hi, i just joined the crypto market, and was referred to this forum so i can learn better and can learn from on this forum. I have some questions please help me answer it:
- I have an initial capital of $5000, what coin should I invest in for the long term?
- How to avoid easy scam coins?
...
Of course, you ask the right forum, here most of them are people who are experienced in investing or trading, and you can get advice from those who are experienced, I will also give you my opinion briefly.
-$5000 is very suitable to invest in bitcoin and ethereum for the long term, you can choose to invest in one or both by dividing it into 50:50.
- there is no sure way to know it's a scam or not, we only use a thorough analysis, such as the team, roadmap, community and other documents that we consider that the project is taken seriously.

- I have an initial capital of $5000, what coin should I invest in for the long term?

Wait and buy when the market corrects again. Most people make the mistake of investing when the market is high and then usually lose. But the very few manage to buy for psychological reasons when prices have fallen sharply. But this is exactly where you make the biggest profits in the medium and long term.

- How to avoid easy scam coins?

As a newbie, invest only in established coins e.g. in the top 50 or even only top 30. Many make the mistake and buy very very cheap coins with a small market value, thinking those can still rise the most. But there are reasons why they are so low. If you stay away from them, you have a great chance to avoid scams.

Welcome to the bitcointalk forum. Seeking advice on which coin to invest in should be bitcoin and other top altcoins. You diversify your investment.
Investing in the long term means that you are patient enough to wait on what comes out from your investments in years to come. Don't invest in an amount you can't afford to lose. Anything can happen in crypto

Diversify your fund and don't invest in one coin. Bitcoin and Eth should be included in your investment. Both are for long term.
30% for Luna,Sol,Dot,ADA and Avax.

Don't buy any coin which are not listed on binance. You are new to crypto so I recommend you to buy only those coins which already available on binance.

Simply BTC, if you are really serious about finding opportunities and being safe from scam projects. When I see many new entrants to this market, they usually set very specific profit goals, but when it comes to buying and holding coins directly, the volatility in this market makes many people unable to maintain their own position. I find it important to have the basics to avoid making fundamental mistakes in the market.

Welcome to the forum, don't forget to learn about the rules and policies: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ

- I have an initial capital of $5000, what coin should I invest in for the long term?
Having this amount as initial for your investment. Please take time, don't just buy because someone has told you this and that. You study first as much as you can until you're too confident about what you must buy. But as a suggestion, start to study about bitcoin.

- How to avoid easy scam coins?
Invest to the top coins, you can use websites like coinmarketcap.com and coingecko.com.

Though it was stated above that you shouldn't rely on other suggestions regarding financial advice but here's my opinion regarding your questions.

Since you're talking about investment in the long term, choose a project that has been proven, tested, decentralized, and very volatile that has fast-moving in the market.  IMO, Bitcoin is the first choice and as others said, this potentially will have profit in a long term.

You should diversify into bitcoin some of the top altcoins.
Actually, for long-term investment plans, it is preferable to read the fundamental factors well rather than the volatility performance. However, you can also analyze their charts in recent years based on historical price and marketcap volumes in conclusion.

There is an unwritten rule in this community that you don't ask for financial advise because no one really knows how the market is going to move so no one can give you what coins to invest. Still based on your research. What we can do is to invest on the solid coins, in the top 1-20 and not on hype and shit and meme coins.

How to avoid scams? "If it's too good to be true, then probably is". Always use that philosophy.

Are you ready to lose this 5000$? If anything goes wrong can you move on and not be let down because of your money? This is why I warn newbies not to use money that they can't afford to lose on crypto investment, since you are knew to crypto BTC is the best one to start with.

We cannot give proper financial advises. You should not invest based on random people's advises. You should learn and understand what you're doing.
Also you're on a bitcoin and crypto forum, hence people will tell you why crypto is great Wink Just, again, make your own decision when investing.

Now to your questions. For newbies Bitcoin is basically the only proper solution because it's the least risky. But keep in mind, all crypto investments are risky. I cannot promise you that you'll be on profit in a week or a year from now. That's why one rule is to invest only money you afford to lose or keep locked for long time.
Historically an investment in Bitcoin was on profit in max 4 years. But Bitcoin is still young and history doesn't mean that much.

On the other hand, altcoins promise great profit, but on very long time they usually disappoint (compared to bitcoin). Also it's difficult to find really profitable ones, even for rather short periods.

So with Bitcoin you also avoid scam coins, as long as you are careful to get actual Bitcoin and not Bitcoin cash, bitcoin gold, wrapped bitcoin on ethereum network and other things with bitcoin in their name.

Three final advises:
1. Make sure you buy from established and reputable platforms to minimize the chances to get scammed.
2. Take a close look at the platform requirements and fees, especially at the KYC requirements (if it's a KYC platform and you are OK to give your details, you may want to pass the entire process before your money is locked in there for whatever problems) and the trade and withdrawal fees.
3. Make sure you read and understand how to hold your coins safely. You may want to acquire a hardware wallet for your coins. Crypto is very easy to be stolen. Also keep in mind to always double check thoroughly the addresses you send/withdraw coins to (because copy/paste viruses can easily trick you into sending money to scammers).

I hope that this is informative for you and I didn't scare you too much Smiley
Thank you for your advice, it is useful advice for me when I am new to the crypto market, I will consider and learn how to invest safely, manage my capital in the best way.

Be careful of that $5k crypto is a good field of investment but id you dont have enough knowledge on it even the basic one that budget of yours could end up to 0 as many factors to give you a good recommendation for investment and it has a very big risk. Make sure that money isnt your hard earned money or if it was hope you are ready for a huge gamble in trading crypto.

Regarding scam we have a section for that here where you can check out some posted coins and tokens.
