 3. somebody has direct access to your device that has your wallet detail on it. this might be your computer, phone  etc

Perhaps your private key has been stolen. I think you should check your computer or use a hard wallet.

but I want to know how my account got hacked
it is imposible to hack MEW, but the hacker hack is not a web mew, but your account. There are many ways that hackers do, I know, fake logers and spam. did you ever get the url via email? then you click, then you fill the MEW Secret Key?

may be very difficult to track because that wallet address could come from anywhere. may be taken on the plus side only to always be careful and more alert about this sort of thing.

Online wallet is vulnerable to phish or hack as long as there is connection. Much better next time don't always open your wallet just seldom to open it. The more you open the more vulnerable.! Be much careful next time.

You have to be careful when creating your wallet, and keeping it, all the carelessness can do great damage to you!
Never log in wallet at a strange computer, when feeling insecure, switch to another wallet to use!

You should purchase a hardware wallet like a Ledger or Trezor.

I think your computer is having problems. The plugins can monitor your computer activity or the software installed in the computer. You can remove unnecessary software and plugins from unknown sources and put some of your anti-virus software.

100% of your personal lock has been stolen. MEW can not be attacked.

MEW is a wallet that once your eth/tokens were transferred, you can only trace the transaction hash. When it was transferred and to what address, though you can report it to MEW by adding its address to watch list but you cannot track how the person got your key, either brute force, phising and etc.

How do I report to MEW?

I thiink you cant trace who is the owner of the address. And i think you've been visit a phising site.  They getting your private information. So much better to check it always,  bookmarked all your trusted sites. And always be aware about intruders.

Yes, we just can report it to MEW by adding its address to the watchlist. But some keyloggers are used to easily connect to the main account of the wallet,
And this can also be prevented if if the computer / laptop / the like will die every time you are not used so that your IP connection will not be detected by the hacker.

i am getting worried more and more because there are a lot of people being hacked the wallet  Sad Sad

Don't use metamask, and do not use MEW if you do not have a hardware wallet or a safe encrypted wallet.

I do not understand why there are a lot of people still doing the same, is like if you like to get hacked.

Sorry, but there is no going back in here, just buy a hardware wallet.

Why not to use metamask? Is metamask more secure than MEW?

Also, what do you guys think about the Trust Wallet app? https://trustwalletapp.com/

As I can see a lot of reputable projects are becoming partners with them. For example Havven, Kyber, Changelly, Poa...

Hey! Feel free to try out Trust Wallet. iOS version is open source on GitHub: https://github.com/TrustWallet. Security and Privacy is our priority, that's why our product is open source and we never ask for any personal information.
We started out as Ethereum Wallet and added support for ALL ERC20 compatible tokens, that's autodetected once you entered the app. Now our focused been on dApp Browser, so you can access Web3 apps that were only possible via Meta Mask until recently.

P.S. I'm Viktor, Trust Wallet Team. Feel free to tweet at me: @vikmeup
