As i have 2 experts here, what are the reasons the difficulty on XVG myriad-groestl raises from 1 second to another from 2M up to 6.2M for about 10-15 minutes and than back to normal? (happened some days ago)

What chart or tool are you using to see the difficulty? When did that spike occur?

While I'm no expert, I'll give you a few guesses as to why.  Grin

Actually, it seems like there is a pattern of events occurring regularly for periods of 3 hours or so where difficulty doubles, then comes back down.

I first noticed it on Awesome Miner where i have all my Asics on to easier control them all. I'am mining with Baikal X10's on Myriad-Groestl.

By coincidence i just was looking exactly on these Baikals and Myriad-Groestl when i noticed that really from 1 second to another the difficulty jumped from
2.2M which is anyway very high and in that range it normally bounces back to below 1M, it raised to 6.2M, which is nearly 3x the normal highest difficulty
on that algo.

First i thought it might be some bug, glitch whatever by awesomeminer but on suprnova poolstats i saw the same 6.12 something stats for difficulty.

It happened around 01:00 - 01:11:19, The timestamp of my post which i made in this forum topic (page 55, #1084)  22-04-2018, 01:11:19 was right after
i saw difficulty confirmed on suprnova as well.

It just was strange and mostly if i had not overlooked my mashines right and that moment i mostly would not have noticed.

Your ideas?

Recently I saw information about the fact that Verge entered into an alliance with a very large pornhab. Hence, capitalization has grown quite strongly. Maybe hackers have an interest in this coin?

Perhaps they have an interest, but I doubt due to PornHub.

And actually, Verge has lost market cap and is losing value at the moment.

What are the possibilities that can lead to another timestamp afterwards?

As i have 2 experts here, what are the reasons the difficulty on XVG myriad-groestl raises from 1 second to another from 2M up to 6.2M for about 10-15 minutes and than back to normal? (happened some days ago)

Depends on how we are looking at it.. Data I am using is coming from "Official Verge Explorer" where they control the database and front end, and therefore, could display any data they want. So, data manipulation is one.. Will have to think about others.

Anyone else?

First of all, I never said anything about blocks 2072442 <--> 2072431. I was using 2072217 & 2072221 simply as an example of a large time gap which is clearly visible and referring to the associated wallet address, D9duEGdmX76Py3YvG36FYav39XEsRFDWjd transactions.

Perhaps your sampling of blocks 2072431 --> 2072442 are all "valid" blocks. . That is fine and can is certainly possible with the current code state of drift time allowance. However, if you apply your formula ("Calculating the Median timestamp of these previous 11 Blocks") to the block sampling I DID point out (blocks 2072221 --> blocks 2072210), I find them to NOT be valid: 15:52:02 < 15:52:56

I used Block 2072442 just to test with as I was assuming any Block would fail the validity test if there was an issue with the blockchain. However, since you are saying that the Block sample you used failed the test - I went ahead and attempted to verify your results. I am here back reporting that I could NOT reproduce your results. I'm actually confused as to how you are getting the values 15:52:02 & 15:52:56, as the Timestamps from the Block sample you are referencing are as follows from https://verge-blockchain.info/

Code:
[b]2072221 19th Apr 2018 17:54:50[/b]

2072220 19th Apr 2018 17:52:01
2072219 19th Apr 2018 17:54:40
2072218 19th Apr 2018 17:54:35
2072217 19th Apr 2018 17:54:28
2072216 19th Apr 2018 17:49:58
2072215 19th Apr 2018 17:52:56
2072214 19th Apr 2018 17:52:32
2072213 19th Apr 2018 17:52:00
2072212 19th Apr 2018 17:48:39
2072211 19th Apr 2018 17:48:32
2072210 19th Apr 2018 17:48:19

Taking the Median of the previous 11 Blocks (2072220 to 2072210) we get a Timestamp = 17:52:01

Block 2072221 is a valid Block because its timestamp is greater than the Median of the previous 11 Blocks.

17:54:50 > 17:52:01

I'm happy to verify that we do indeed have invalid Blocks present on the Verge blockchain if you are able to provide me with a Block number that is actually invalid. So far though, everything remains hunky-dorey.

When I recorded it, timestamp of block 2072221 was: 19th Apr 2018 17:52:02

Should add a gravity well or blackhole to sluff off excessive low-diff scrypt-only blocks when they are solved in succession like this.  The behavior displayed by the miner should be easy enough to isolate then if they are all low-diff scrypt-only at diff 0 or under 1 then let that diff increase exponentially until it matches the network diff within 1 minute.

Be sure to push all patches hot and in production, so you get to see real world results without ever testing anything.

So does Pornhub accepting verge make it the most accepted and usable cryptocurrency to date? Considering Pornhub is ranked #14 for highest traffic on the internet.

No. Because cca 3-5% of ppl pay for premium on porn hub and from this percentage mb 1% will pay with xvg. It's more advertisement.  Most used currencies are Btc and those used on darknet markets obviously.
so xvg got a boost because btc is more widely used?

Huh What boost. That from 1400 to 700?

I see a sudden a network difficulty spike from 2M to 5.8M on Verge/Myriad-Groestl , anyone else or just some glitch on my miner program?

Update: 6,123,750.18413109 and its raising, this is not normal in my opinion!!!!!

I think that change happened within minutes. Anybody any explaination why how this can happen?
