I would vote for Feathercoin for those who would enjoy discovering a few blocks themselves. It might never grow as big as Litecoin, which is what I am mining currently, but still the thrill of finding a block. Of anything really, it's indescribable. At least the first couple of times Cheesy

I reckon bitcoins will always be number 1, litecoins will take off next and then terracoins.

I agree. In my opinion, bitcoins will be number one for a long time...

The next big crypto currency is actually ... bitcoin!

Yes, that's right, as bitcoin becomes more known it starts to gain infrastructure, merchant solutions etc. The altcoins are mostly me-too products that offer no real benefit over the original, except for a small interest group. What miners like is irrelevant in the long run when the currency moves into what it was supposed to be - a real medium of exchange - and not a free-money get rich quick scheme which is the miner's focus.

I know this isn't a popular view, but it's what needs to happen if crypto currencies is to ever make it into the mainstream.

Can't see Terracoin taking off - difficulty scaling is retarded.

Ok, so picture this... you invested in said ASIC, let the company build a device that when you finally got your hands on it you damn near convulsed. (That is how these ASIC boys are) They have invested how much into BFL and Avalon? Does anyone care to see what the interest is on that many million for simply sitting in the bank? How many presold BFL have? Do the math.

I will get back on topic. The said Alt coins that will accept ASIC will be the next for them. GPU's still be here. You would hard pressed to find a person in the world who does not game, or know a die hard gamer themselves.

I'm sorry to say folks, but gaming is the entire reason the internet is where it is. Who the hell you think makes the GPU's for Consoles? Let me rephrase that.. porn is the biggest bandwidth consumer. LOL regardless.. GPU's fuel this fire... either get on, or buy a hunk that won't do sheat other than mint BTC or another alt coin, and let them hold you money for 2 years.

 Do you need more explanation?

I personally imagine that litecoin will be the next big cryptocurrency, atleast for GPU miners. As the ASICs ship out the difficulty will soar and miners using GPUs will move on, likely to the next biggest cryptocurrency, being litecoin. Although, people with FPGAs will be unable to mine litecoin due to the fact that it uses scrypt and as a result it is likely that, if they wish to continue mining, they will move their miners onto one of the other SHA-256 based cryptocurrencies, such as PPCoin and Terracoin.

Based on that.. one should take their GPU farm there before the asics come as you already did that... Smiley

That's a grand idea and a solid point.  I've been mining LTC 100% for a few months now, waiting for the big boys to show up....

I think that it would be something (maybe does not exist yet), that allows people with higher-end laptops to be able to use it... and make a profit. I think bit coins popularity with the average person will begin to die out as they find out that there computers have no hope with competing the terahash/s machines that are starting to be created. With machines like this, I believe bit coin mining will become unenjoyable for the average person.

But the point here isn't really what most enjoyable/profitable to mine, it's really what CC can find widespread adoption in mass markets.  BTC/LTC make sense to me in that regard (LTC more than BTC, but that's a technicality in my opinion), but I can't decide on a third.  Do we even need a third?

litecoin will probably be the go to choice for all GPU users looking for a better cut.

But for small timers using the acis usbminer or 2 and jalapeno btl machines, PPcoin looks like the the better choice versus trying to battle the powerhouses.
