Are all those people still involved in NXT? I thought CfB's contract was up. It looks like Jean-Luc and wesley have made all the commits for at least all of April: https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/commits/all. Is there another repro where other people are contributing?

This is not totally true. NXT has a good concept around removing everything but the blockchain itself. Transactions, messages and trade logs are stored in a way, that entries older than XXX days can be pruned. There is nothing decided yet, about the rules ect, but it is not so far away as you say.
As for bootstrapping, that is basically ready for BTC. Not sure why you say otherwise. It is not implemented because it is a nontrivial change, that is not needed 100%. That's why!

Show me the "good concept" or at least show me a quote from Jean-Luc saying so, please? you are obviously on the marketing side so I am supposed "good concept" about blockchain pruning is about as good as "good concept" in NXT 1000 TPS earlier.

I think we're looking too deeply into the meaning of the word. To be honest, the most accurate word to describe what's going on is 'collecting', which could work I suppose.

Let's take a step back and think about what the actual process is.

People are collecting transactions and build blocks to extend the blockchain. This is to secure the network. Most people do it so they can collect the fees.

Now what single word describes this aptly ?

Imho there are 3 possible aspects to go for:

building of the blockchain: bookkeeping, accounting, reporting, block building, ledger keeping, recording, ...
collecting fees: fee collecting, encash, levy, ...
supporting/securing the network: validating, ...

I'm sure people can think of better words I just wanted to outline what should imho be kept in mind.

Building would be an excellent choice.

Encryption is based on IES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Encryption_Scheme), common key is established using ECDH,
EC priv/pub key are ~256 bits.

(As you might know underlying problem is ECDLP, most (publicly known) breaks were done using Pollard rho method, biggest so far on 112 bits)
