Currently "practicing" on my old PC:

GPU: 4870X2 @ 800 / 990
CPU: Core2Duo E8600
Corsair 1000W PSU

CGMiner hashing @ ~260Kh/s

Looking to build a rig comprising of 6x Asus Radeon R9 280X DirectCUII TOP 3072MB GDDR5 on MSI Z77A-GD65 Motherboard with Intel G1610 Celeron. I'll get two PSUs (Corsair AX1200 and Corsair HX1050).
Should get me approx 4.5Mh/s methinks.

PS: I'm currently hashing on the Middlecoin switching pool. Does anyone know if it works to use both CGminer and CPUpooler with the same Wallet address as username from the same computer? I tried quickly the other day but had to abort as it looked like it was freezing for some reason. Did not have the chance to try again...

I had a 4870 too, got 125 Kh/s out of it. I have upgraded to a R9 290. Gives me 820Kh/s out of the box.

Pretty simple:

1x HD6970 & 2x7850's for scrypt mining, 1150KH/s with an FX8320 mining quarkcoins.
Setup will run for the winter as it heats my hallway nicely Smiley before being put back to gaming use.

GPUs: 2x MSI TwinFrozr III 7950
CPU: AMD A4 5300 3.4 GHz
Motherboard: MSI FM2-A85XA-G43
OS: Windows 8.1

Software: MultiMiner (totally awesome!) + bfgminer (of course)

Just getting started on tuning, but when mining Litecoins I get:

Settings: -I 18
Results: 70-74 temp, 53-63 fan, 577 Kh/s

I was unclear on whether I should enter flags in MultiMiner to configure overclocking and undervolting, or whether I should use MSI Afterburner - MultiMiner author Nate Wools set me straight and recommends MSI Afterburner, so that is what I'll be doing next!

GPU: Sapphire R9 290 reference model (yes it does make a lot of noise at 70% fan speed, to keep my gpu-temp below 75 celcius)
CPU: an old Core2Duo E4400
PSU: 750W 80 bronze certificate

At stock settings, ill get 820-825 khash.

Im waiting for a custom cooler for my GPU, so temps can go down to 60-65 and i can start tweaking settings.

I might get another system together for mining. We are all pioneers still. Dont let the bitcoin story hold you back. Many more millionairs will arise from this.

Tip: its good to mine alt coins, it might be even better to trade (buy low, sell high and visa versa) with it. Much more money to be made trading.

Gaming rig that moonlights as a miner:

HTPC that wants to be a miner:

I was pulling ~320KH/s last night, my first attempt, with the gaming rig.  I came to see if ai can get that a bit higher.  The HTPC with the AMD card should be pie to setup after figuring all this out.

Currently just running cpu on downtime for dogecoin.  Have a few systems I could set up, most the desktops have rather archaic and antiquated gpu's, do you think it would be worth the effort?  Haven't really kept up in the cryptocurrency madness to know what a bottomline for being worth the effort would be?

Your questions are exactly my own. Not looking to throw my family under a bus for an internet fad, but also not willing to be stationary as new frontiers open. I'm looking to make a small hardware investment, break even on hardware expense, and then accumulate coin slowly and surely. So far so good...

Let's see more specs for ex-Counterstrike addict dads who need to get a jump on college funds with crypto...

Before this thread submerges itself down into the cesspool of the Newbies subforum hell, what have you just put together in the last few weeks, and how is it working for you?

I'll start. Got two of these rigs going:

GPU: 2 x HD6970 reference w/ stock cooling  Cry
CPU: AMD A8-5600K Trinity 3.6GHz
MB: GIGABYTE GA-F2A88X-UP4
