For the not so experienced miners, how do you do merged mining when solo mining?
Assuming you want to mine namecoins as well as i0coins. Get and run the latest namecoin daemon, 0.3.24.64. Get and run the latest i0coin daemon. Get the i0coin source. Inside the 'contrib' directory of the source there is a 'merged-mining 'merged-mining-proxy' python script. Run this with command line arguments like:

Code:
merged-mining-proxy -w 10332 -p http://user:[email protected]:7332 -x http://user:[email protected]:8332

Replace 7332 and 8332 with the ports you are running the i0coin and namecoin JSON-RPC server on respectively (the above are the defaults). Replace 'user' and 'password' with the rpcuser and rpcpassword's used for the respective programs. Point your miner to http://127.0.0.1:10332 as the address to mine and use any username and password, they are ignored. Mining should then start.

Is there a i0coin, namecoin and bitcoin mining support? All 3 at same time?
Not yet, you have to wait for block 160,000 before that becomes possible. Currently only i0coin+namecoin (or other chain that has support as a auxiliary merged mining chain).

Unexpectedly, at the moment, i0coin is almost 4x the hash rate of GG
(difficulty almost 200) so by the time it gets to 160,000 (or 150,000) it should be way safer than GG
I would suggest a checkpoint update soon after that too Smiley
I hope those of you mining i0coin at the moment are merge mining namecoin at the same time and making extra out of it. Namecoin difficulty is fairly high though so it's probably not a big deal.

Lets spread the word, tell everyone that this is occurring. Lets get more miners into i0coin and help bring it back to life.

We need an logo, like its own coin, and we need people to spread the word.
Lets try and bring this back to life.

DoubleC, do you think you can make a i0coin logo and put it into the wallet?
Lets try to promote this.

Getting back to the topic, the vircurex exchange has announced i0coin support when block 160,000 is reached and hash power increases.

My Open Transactions server is only in "alpha testing" phase. The momeny a third party tried to inport a contract, connect, and use the thing we found glaring awful gotcha that had hardly been noticed by people testing only on machines they set up and doing their copy-paste routines themselves using habitual details of how the habitually perform such operations. (Do you usually copy/paste that the file's last line of text ends, or do you prefer to make sure you only copy-paste up to but not including the end of the last line (the invisible end, not the last non-whitespace character...)

All is currently waiting for release of a whitespace fix that hopefully will prevent different people's customs of how files end versus how/whether the last line of text in the file ever ends and whether the file starts with the first non-whitespace or may contain some initial whitespace.

This tiny detail can cause every contract-ID you compute do be different from the contract-ID everyone else out there computes.

I might have to discover a completely different ID for DigiI0coins, thus making all accounts that used to be about such coins to no longer be about the new "real correct" ID-identified DigiI0coins and so on.

Very alpha. Not quite the first time anyone tried using a client on one machine to talk to a server on a completely other machine out over the real internet, but possibly the first, probably among the first, test of completely different people trying to get one's client to work across the internet with someone else's server.

The test has shown that Open Transactions really does look good for the proposed tasks, we do right away though have to fix this ghastly stupid little whitespace gotcha to protect against different habits of copy-paste users so we can have everyone actually agree as to what the ID of a given contract should be / correctly is.

As to the initial distribution and the inflation due to minting not being complete yet stuff, my big problem all along with these alternates, and with BTC itself too, is the whole "lets not back them at all" approach.

I am going to try to convince the folks who wanted their own chains, such as GMC, GRF, UKB, CZB, NKL, etc etc etc, to just use Open Transactions for now to issue DigiGMC, DigiGRF, DigiUKB DigiCZB etc etc etc so as to get the currency into use in spite of blockchain vulnerability of low hash power chains problems and to get the value their coins/currency is to represent as widely distributed as possible so that come a day when they do go to a blockchain format/implementation they will already have people/entities to distribute the initial coins to and how much to distribute to each, They will thus be able to simply mint all their coins in the first or second block, distribute them in accordance with how many Digitokens representing their eventual coins various entities have, and presto, initial distribution is already solved before even creating the genesis block and before even solving how to merge mine all these many many alternate chains, *and* meanwhile they can actually *back* their currency since they need not worry that huge mining comglomerates willturn in millions of them foor redemption without having provided anything with which to back them aka something to redeem them *with*.

For i0coins, this could mean that DigiI0coins might be free to become more valuable than "actual I0coins"...

...Like so: I only have maybe about 7000 "actual I0coins" that are old enough most clients checkpoints would fail if my coins were somehow caused to appear to be in an orphaned part of the blockchain.

So I can only "safely" issue about 7000 DigiI0coins.

Could competition to have some of that limited number of DigiI0coins that will be available to trade on the exchange drive up the value of such DIgicoins? Not sure, but in theory/principle maybe it could...

Hope to see i0coin alive as well. It seems work is being put into it, keep it up, and promote it.
And still some miners mining i0coin.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/goldcoins-gc-idea-promotion-53547 (Completely changed from one above on this thread)
My above post, if interested in GoldCoin, this if promoted will end up separate, not to replace i0coin.

Keep i0coin going, and lets get it up and running. And good luck on the changes at block 150,000-160,000
And heard there is some alpha testing, more alive then ixcoin.
And a lot of time it has more hash rate then GG.

i0coin has 200% more hash rate then GG, and GG has exchange rate.
So i really see life in it keep up the good work!

And hopefully my donations from earlier and others put Doublec to some good work on this. To get things running. And hopefully an exchange!

Lets faced it i0coin has restarted 3 times, I think people need a new currency!

*The idea master of this is me. If someone wishes to build upon this and actually wants to promote this; you may use it if i receive a donation tab, on all clients, exchanges, and a 0.1% fee per transaction towards the idea master. (This is way less then Solidcoin 5% fees){Decrease to 0.01% is agreed upon once all 100K is given out}*
How could the coder control what other exchanges and clients do? They can't force them to put a donation tab on their sites/programs. How do you deal with sites that don't do this?

The fee is 0.1% of what? The transaction amount? That's huge. Solidcoin doesn't take a fee from transactions AFAIK. Or do you mean of the 20 coins mined per block only?

Updated set of rules.

This prevents no pre-mined, and 50 times less then solidcoin. Donation would be very small amounts, and some bucks would help me to put some effort into promoting Goldcoin as well.

Doublec, think you can code this?

And put a donation tab for yourself as well.

How is the exchange going for i0coin? is it still be developed?
There is some miners on i0coin, so looks like some life.
markm posted about an open transactions based exchange for i0coin which I believe is available now. I don't know how it works though as I haven't tried it. As you say block 150,000 is getting close for the timetravel fix and merge mining at block 160,000. I'm open to suggestions for changes to the client if you have any.

How would the coder get 5K without premining? And if they did premine that'd be 5% of the total money supply. You might want to start a new thread on it if you want to get interest and discussion.

Goldcoins
-------------

1) Set existing limit of 100K(Prevents Huge supplies and lowering of price if demand remains same)
2) Once fully distributed out, miners then mine off others transactions
3) Set block rate of 100
4) Difficulty adjustment of per 2 hours
5) Difficulty adjustments increase a maximum of 100% per 2 hours
This above difficulty adjustments will help to spread it to the rest
6) Difficulty drops of 10% is maximum( Helps to not have few people get such large amounts, rather helps to distribute more evenly)
7) Early miners will be setting the price, like 5K for 0.1btc could be a starting price; and then 10 different people
may buy 500 each, and those may spread 500 into another 10 people, etc. (This will help to spread it to everyone; and anyone can buy it,
so if mining stops, there is always some on the market to grab, and this will be a trading currency. Aimed at the goal of having no supply increases, but keeping 100K existing forever, and no more. Bitcoin flaw is a continuing supply increase amount for years to come; resulting in inflation, and devaluation of currency. Goldcoin helps to spread in a quick time, and eliminate flaws.)

Natural trading through markets, will eventually spread it to the rest,
and a scarce amount of 100K, and a unique design, should make many
interested in this concept. No Centralization planed like solidcoin.
Meant to fully support the idea of it.

If someone truly spend the time this thing could be promoted.
And If a large amount of people lets say millions if achieved one day
wanted this, we could always deal with MGC, milliGoldcoins.
1 MGC= 0.0001 GC

Set up
----------
1) Make logos (Gold->Stable->Value)
2) Make Graphs pointing Bitcoin price crash to increasing supply
3) Promotion of client, logos, its own site. (Example: www.goldcoins.org)
4) Spread the word
