It could be that forum users think of higher ranking users as already proven as good posters so they give Merits. As for newbie accounts they probably have to try a little bit harder to earn their first Merit.
In most situations, i think the reverse applies. Higher ranking users are expected to have more knowledge on certain cryptocurrency topics (this is not always the case, but mostly is), and so they are judged using a much higher bench mark than newbie accounts. New members to the forum can be merited for showing genuine curiosity and willingness to learn. The fact that there are lots of newbies who spam the forum makes it a lot easier as it is relatively easy to spot the good posters.

To rank up, one has to put in the effort, this is an online forum and you are judged by the content you put out. Be constructive, do thorough research and be willing to learn.

True. As I said, I didn't pay that much attention about the ranking of a user that I send Merit to. I wrote that because @santosmichael said that newbies have to try harder to earn their first Merit. As for me, if I see a useful post, I will merit it (if I have sMerits at that time). It doesn't matter if a user is Newbie or Legendary.

A similar topic has already caused controversy more than once at the very beginning of the implementation of the merit system.
But as practice shows even now, high-ranking forum members are very willing to measure newcomers if they really deserve it (and sometimes even when not).
No need to strain and set a goal to earn merit at any cost, it’s better to relax and enjoy learning and talking on the forum. In this case, merit will come to you naturally.

Newcomers at first after many problems But gradually they also became much more efficient Airdrops are doing a lot of scams now It would be better to join the grace campaign. But you need qualifications before you can join the grace campaign So first try to qualify without thinking about earning and analyze different places. Post nice and helpful Doesn't post any spamming or copy If anyone benefits from your post then of course you can qualify Stay active in the forum and try to post good quality.

My advise to you on the last question is to work hard and earn merits. when you have enough merits. move to the service sections to join bounty payments that pays in ethereum and bitcoins. this the only sure way to earn a penny here. do not listen or join any airdrop activities here because it is a business for some scam people.

Yes, some airdrops didnt have value at all, and i ever got scammed too..
Anyway thank for advice, sir.
For me i will slowly to increases activity as long merit to join bounty payment as you explain...

What is that they are not understanding? It is as simple as anyone can understand. Post on this forum to increase the activity and earn merit by the forum members for the quality post and rank based on the merit and activities achieved.

As you said, some people are going here and there and not focused on what they are doing, and not reading the pinned posts in the forum is making them not understand anything.

And if you are actually looking for earning in this forum, first read and post good content and increase your rank. Later join some signature campaigns and look for some bounty programs to earn from that.

There are so many similar posts like that asking about how to make money here and how to acquire merits but everything has been compiled but they keep on ignoring those pinned messages, newbies should just read a lot of information instead of asking, these forum is already ten years old, and there are no lack of information about how this forum works.

True. Users are so lazy to read few pages/topics in Beginners & Help section, rules and use search, so they create same topics and complain how difficult ranking system really is...These users only see forum as a source of income, but not knowledge...

Theymos should make new users to pass test while registering an account. First they should read forum rules and ranking system, then pass the test and their account will be created.

if you are the type of person who is curious, you will definitely find and read "help" at the top of the forum.
Every thread is usually pinned about what are the restrictions and are allowed to be posted.
even there are many guides in this forum if you want to look for it

My best advice for other newbies like myself is not to think too much about activity and merits, instead focus on learning more about this forum and contribute what you can, the more you do this the better you will become very familiar with the forum and you will be able to understand better

Just make merit and activity as a bonus for your effort since you will need this after you learn something here, And hope you read Lauda's created thread since it can help newbies to navigate on what you need to do and what things you need to lean here check this https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/newbies-read-before-posting-1689727

And the one most important thing that how are we gonna earn from here???

We all hope that your recent browsing activities in the forum thought you also to read the pinned thread carefully and give it an attention. It doesnt seem you are here to learn nor to educate as you first intend to somehow give an attention on flaws of other newbies and explicitly asked how to earn.. Man, greed is not a good motivation here in forum. A week or 2, you'll see urself giving up if u focused on earning..

I think from now on rather than talking about earning attempt to learn something by analyzing different places using your skills and knowledge. study this forum first then believe earning Qualification is what you get on your skills you're right. There are many sites within the forum to extend the rank attempt to learn patiently Read different sites Read the posts well you'll benefit tons from this and you'll easily realize the forum.

It's all about the rank system. Each rank have it's own requirements (amount of merit and activity). The activity is what you earn when you post in any thread on any board. Each merit is from any forum user that send you a merit because of your post. A total of activity you can earn is 14 within 2 weeks. The activity points doesn't really mean you are very active on the forum. Take a look at some accounts where they have so many post count but less activity points they have. Read more i'm sure you'll understand more about it.

I am here on this forum the last day and observing alot of things that how are the things gonna work, how to do the things and what to do. So there are 3 kinds of newbies,
1. Keen to explore the things.
2. Just going here and there, and getting nothing
3. Left because they are not getting understand

There are one more category that comes only to spam and the moderators will ban them off. Only the first category will survive. Along with exploring the activity and merit, please explore the forum rules: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/unofficial-list-of-official-bitcointalkorg-rules-guidelines-faq-703657

All the best to you and it is great to know that your are exploring from the basis.

I'm also a newbie. and the one that disturbs my mind regarding merit is,

there is a member who ranks newbie answers quite clearly accompanied by links and screenshoot, but does not get merit ,,
but there are high ranking members like heroes and senior members, they answer clearly too, tend to be comments, but they get merit,

are there certain considerations related to this ?  Undecided
sometimes this makes the newbie who has tried to give a good answer but feels disappointed to see how easy the member ranking above is in getting merit compared to newbie members.  Cry

I dare you to give us examples. Prove it. It's the typical crappy "OnLy HiGh RaNk mEmBeRs ReCeiVe MeRiT" excuse that's mostly made by people who doesn't know crap about Bitcoin hence couldn't receive any merits.

Actually if anything, I give merit less to the high ranks because my sMerits are always really low.

I didn't notice that higher ranking users get their posts merited more often than newbies. But I'm not paying too much attention to that so maybe you are right. As for reasons... It could be that forum users think of higher ranking users as already proven as good posters so they give Merits. As for newbie accounts they probably have to try a little bit harder to earn their first Merit. That could be because there is a lot of newbie accounts that are just shitposting and spamming. But after you earn your first Merot it should become easier because you won't be a newbie any more.

Hello mate welcome to this forum, I hope you will live longer in this forum as what says on number 1 becausthat is the right thing to do among those 3 beginners in this forum.
1. Activity is somehow increases upon participating in his forum, whenever you created post your activity also increases but there are time that it doesn't count.
2. Merit can get through the help of others, when you created post that is useful and helpful, they may give you merit because of that.
3. Merit and Activity are required to be ranked up.

Btw, you don't get paid here for each and every post you make as in cryptotalk, unless you are accepted in a campaign.

Well said, but before you joined the campaign you need to apply first on their thread and you should do whatever requirement they have said.

just work hard so member's can see your effort  to make a constructive reply for every topic.

Since it's not moderated every member are freely to choose where or whose member they want to give their smerit.

There are also many newbies receive more merit than high ranked members that stock in their rank.

Merit is not moderated, so it can be easily given, sometimes as a way of a thumb up or an agreement. That said, personal emotion and judgement contribute a lot on merit distribution. Anyway, if you see any good posts of you or anyone else that have been overlooked, you can report it to this thread: [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source. You will be reviewed and awarded accordingly.

No, that is the least most important thing here. If you're not here to read, learn, understand and contribute... and just want "EARN EASY MONEYS NOW!!!111!11!!!1!" then you are in the wrong place and likely to get scammed and/or very frustrated and discouraged. Roll Eyes

No that's not what he should do. This forum should not be only a ladder that you're climbing with a prize of a bounty campaign waiting on top.

If that's all that you want you better think twice about what you came here for.

I'm not saying bounties are bad or that you should not join a campiagn but registering on the forum and trying to get merit because there are campaigns is not the right approach.

So these are the most common problems for the newbies.
And the one most important thing that how are we gonna earn from here???

^This aren't really important if you are just here to learn about Bitcoin itself. Essentially you only need to reach the Jr. Member rank to get all the features needed (image being shown in your post) and it just takes 6 weeks and a merit for you to be ranked a Jr. Member. I wouldn't really worry about this at all since they aren't really related to Bitcoin itself but rather the forum's ranking system. If I were you I'll just start reading thread and try to learn and be part of that conversation so that you could start learning.

Some of the above member have given you important links. All the information you get when you read those threads. Newbie thinks like cryptotalk, here too can be earned on every post. But this is your misconception. Try to read all the rules and do something good to rank up. Because it's not easy to rank up here, it's very difficult.

Hi, welcome to the forum

What is Merit?
Merit is a reward from other members who appreciate your post if they think your post is deserve to get merit. Your post should be constructive, informative and high quality. If you only spam, you will never get merit.

What is Activity?
Activity means how active you in this forum. You can only get 14 activity maximum for 14 days. The purpose of activity is prevent from burst post and spam to order in rank up only

To more understand about merit and activity you can read here FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit

Here are the rank in bitcointalk, you need requirement both activity and merit to rank up
RankRequired activityRequired merit

Jr Member301
Member6010
Full Member120100
Sr. Member240250
Hero Member480500
LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000

For me, you don't need to think too much about the activity and merit. Just contribute what you can and what you enjoy to this forum. I believe your activity and merit can increase slowly if you keep create high quality post and contributing each day.

If you keep thinking about that, you only make it complicated and never start contribute. I really recommend you to read this What is Quality post really ? . Never forget to contribute and active in this forum

And the one most important thing that how are we gonna earn from here???

Unlike cryptotalk, only need 100 post requirement to earn 1000 satoshi on next post (maximum 30 post/day) this forum have signature campaign and bounty campaign. But signature campaign usually must in rank member or full member above, so you should rank up first. Or you can join bounty campaign (bounty usually accept newbies) but I don't recommend it, its not worth it, you only get shitcoin only.

You can also offering your service in service discussion to get payed in bitcoin or other altcoin
Thanks for sharing this useful information with us and i am new here on this site. I just joined this site. I was working on crypto talk.

I do not agree with you. A fairly large number of newcomers who came to the forum immediately create a topic with the questions listed above, and they, oddly enough, within a few hours receive complete instructions with all links to topics that provide answers to these basic questions. Therefore, a topic with such links is always on the first page of the section.

Most likely they backtrack on the need to make efforts in order to delve into the features of the systems built on the forum, but this is the price of joining the community.
Those people who pass this test will join the forum community and be accepted in it, the rest will naturally remain on the sidelines.

Indeed, there are different kinds of beginner in this forum and the number 1 is the greatest one compared to 2 and 3. As a beginner, you should know that everything will be hard for you because you are not yet familiar, so do not give up, do not let this things let you quit from participating in this forum because if you quit you will never succeed. Having struggles is normal especially for the beginners but if you all overpass it, you will see how goo you have done.

1. Actually I don't know much about activity but sometimes it increasses depends on your posts.
2. Merit is really important in this forum, it will show how good are you in this forum.
3. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/faq-everything-you-need-to-know-about-forum-activity-account-ranks-and-merit-2766177 you may visit this link.

On the other hand, I want to remind you that this is not cryptotalk. Totally different from cryptotalk, and very hard to rank up here if you think it's a forum like cryptotalk. So first give the pressure on learning before earning. Good Luck
Indeed, I have tried the cryptotalk and most of the posts on that forum is all about earning money, they keep on asking on how they will earn from the forum, there is no some useful information you can read from that forum which is really different from this forum. You should mind first how are you going to learn things from here not how are you going to earn money.

As i had experience with the other forums too like Cryptotalk and now i am on Bitcointalk where things are too much different as on Cryptotalk its pretty easy while on bitcointalk ot complex, so i am still learning about this forum, the problem i am facing here are followings,
1. What is activity
2. What is merit
3. What is the criteria of rank system

1. Activity is pretty much what it says, it increases slowly by participating in the forum (i.e. posting) but the progress is capped by rank in order to curb abuse such as burst-posting or spamming in order to rank up.
2. Merits are like upvote points which are given out to contructive or informative posts. Both merit and activity go hand-in-hand with the ranking up here. So for instance if you earn 1 Merit, you become a Junior Member but you have to accrue 42 Activity points beforehand for the rank up to take place. For every 2 Merits you receive, you earn 1 sMert (sendable Merit) which is used to Merit another user's post.
3. Pretty much explained in points 1 and 2. However rank also plays a major role in unlocking certain forum privileges, such as expanded signature space, formatting and joining signature campaigns

Actually there's a sticky on the above posted @ https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/faq-everything-you-need-to-know-about-forum-activity-account-ranks-and-merit-2766177 which is more elaborative.

And the one most important thing that how are we gonna earn from here???

Joining solely to earn is greatly frowned upon, because it basically forces you to post just for the sake of posting without actually contributing anything useful. A good example is repeating whatever that has been said by other posters before you.

However after you've spent some time here, you might come across paid signature campaigns which basically pay you to post.

If you'd like to earn, contribute to the discussions, be helpful and you'll get Merits along the way. Once you've reached the required rank (some campaigns start accepting from Members onwards), you could apply if there are slots available.

I am here on this forum the last day and observing alot of things that how are the things gonna work, how to do the things and what to do. So there are 3 kinds of newbies,
1. Keen to explore the things.
2. Just going here and there, and getting nothing
3. Left because they are not getting understand
I have seen many threads but no one has explained it in easy ways.
So these are the most common problems for the newbies.
And the one most important thing that how are we gonna earn from here???
