check BTC ATMs;  I have already used Instacoin ATM located in MAISONNEUVE in Montreal.
https://coinatmradar.com/country/38/bitcoin-atm-canada/
Its is very easy to use you just scan the QR code of your BTC adress, insert cash. You will the receive bitcoins in the adress you've already scanned.

Use international exchanges not canada based ones. Fee's are not even close to that huge numbers u wrote.
I can recommend kraken, bitstamp, gemini, poloniex and btc-e.
Try one of those.

There are certain advantages in using local exchanges over the international ones. I have tried fiat withdrawal in some of these exchanges, and it takes a lot of time. But the local exchanges process the fiat withdrawals without much delay. Also, there is not much difference in the fee between various exchanges.

hi,

im new and a complete noob to this.  but i am open and looking into this recently.

i have setup a few wallets and researched up on a few coins that i would like to invest in.

as i am currently situated in canada, it seems that actually getting btcs is the hardest point.  locally, i would be paying +7%
and any exchanges does not seem to be 'instant', and +3-5 % when using cc

any advice would be appreciated

thanks.

I' suggest do some research first on the altcoin you're going to buy cause some of it is just a scam made to just steal your money. I believe bitcoin pricr has dip recently in just few days if your here already in bitcointalk and participated in the forums you might got lucky and bought some bitcoins whild it was still low. Some traders are looking to invest in ETH, Dash, Monero. I believe this altcoin is hype because of its speculations that it might rise. Although i dont recommend investing in an altcoin for long term. It is best to invest in altcoin only for short term. Goodluck OP.

Hi rays.strategies,

I wrote an article for DCEBrief on the easiest way to buy bitcoin in Canada as of  March 23, 2106. The fees charged are higher, but in my circumstances they are hands down worth it for the sake of speed and convenience. If you are only making occasional purchases of bitcoin and/or need only smaller amounts (there are maximum limits on these methods), it is worth a try. I have tested both of these methods (QuickBT several times), and I'm not 100% sure, but I think their fees may have come down since I wrote the article.

"Buying Bitcoin In Canada Has Never Been Easier" - https://dcebrief.com/buying-bitcoin-in-canada-has-never-been-easier/

----------------------------

I also posted the following more detailed instructions on CryptoMoms - http://cryptomoms.com/forum/general-discussion/9/how-to-buy-bitcoin/1473/

QuickBT - Canada’s Easiest Way To Buy Bitcoin Now

From their website:

QuickBT is for buying Bitcoin and having it sent straight to a Bitcoin address. You can pay for things or pay yourself.

It works like this:

Step 1. Get a live quote
Step 2. Pay with INTERAC® Online
Step 3. We make a Bitcoin payment to the Bitcoin address

All in a couple of clicks!

Watch Demo on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeRnhX6WO3Q

Why QuickBT?

Bitcoin in minutes or hours, not days

Use your bank account as ID, we don't accept cash

Official INTERAC® Merchant Account

Pro-active with FINTRAC Regulation

Transparent Business Activities

SSL Secured to Respect Privacy

The service available in Canada is open to those that have online banking at one of the following banks:

BMO Bank of Montreal
Envision Financial
Libro Credit Union
Scotiabank
TD Canada Trust
RBC Royal Bank

It is also available in Australia using POLi®.

I signed up in a matter of minutes and received a text with a code to enter.  They said the first purchase may take up to 24 hours while they verify everything, but after that it will be minutes to perhaps a couple of hours (in certain circumstances).  The purchase came through about 19 hours later.  I made another purchase today and checked 5 minutes later and it was already at the exchange!

This convenience comes at a cost.  The fee for this exchange is 9%, but I can tell you from personal experience, that something this easy is worth the rate for someone who is new and overwhelmed by the complications in acquiring bitcoin and then DNotes.  It is not suitable for someone wanting to regularly buy larger amounts of bitcoin, but for helping someone learn how to buy it for the first time, it is a gem.  You can buy anywhere from .005 to .25, so the fee isn't too large dollar wise.

I think this is a great way to get started.

You can now purchase Bitcoin at 6,000 retail locations in Canada with BitAccess

BitAccess customers can now purchase bitcoin using a Flexepin voucher. Available in 6,000 Canadian retail locations, Flexepin can be bought using cash or a debit card.

Buying a Flexepin bitcoin voucher is like purchasing a gift card. It is bought from a store cashier. Once the purchase is made, a voucher is provided in the form of a receipt. In 60 seconds, the receipt can then be redeemed for the cash equivalent of bitcoin.

In just 3 steps, anyone can quickly buy bitcoin:

1. Find a store by visiting Bitaccess.

2. Pay the store cashier for a Flexepin voucher. If the cashier is unable to find Flexepin, tell them it is on the prepaid machine and is just like a paysafecard.

3. Redeem the voucher at https://bitcoin.bitaccess.co/ to add bitcoin to a digital wallet of your choice.

Flexepin allows you to buy up to $250 worth of bitcoin per day. They come in $10, $30, $50, $100 or $250 vouchers.

https://ihb.io/2016-03-09/news/you-can-now-purchase-bitcoin-at-6000-retail-locations-in-canada-with-bitaccess-28037

Tested:

The cashier had never heard of Flexepin, so I did have to mention it is like a paysafecard.

I bought a $10 Flexepin voucher (at a gas station) and with the fee the total was $11.49 Canadian. The fee may seem expensive to those already in the industry, but for newcomers, ease of use comes first. One thing I forgot to ask is if the fee is a flat percentage of the voucher value, or if you get a better deal if you buy a larger amount. I can't find the answer online, so I'll check the next time I'm there.

- To purchase bitcoin with this voucher, you enter a mobile phone # and they send a log-in password.

- Your name and address are required as per regulations.

- Once logged in, you enter the 16 digit PIN number that is on the voucher as well as your Bitcoin address.

The whole process (after going out and purchasing the voucher) was faster than waiting for the Bitcoin confirmations at Poloniex.

Different exchanges have different fees, another critical variable is the payment method you prefer together with the actual amount of money you are ready to invest.

For example if you are thinking of 20-30 hundred and would prefer to use your Visa card - take a look at GDAX or Cex

thanks guys.

ya, i came across coinbase too.  but it doesnt allow me to add a payment method.  it keeps saying that ive tried too many times.

i found quadrigcx and am in the process of registering with them at the moment.  i guess i'll see how that turns out.

The transaction will take a week to settle but you'll lock in your price at the point of sale.

a week to settle?!

Coinbase are one of the most well known exchanges out there, but also one of the exchanges with the most complaints. They have very silly

KYC/AML regulations and requirements and their support is pretty bad. Can you register on Gemini ? or on https://localbitcoins.com/ ?

They might be a bit better than Coinbase for now.  Wink

The exchange fees vary by exchange. Coinbase is popular and available in Canada. As long as you're not concerned about sharing your identity with Coinbase you can link a bank account (create an account specifically for your crypto currency transactions) and then buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin with Coinbase funded through that bank account. The transaction fees via bank account purchase are less than 2%. The transaction will take a week to settle but you'll lock in your price at the point of sale.

If you don't want to use Coinbase we can share many other options for you to consider.

Be very careful with coinbase-  I don't use them and most that I know don't also-  you can buy btc there but they don't like you to actually use them :/
I like Gemini and Cex.io when I'm in a pinch

Try international exchanges, some may suit you, for example bitstamp, poloniex, btc-e, kraken, there are many to choose from with diffirent characteristics.

Coinbase says only credit card deposits for Canadians right now.

Yeah. Days for a transaction to settle is common with investment houses, which is what Coinbase is acting as in these transactions. I suspect it also gives them time to try to find a lower price in the market to make some margin off the original order. The credit for the order hits your account immediately, but you won't see the number of coins you add available for about 5 days. This is only with direct bank account transactions with Coinbase. If you order through them with a credit card you'll see the coins in your account almost immediately, but they'll also charge you 3-5%.

I'm not sure if Canada allows you to use Bitstamp, but that's usually the easiest way to convert USD to BTC. Sometimes they are a bit higher priced than other site, but as long as you keep track of it, it's not too bad. You will have to verify identity, address, etc, and the account takes a week to verify, but that would be in easiest IMO.

From there you can send BTC to other wallets/exchanges to trade in altcoins.

Try Unocoin, localbitcoin, Zebpay, etc.
You can find bitcoin on them and they are instant.
Orelse you can find some local trader who trades bitcoin.
According to your country (Canada) you can find many butcoin dealers as Canada is one of the growing web in Bitcoin world.
