I think the current situation is good as it is: local boards based on important global languages and not countries. What would you do with countries like Belgium or Switzerland or Austria etc. which have several official languages? Would you add Catalan or Basque or any of the other regional languages for Spain? Etc.

Looks like a bad idea, cause it would lead to hundreds of discussions threads (like this one) about languages, regions and countries which may be interesting to many but are completely irrelevant to crypto.

You have to be a Senior (or maybe Hero to create a thread in there). Not all local boards need mods either, especially if they're not that active.

A better route to having a board may be to take @hilariousandco's advise. Starting a thread in 'other languages' entirely with pidgin English if it gets popular, then a plea for a local board can be made.

Personally I hve tried to do that but it wasn't successful because i notice users can't start thread on the Other language/location board any more (don't know the reason though).
About moderators, I don't think theymos will find it difficult to find one. We have many Nigerians on this forum and most of them are very active, I spent close to 5hrs daily on the platform I won't mind moderatoring the board and if I don't do it right, I can be removed and someone else will be appointed.

I agree that pidgin English is clearly distinct from other English language in different parts.A better route to having a board may be to take @hilariousandco's advise. Starting a thread in 'other languages' entirely with pidgin English if it gets popular, then a plea for a local board can be made.

A local board is not wholely about the different language but the ability of people from a certain region to connect and feel included.

I don't see the need for it. I'll just repost what I said in another thread requesting an African board:

Local boards are for non-English speaking languages and Africa is a continent with many different languages. We don't need a board for Africa like we don't need one for Europe or Asia. If you want to create one for a specific African language then you can do so in 'other languages' and if it's sufficiently popular then maybe you'll get your own sub eventually.

OK but so many countries in Europe and Asia has there board for example Italy, china, Germany but no African countries not even one is one the list. So I was just speculating if it hard to make one individual African  country on the list they can be grouped to regions

I would like a Nigerian board I can volunteer my time if needed. We have a general language called "pidgin enlish" it's quite understood by every one in Nigeria and in so many part of west africa

Those countries all have their own specific language. Nigeria is a mostly English speaking country as far as I'm aware. Again, local boards aren't really for specific regions but actual languages. If you want to create one for your Pidgin language then you can do so here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=11.0 but I don't think it would be very popular.

I also support the idea of local boards because it will help the user of Nigeria to discuss the things in their board internally but theymos responsibility did not end just after creating the board, he need to find the moderators also.

@OP, I guess you can start a application in which user can claim they require Nigerian board. It will be interesting to know how many users are pitching for this board. Might it help theymos to get one suitable moderator from the list of users.

I have nothing against the idea for such board to exist but isn't the official language of Nigeria English?

I've just checked the board index, and it doesn't specify "Local language", it just states "local". In view of the special circumstances surrounding the growth of crypto in Africa, I agree that a special interest board, regardless of language, would be a useful addition. It may be that there should be a South American one as well.

What would be the point to have such board, all the talks would still be quite the same?
I know you guys have some serious amount of beautiful dialects there and as a result, demands for separate dialect-boards will emerge rather sooner than later. That would require some extra staff and effort on forum moderation behalf so don't be surprised if admin rejects your request, just because of this argument alone. Nevertheless the more the merrier Smiley
Oh! Come on. Don't be such a kill joy. There are three major dialects in Nigeria (of course other countries have their different dialects too) but trust me, everyone would be contended staying under one board here. English is the official Language but Nigeria has its unique Pidgin English almost as a second language across the country.

I gave you a merit for the suggestion, although I think you are asking for a local board and not a  thread. I'm not sure about the "pidgin" English bit though. Smiley

I'd like to expand the suggestion to include other African countries. There are some special economic problems in a few of the African countries at the moment, and it may be interesting to consolidate them onto one discussion board. I believe that Africa will become increasingly important in the world of crypto, and it would be useful to encourage its growth there, and for those of us in the west to gain some understanding of the changes.

As a Nigerian i can't say no to this. Even if we can't get our own local board, the Other languages/locations board should be opened to new topic so user who don't have local boards especially africa countries can make use of it. I have sent PM to board moderator asking why board was locked and if it can be reopened but got no reply.

Africa is one of the continent embracing the blockchain technology, theymos please look into this issue. Give some Africa language (country) a board  especially Nigeria or reopen Other languages/locations so we can start new topics.

I think it's about time this forum created a board for Nigerians in its local portfolio. Nigerians are hardworking and energetic people with interest in lots of modern tech stuff, cryptocurrency inclusive. I know there are lots of Nigerians here and it will be wonderful aggregating them to help push crypto talks further down home. Also, our pidgin English flavour is something to savour when Nigerians communicate.

I crave the indulgence of the Admins and Theymos in particular to help make this a reality.

I am a proud Nigerian - One love my peeps!
