Did anyone else see the press release report?  NEM was placed on over 370+ news media websites.  That's 370+ and not a typo.   Smiley

IMHO anon features should be a layer on top of currencies, to create true anonymity, rather than being in the currency. I hope that an anon service can be launched on top of NEM fairly soon.

Interesting read and something many proponents of Bitcoin never want to admit. I've been saying for a while now that Bitcoin is inherently flawed for a number of reasons, which is why I am moving most of my BTC holdings into next-gen crypto like NEM and other avenues of crypto-related investments.

Of course, I am still holding on to some BTC because they could theoretically still fix a lot of the issues it has. It's not like it is set in stone forever and can never be changed, but the question is whether or not they have the capability or willingness to do so before it's too late. Meanwhile, next-gen cryptocurrencies like NEM are already shaping up to be better in almost every conceivable way than the 1.0 cryptocurrencies and once they get established, well... it may be too late for the likes of BTC and its clones.

Just my thoughts on this matter. Tongue

We need to replace Bitcoin before it fails because if one crypto had wide adoption and failed other cryptos will have an even harder time every getting adopted again.

This is why NEM needs a direct link to fiat.

If NIS get open sourced, I think it wouldn't hurt to have a few persons look a the code from a security perspective. The idea of a "contest" is just to ensure we will have a few pairs of eyes looking at the code, but If we have some fellow NEMbsters with that particular background, that's even better.

NIS will definitely be open sourced. That's something all developers unanimously agree on.

I've been playing a bit with the 1-click-install and so far it's really great. Though, i agree that the whole NIS and NCC is not user friendly. It should be more transparent for the user.

Now that the code it out, is there a security audit (contest) that is planned? (I cant remember seeing this in the discussion). I really think that we should keep a couple of stakes for that.

Finally,  can someone send me some testNEM?

Cheers!

I am sure if you found a security flaw in the code, that the devs would give you atleast a partial NEMstake as a reward.
I don't know any more specifics than that though.

As of now, NCC is Open Sourced not NIS. Bugs in NCC hardly affect the network.
Even so it's still possible to find bugs, and one person already did found a bug.

I didn't take the time to look at the code yet, but If I do and I find anything, I will not want any stake in return. As a stakeholder, having a great coin with a value that will grow over time is reward enough (and I'm sure this is true for most stakeholder). But Open source mean that anyone can look at the code, so if anyone find a way to manipulate the blockchain, they could use it for their own gain and therefore crash the value of NEM.

There has been a lull over the whole cryptocurrency sphere of late but that will change, I'm sure of it. Quiet progress has been made with NXT and NEM. As the global situation deteriorates, financially and geopolitically we will see the Big Influx of capital. Im sure the guys that stay the course will be amply rewarded.
Remember what happened to BTC during the Cyprus bail-in? Well in my opinion NXT and NEM will be better positioned to see inflows of money like that but multiplied hundreds - fold.

How true. This is the very thing I have always been harping about. Without a proper and sustainable program, no coin will ever survive! Decentralization is only as good as its concept. Put in practice, it will fail.

Decentralization without any consideration for the poor devs who make so much sacrifices to get a coin or an ecosystem up and running is a misnomer. Further, if there are any delays or screw ups in their roll out, they are mostly criticized and belittled for their delays or shortcomings.

A real project like NEM that is developed from scratch should take at least 1 year. But everyone is rushing for it to be completed yesterday.

A lot of people do not understand the process of writing codes and making them work well and proper. Come to think of it, who is paying these developers to continue after the job is completed at launch? We must take cognizance that these developers do not have a timeline guarantee for the completion of V1. And V1 is the crux of the NEM ecosystem. V1 is where the AE and the rule based solution are. Without that, we are only a coin.

That's why the very existence of AltNemo is important. Many see the relevance and importance but many also don't see it worth supporting. It is with the hope that if a commercial entity is well supported, then there is every chance of survival of a project. Otherwise things will look bleak.

Many will say that these developers are already being rewarded with Nem Stakes for their work. What happens if there is a huge dumping game going and the value of the coin is reduced to sand dust? Who is going to guarantee their food on the table? How can our developers be guaranteed and incentivized to work on the NEM ecosystem?

We are not an ethereum with $15 million sitting comfortably in the bank. Even our crowdsale is not going as fast as we'd like it to be. We have such a good ecosystem and platform going but we do not have an equally committed following. We have a lot of people egging us on but we don't have enough game changers in the forum.

We should not take our programmers for granted because they need to survive as well. They are also humans like us and have a life.  We should find a financially sound scheme to sustain them to sustain the NEM ecosystem.

I would urge everyone who is dead serious about the success of NEM to consider and think of a good plan to ensure the sustainability of NEM. This is vital and important.

Maybe the community should think of a way to sustain the value of a NEM coin to 1 cent. This will guarantee the devs' stay.:-)

So, no dumping please!

where can we trade this

As dawj20 said, the NXT asset exchange is currently the only place I know of where you can buy/sell NEMstakes.

You can see a chart and the order book here: https://nxtblocks.info/#section/assets_exchange/market/12465186738101000735

We need to replace Bitcoin before it fails because if one crypto had wide adoption and failed other cryptos will have an even harder time every getting adopted again.

Most certainly. Luckily NEM is looking poised to do just that and it really could not come at a better time. Of course, by this I don't mean we should rush NEM to launch as soon as possible. We still have plenty of time, unless another next-gen crypto appears out of nowhere and surprises us all, but I don't foresee that happening before NEM launches. I also don't see BTC failing any time in the very near future (in cryptocurrency terms at least). I think it has at least another few years left in it before it declines significantly in popularity (with maybe a surge in popularity happening first or even multiple times along the way).

Of course, it's a possibility that BTC could very well collapse tomorrow if a significant flaw in the protocol is found that renders it completely useless. For now though, any flaws it does have can be somewhat maintained for the time being I think. The really big hurdles for Bitcoin come down the road when mass adoption of cryptocurrency begins. Luckily we will have NEM in place by then. Smiley
