Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- Newbies cannot upload their own avatars.
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

What is PM?

It took waaayyy too long to find this thread... would have been out of the 'newbie' stage weeks ago if I knew there was a point to being logged in while browsing the site

Aw 4 hours online! In the stickied post it says '4 hours on the forum.' What crap! I need to reply to thread that talk about my app! Now I have to sit here and not let my session expire for 3 more hours....

... I feel ya, I am now wishing I had been logged in for the countless hours I have been on here in the last few weeks. Oh well, whats another 4 hours :/

Does time refer to the "Total time logged in" that appears in the upper left corner?

Strange enough, but you can also get restricted again... I guess someone might have deleted a topic I responded , causing my # of posts to drop from 6 to 4 yesterday.
Anyone else had similar experience? This should not happen IMHO.

Cheers,

Sounds fair enough. Was wondering why my account was still restricted but my total login time is still less than 4 hours.

It took me a while to realize that I can't post and send PM's. I thought I need to wait for a Mod to get verified to post or something.

newbie restrictions are really annoying. it would be at least be useful to allow posting and mark posts as pending or something for newbies. at least then you don't have to waste time in the newbie forum

I don't think dedicated trolls are going to be stopped by this but at least it will slow them down a little.

The explanations here make sense, but it still doesn't tell me why I've been here for weeks and still don't have the 4 hours required...  I guarantee you that I have more than the 4 hours at this point reading threads and such.  Now time spent posting might be below that, but other than making spammy-ish posts, I really don't have that much to say that I can fill up 4 hours with posting...

Look in the upper left corner.  It tells you how much time you have spent on the site.  I am up to 2 hours 11 minutes.
