Posted a request for preemptive whitelisting but still nothing. Any1 know how long it usually takes? Seems the only way is to post several posts and get the status required.  Undecided

Restrictions sound reasonable, I hate all forms of spam, and trolling is the lowest form.

These restrictions were added after I had first joined the board, so I never got the instructions when I first signed up... Spent hours trying to figure out why I could no longer post...

I'm guessing it takes a while to get a white listing, so best to go through the newbie restrictions rather than wait for a white listing?

I've been looking for a way how to reply from a psot since yesterday.  Thanks, I ended up on this thread.  Now I knew I'm a newbie.  It seemed I am not the only one.  Smiley

Understandable, but slightly tedious having to make random (useless) posts  Wink

I agree with others that it's sensible but annoying.

I understand, but it seems there should be a better way - some sort of multiple authentication - that can applied.

I have been a Bitcoin user since May and have followed many of the ups and downs.  The whole wallet.dat security is very interesting and I have been working on my own wallet.dat security procedure for the last several weeks.  I finally feel comfortable enough to start testing it with a small amount of BTC.  There is certainly a lot of misinformation floating around about the best security procedures for your wallet.  It took me quite a while to sift through all the security advice on the forum to develop my own procedure.  The whole wallet security thing is not for the inexperienced.  Bitcoin is on the digital frontier and like all frontiers there are risks.  The best perspective, I believe, is to think of Bitcoin as the Wild West.  There are villains, gun slingers, con artists, thieves, crooks, and some good guys, too.  Bitcoin is not for the timid or the novice in internet and data security.

I like the idea of restrictions, until they are applied to me.

Since it seems like everybody has to post in this thread, I thought I'd leave this here rather than start a new thread.

As this is the de facto forum for bitcoin discussion, this policy actively discourages what should be a growing bitcoin community. I've read this forum a decent amount before I even tried to register, and limiting people like this prevents bitcoin from growing amongst the general populace in order to protect a select few forum members from trolls.

It's downright ironic that the first poster in this thread was a very informed woman that is a value to the bitcoin community who seems to have been driven off of these forums by outright irrational hostility and misogyny from a consistent poster as opposed to any deliberate troll. That's better trolling than anybody else could imagine and it comes from a person who is still a member here. Unbelievable.
