The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom

I mined quite a lot of Verge/x17 and Verge/Lyra2rev2 a couple of months ago, and then I went to mining different coins - I switch around quite a lot.

I didn't hear about this attack or anything about it until I saw that maybe mining Verge is quite profitable sometimes at the moment, but it really depends which website calculator you trust.... and I went to the Suprnova site and saw the link to this thread beginning a month ago.

I have only read the first couple of pages and last couple of pages of this thread and I still don't understand if Verge is compromised or not, or if @OCMiner / Suprnova is only begrudgingly allowing it to be mined at their pool, or if it is all fixed and Verge is fine?

Can anyone say categorically WTF is going on with Verge and Verge mining right now?

All my instincts are yelling at me to stay away from it, it's broken, etc, etc but I have seen other coins (even really big ones like Ethereum) go through some pretty terrible hacks, bugs, attacks, etc and survive.

I think that the nature of Verge - with anonymity, privacy, TOR connection, etc will make it a very tempting target to be hacked, especially if as @OCMiner seems to suggest that it's being dev'd by a single person rather than a team. It's a coin that fundamentally allows you to hide. Obviously that is a great thing if it works and terrible if it doesn't, but it must really suit someone who is essentially stealing from the network.

I dunno... I think I will keep mining ETH, Zencash, Komodo, Monero or even Zcash for a while and just watch what happens in the Verge universe.

Is anyone out there mining Verge with complete confidence?

in the way that the coins are encoded, every mined block must have different algorithms if they are the next block. It seems, now, they are the next block with the same mining algorithm. The problem is, according to the poster, the attacker mines one block every second, for thirteen hours before being discovered. This is because of a bug in XVG code that allows users to mine blocks with spoofed timestamps.

Hey, if anyone is interested in a Verge PPS pool, I just launched this today: http://xvg.elitehash.net/

Other algos coming, for now there's just X17. Payouts are set to 100% (meaning I will keep the transaction fees but that's it)

I wonder how this connection between Verge and Pornhub actually came to existence? Who did reach out to whom? Does anybody know anything?

It was mentioned by the Verge dev that pornhub/mindgeek contacted them ... if i remember right it was mentioned in an interview or statement he gave.

If that is accurate then it would be big for me, it's one thing reaching out to hundreds or thouands of potential partners, but if Pornhub contacted Verge proactively you have to wonder what is going on behind the scenes. You would think that more established coins like Dash or Monero would be the 1st choice.

"Hi, if you give us 5 millions $ we will accept your currency on pornhub" ... I think that I know how Dash or Monero devs would react Cheesy

So does Pornhub accepting verge make it the most accepted and usable cryptocurrency to date? Considering Pornhub is ranked #14 for highest traffic on the internet.

3 billion of visitors every month and still the price tanked after the announcement which makes me wonder what people were expecting. My only question is when will this payment option be implemented on the site?

hmm it seems that pornhub wont be affiliate to XVG

No. Because cca 3-5% of ppl pay for premium on porn hub and from this percentage mb 1% will pay with xvg. It's more advertisement.  Most used currencies are Btc and those used on darknet markets obviously.

I get why you're pissed off and I'm a total noob here, but I gotta say that I think they need you ocminer.
WE need people like you running the pools and keeping an eye on things for the rest of us. In this quickly evolving space we need a lot more than straight up profit-takers. We need people who give a shit about doing this thing right.
I hope you change your mind about XVG. I'd use your pool at double the fee exactly because you care about more than profits.

It's an amazing coin. There are always a lot of opposing gossip around this coin. But it seems to me that this will be a very interesting and successful project.

The reason why difficulty is raised is because more hash power is thrown at the network. There can be many reasons for this. Unless the person/group who is doing it comes in here and tells us why...we are all just guessing. Who knows? Maybe they want to mine Verge for 15 minutes and then switch to something else for a little while and then they come back.

^ this assumes that what you are saying is true and the difficulty is in fact being raised (i didn't take the time to verify this)

You know what kind of hashpower would be needed to raise the difficulty from one second to another 3x times and that while it was near its normal peek of diffuclty 2M - 2.5M?? Seriously, on Myriad-Groestly thats a big amount of Baikals that had to be switched on and off for 15 minutes only.

I do not say it's not possible, but i doubt you have seen something similar so far that a hashrate goes up on it's peek 3x times, dude, thats hugeeee hashpower if it was hashpower.

And yes, why the hell should i lie about it? I even described minute by minute how i discovered it even with exact time. +/- 5 minutes, so easy to check for someone that has the ability and skill.

Maybe I am missing something Smiley But, can someone explain how new blocks are being mined and total reward is higher than 1560 ?

As i have 2 experts here, what are the reasons the difficulty on XVG myriad-groestl raises from 1 second to another from 2M up to 6.2M for about 10-15 minutes and than back to normal? (happened some days ago)

What chart or tool are you using to see the difficulty? When did that spike occur?

While I'm no expert, I'll give you a few guesses as to why.  Grin

Actually, it seems like there is a pattern of events occurring regularly for periods of 3 hours or so where difficulty doubles, then comes back down.

I first noticed it on Awesome Miner where i have all my Asics on to easier control them all. I'am mining with Baikal X10's on Myriad-Groestl.

By coincidence i just was looking exactly on these Baikals and Myriad-Groestl when i noticed that really from 1 second to another the difficulty jumped from
2.2M which is anyway very high and in that range it normally bounces back to below 1M, it raised to 6.2M, which is nearly 3x the normal highest difficulty
on that algo.

First i thought it might be some bug, glitch whatever by awesomeminer but on suprnova poolstats i saw the same 6.12 something stats for difficulty.

It happened around 01:00 - 01:11:19, The timestamp of my post which i made in this forum topic (page 55, #1084)  22-04-2018, 01:11:19 was right after
i saw difficulty confirmed on suprnova as well.

It just was strange and mostly if i had not overlooked my mashines right and that moment i mostly would not have noticed.

Your ideas?

up and back to topic. Anybody a suggestion how and why this can happen?

...which makes me wonder what people were expecting.
Probably because it depends on the people smart enough to know how to use cryptocurrency yet dumb enough to pay for porn.

This.
Also after 3days main pornhubpage xvg banner dissapeared ,now majority of ppl visiting pornhub don´t give a fuck or didn´t even notice xvg payment option.
