This looks like a lost battle even before we started. Lets start from somewhere, I just created a thread were we (not just Nigerians but Africans) can hangout and discuss general issue and issue relating to blockchain. Maybe if the thread becomes active enough we can mobilize ourselves and request for a board.

Here's the link to the thread: African bitcointalk community hangout

I also started a signature campaign but so far most participants are volunteers. Interested user can apply.

According to Wikipedia, English is the primarily spoken language in Nigeria, however there are over 500 other languages spoken in Nigeria.

As hilariousandco pointed out, the local subs are primarily a means for people to speak their language, and if you speak English, you can post in the main boards.

What would having a "Nigerian" local thread add to your community? How many people would you say would participate in a Nigeria local thread, and how many people from Nigeria are around here? If possible, provide some kind of evidence to back up your answers to my last question.
With your research 500 other languages are spoken in Nigeria because Nigeria is a welcoming country and Nigeria is the gaint of Africa. But, aside of English pidgin is the next common language spoken in Nigeria.
Nigeria local thread can add to this community have forgotten the statement made by the Binance boss that Africa will be the  future of crypto.
How many people do you think would participate in such a thread?
I don't know and you don't know either but we can't use the current status of a thing to calculate the promising future.

We have over 50+ active Nigerians on this forum, i can tell that by just reading their replies (we have a unique way of writing sometimes we mix the pidgin english into normal english. This board we're asking for won't be only for Nigerians but an identity for Africans. From just this two threads i started titled The used of Bitcoin in Africa and Africa isn't poor - Africa is being raped. i have notice many Nigerians and Africans just from thier replies and also gotten PMs from many of them. With the local boards many continent have where to unite and identify themselves with their local languages but we don't. If we can get a board, we will sort the rest things out ourselves maybe by creating threads for each unique languages.

Apologies for not having followed up on this. I found a couple of interesting bits in the dustbin that came with my scrap computer clearance. There is a Butterfies Labs Bitforce SC Orion ASIC miner, and an EVGA 1200 P2 psu. Unfortunately there aren't any cables, so I've been doing a bit of research. I want to explore ASIC mining, but I don't think it is profitable any more, so I'm trying to reuse some free stuff. Smiley

Let me know if I need to do anything urgently to support you Nigerian guys.

It's empty at the moment, as I only set it up yesterday, and I'm not sure what to post there.

If somebody wants to start a decent Pidgin thread about Bitcoin in Africa, and we can translate it into English for posting in the Political or another board in Bitcoin Talk,

Here is a thread started by me, Used of Bitcoin in Africa in pidgin

Posting both in English and Pidgin in the same board would become cumbersome if you are discussing about blockchain development in Africa

Remember it is a tuition forum, so it doesn't have the same rules and structure as Bitcoin Talk.

A post could be made in Pidgin, and an English translation could be added to the post as a quote. As long as the structure was consistent, it wouldn't be too difficult to follow, readers could skip either the quotes or the posts. It would be interesting for those of us who would like to understand Pidgin and its origins.

Could you make it easier for assessment by including the link to the thread?

If somebody wants to start a decent Pidgin thread about Bitcoin in Africa, and we can translate it into English for posting in the Political or another board in Bitcoin Talk, then I will guarantee at least 5 merits. It will need to be a quality post though, and follow all the BT rules.

@JC you can keep a local rule such that  the common English is allowed in the main African board and you could create a child board like "Regional Languages (Africa)" for discussing things in Pidgin,  Afrikaans and other regional African languages? Just my idea.

I want to start a Fit to Talk English thread for the best posts about the use of Bitcoin in Africa. 5 merits for the best ones. Post would need to be in Pidgin and include an English translation. Now where can I start a thread about that. The translation could be by another member of course.

If there exists a lot of Nigerians and Africans in this forum and there are considerable development of blockchain technology in Africa then there should be a separate board created for them. I assume Pidgin and Africaans are more commonly spoken in major parts of Africa. May be theymos can create a board for Africa and create a child board such as "Regional Languages (Africa)". The African people would communicate in Pidgin and Africaans in the main board and other minor languages in child board. This is just my assumption.

Local boards are for non-English speaking languages and Africa is a continent with many different languages.
...snip...
Those countries all have their own specific language. Nigeria is a mostly English speaking country as far as I'm aware. Again, local boards aren't really for specific regions but actual languages.
I don't think the local boards works that way. If we consider the Indian Board, people seem to be communicating only in English and other language topics are being posted in Regional Languages (India) child board and Google says English and Hindi are the national languages of India. But India has a separate board, assuming the Indians need one to discuss the ongoing issues in their country. Similarly why don't we have one for Africa if there exist a demand for such a board? I still cannot support the need for a separate board if there aren't much Africans supporting the application.

Might it help theymos to get one suitable moderator from the list of users.
If the board isn't much active there is no need to hire a dedicated moderator. If a separate board is created for Africa, people can report bad posts and global mods would take care of that. If the spams increase at a larger rate, then theymos might look into it.

You have to be a Senior (or maybe Hero to create a thread in there).

Don't know how true this is because i haven't seen topics started by users of recent i only see replies. Mpamaegbu you're a snr member, can you confirm if you can start a thread on the Other languages/locations also any higher rank user seeing this thread can you just confirm if it's still possible to start a thread there. If it's possible then i suggest a higher rank user from Nigeria should start the "Nigeria Bitcoin community thread" there we can communicate and connect with one another and maybe use pidgin as official language.

e go make sense die if we fit join heads together make naija get voice small for this forum with this step other African brothers and sisters go collaborate

Just to add Nigerians has a huge population in fact Nigeria is the most populous black nation in the world.. And the adding of Nigeria board would motivate other countries and about the pidgin English some other countries in West Africa can relate to it so other African countries can get involved in the board

You can't use pidgin post, because the pidgins avoid the captcha.
Really? Well, I guess this is an interesting angle. But when did we begin to have captchas to post? I don't know how it works for others but I just click on post and pronto, it's posted.

please are we getting the local board for Nigerian or is it a No. i think we deserve this even if it can be added in the option, local/other language and location will be preferable. at least give us a voice. we can do better there. Nigeria remains the giant of Africa. always on the look out for technology and latest inventions. please give us a voice here. we can communicate to our own understanding just like other. PLEASE Note: ENGLISH is an official language NOT a mother tongue. some of us sucks when writing and speaking. we can do much better in our locals.

Personally I hve tried to do that but it wasn't successful because i notice users can't start thread on the Other language/location board any more (don't know the reason though).
