But can they really avoid paying taxes without facing legal consequences? I mean, we all know taxes are essential for a government to function, so not paying them is like skipping your contribution to what’s owed. Sure, the government may be corrupt, but not paying taxes isn’t the answer. There’s a saying, you can’t fix a wrong with another wrong.
You’re right, two wrongs can’t make a right and with the concept of citizens lacking the due money to pay what might be the outcome. Although we all know the government can’t allocate a tax fee without knowing the ability of the organization or little business secondly this is enough reason everyone should pay their due tax but, looking at    the economy of few countries you’ll know the common man no longer live comfortable likewise the business growth. Definitely government still benefit aside the dark stories they’re a lot of business doing great so at this point they should pay their tax, gambling keeps growing daily and it’s obvious this decision can’t affect their growth due to the large population.
government seems gambling websites or company of way of making money and if government will allow other businesses to work freely but gambling I don't think that government can allow it to operate freely, so gambling especially casino have their own tax they paid to any country government they establish before they can be allowed to operate, because taking tax from them is like way of boasting the country economy, so you can see gambling platforms operate in a country openly when they have done the needful to the government of the country. Except that they chose to be operate illegal and operating illegally will make them not have much traffic

Taxation is something that a citizen needs not to be reminded by the government before doing the needful because when you pay your tax you will have the right to speak up when you think the government is not using the money to do what is expected of them.
Definitely not when the same government that’s meant to be protecting you, turns around to extort you via taxation and revenues, all in the name of what? Performing you Civil duties. Give me a fucking break because That’s bullshit...  or definitely not when you’ve been paying tax for as long as you can remember and yet there’s absolutely nothing to show for it. And when you sit to calculate just how much you’ve paid out for tax, and then how much every other persons who are also willing to perform their civil duties has also paid out to tax and still, not a fucking thing to show for it. Personally, I’d definitely be skeptical about this taxation shit, cos it’s become another way to enrich the greedy and bloodthirsty politicians who are out to milk The Whole citizens dry.

The reason why most Nigerians hate to pay tax is because they have perceived the system to be so corrupt up to the extent that they don't want to contribute their penny to fattening the pockets of those few politicians, but even as that, it's better that the country have enough revenue to keep the economy running, let it be that those in power are the ones looting it, than for everyone to hate the tax system and don't pay at all and allow the system to collapse. Any industry that generates money should always be levied to pay their tax.
Taxation in Nigerian ( and I believe in other Countries too) is unavoidable, so whether or not Nigerians like or are in support of how the revenues are spent, they’ll still need to pay their taxes after all as tax evasion is a crime and punishable by the law. So the citizens I believe don’t have more or less of a choice in this particular subject matter. But yeah you’re right, it’s better for the citizens to first perform their civil duties to avoid the state of ewo ewo  Grin Grin Grin, let the fault only come from the greedy politicians who choose to loot and embezzle public funds.

Taxation is something that a citizen needs not to be reminded by the government before doing the needful because when you pay your tax you will have the right to speak up when you think the government is not using the money to do what is expected of them.

Directly or indirectly I believe most of the citizens of Nigeria is paying tax this is because some companies country uses the Pay As You Earn method so your tax is directly already deducted before paying you any one salary. Tax is on e of the civil duty of a citizen so whether the government is bad or not it shouldn't stop people from paying ta.

Yet another government wanting to extract taxes from the population for its own benefit, now they will use the argument that it's to prevent the population from becoming addicted, but we all know that this is just another attempt to obtain resources from the population. Governments act the same all over the world, although there are economic differences, countries that are more corrupt, less corrupt, but the essence of governments doesn't change: their parasitic and predatory nature.
The government and its agencies just get to do what they have to do to make sure that they generate enough money from the earning population in order to keep the system running.

There is no where that we don't have corrupt government, but they should at least be doing something, meaning that will cover up those corrupt acts. If there is something to show forth for the tax they collect from their sources, I don't think there will be much disagreement and debate about whether it's right to tax gamblers or not, but because a higher percentage of the revenue is embezzled, that's where the problem starts.

do you think it is good for the government to still be planning imposing tax on gambling? there are gamblers who still gamble for fun in the country, will imposing a tax on it not push this people closer to depression as some may find it difficult to gamble comfortably.

If the government decided to begin taxing gambling websites, that might be a good initiative but I doubt if corruption will not undermine everything. We can see that the country is in a big mess and the inflation keeps increasing due to the bad government that can swallowed the good thing each citizen suppose benefit from the government. Every gambler must understand that tax helps the government in providing more adequate basic amenities for the citizens but in a case where nothing is provided, maybe running away from tax could be a short but the consequences might be a little bit severe paying everything you had eaten.

Well, that's exactly what I think and maybe that's also the reason why some people prefer to avoid paying taxes especially in Nigeria, if citizens there think this way as you said that it is always difficult to find solutions to economic problems then surely they will also think that paying taxes will not change the situation, and maybe they also think that paying taxes will only make officials richer. But if we think from another perspective, then it is also possible that the government's goal in imposing taxes on gambling is to change the country's condition for the better through the tax funds donated, but I will only believe it if everything is done transparently.
Due to some trust issues then i coudlnt really be able to blame out some citizens to be thinking up this way specially if they are wary about that corruption is really just that
too much into their country then this is why they would really be that doing their best on not to pay up any taxes just because they've been thinking up that way that those taxes wont
really be applied that well on where it should really be that applied. Even into those first world countries on which there would really be some tendencies that citizens would really be
able to avoid on paying up taxes but we do know that everything we do like buying up goods or dealing up with some services and other stuffs are already taxed. Same goes when you do
get your paycheck then tax is already that deducted and this is why there's no way that we could really be able to avoid.

Not just that, sometimes, it's even possible to avoid certain taxes through some means, and even if you're entitled to pay those taxes, you'll be able to legally avoid paying them and no one would force you to pay them. Some tax laws in Nigeria ( don't know about other countries) often have a few loopholes and if your lawyer is smart enough to identify these loopholes, then he might just give you a few possible ways to legally avoid certain unnecessary taxation. So yes, at some point, the citizens have a choice.

Well Nigeria has many advantages with regard to tax rates , things probably happen so that they can evade some taxes, so I can understand that taxes are not mandatory and there are many ways to evade, and if that is so that is what matters, I have seen that Nigeria apart from now having an accelerated growth of casino players, because there is a large Nigerian Community that really likes gambling and sports betting, these types of countries should never charge taxes , business models should not be open to everyone, in part it is a business that employs and Produces money , so they can grow more as a country.

I think even in the first world countries, there are complains like this that they're not getting what they deserve. It means that it's a global problem and all we have to do is to focus on ourselves and do whatever we can do to make ourselves better. Because whether there is or there is no government, it is us that shall make our lives predict and do what must be done in order for us to live accordingly to what we want to.
If we see the reality, it is time for the government realizes what they must do with their corrupt officers so they can runs their program properly. They must investigates their officers who commit corruption and punish them so slowly they can clean their government from those people. Corruption is a global matter that needs to be solve immediately before their country lose the chance to grow to be better.

It is not easy to clean the corruption especially if that was happen from a long time ago. It needs honesty and braveness from all officers to work better for their people. If their country can grow, that will benefit all of the people. Hopefully, the tax can be distribute to the right places.
You know the thing about government is easy to say and dictate. But when it's about the actuality of it, these officials in the government are like friends. Although there's always politics on it but in the end, it's always the same agenda for them and that's about the money that they're going to share from all of the taxation that they'll get including in gambling and under the tables.

So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
Why does the OP compare the taxation of gambling to depression? If the players are gambling to solve their mental health issues then it is a vicious cycle.

In any case, governments all over the world will eventually attempt to tax from every source they can think of. My fellow Naija friends who have been in this forum for a decent period of time already know this. You have to pay it or face problems sometime in future.

For the time being, "brain drain" is quite evident to be happening from Nigeria and the reasons are very much clear.

Corruption is a problem that cant really be resolved or something that cant get rid off with. Even if we do speak into those countries which considered as first tier or 1st world but still this kind of problem
does really exist no matter what. Tax is something that will really be commonly be misused specially if the officials are those people who do have bad intents on which this is something that they will really be using. As for taxation then just like on what everyone is really that talking into that it is normal for economical improvement or progress. There is really that those kind of hesitations when it comes to tax
usage. If the government will really be planning on taxing gambling on a particular country then there's nothing we can do but to deal with it.
It is difficult to resolved corruption if no hard intention from the government officers. We know many government officers involved in this activity without many people know and only those who are in their circle that can know. When it comes to tax, we talk about a lot of money that must be given to the country but the reality, those corrupt government officers use that as a chance to rich themselves. Nigerian government officers must get rid of their corrupt officers from their chair so they will have a chance to use the tax for developing their country.

Corruption fights back when you try to deal with it and that is even in a country where they are honest to their laws and punishment. In such countries, corruption exist despite the knowledge and awareness of the punishment but in most third world countries where people perpetual corrupt tendencies with impunity and the institutions are weak then it is difficult to maintain a sane society. A government that levies taxes on already inflated economy with no jobs, such is the height of recklessness because the accumulated tax collected would still end up in private pockets with the aims of the proceeds from tax collection defeated.
That is because they are protected by many outlaw in the government which always take care of them from something that want to investigate them. That is why every honest government officers must do something and don't have to afraid of those who want to use the tax for their own interest. They must realize that tax money can be helpful for their country especially their people to have better life in the future. With a help from their people, I am sure they can clean the corruption although that needs time. People doesn't want to see corruption in many places so they will help the honest officers to work best as they can.

Do citizens even have a choice when it comes to payment of tax in this country? try not to pay and you get forced by all known means and after you've paid the tax you don't see anything reasonable to point at as to what they used the money for. Normally, it's not out of place that gambling companies are being taxed before their operation in a region is allowd most expecially when you consider that the numbers of active gamblers in our country is at a rate that's quite much and such taxed money can go a long way in boosting the economy and solving some of the needs in the country.
Well in some cases, Citizens actually have a say. Yes, because there are some situations that citizens get extorted all in the name of taxation, some people/organisations end up paying for taxes they're not even meant to pay, due to ignorance of the country's tax laws and because they have no lawyers to critically analyze and interpret those tax laws for them.

Not just that, sometimes, it's even possible to avoid certain taxes through some means, and even if you're entitled to pay those taxes, you'll be able to legally avoid paying them and no one would force you to pay them. You've got a point but some certain things must also be put into adequate consideration. Such as, are these revenues really going to infrastructural development or projects that'll be beneficial to the people. If the answer is yes, then I absolutely have no problems with it, but every Nigerians knows that the government has already failed the citizens, and every revenue that's taken from the people and other establishments goes directly into the pocket of a few politicians and then the people are left with nothing but leftovers. So even if the government begins to tax gambling today, the only people that'll actually benefit from it would be themselves and not really the citizens.
I quit agree with you, man. I am not against paying of tax, u believe in doing the right thing first and let shame be for the corrupt government that are receiving the tax but are not using it to create a good opportunity for people in the society.

It's the same in our country, such taxes aren't really put into good use but into the pockets of the crocs. It's sad that the developing countries have inept officials that instead of helping people, they're putting themselves first and forgetting to help why they're being elected and put into their positions.

Unfortunately, that's the reality for most countries. Corruption is still rampant everywhere. Lucky if you are residing in a country where corruption is minimal. Because with tax alone, government can already improve the lives of their constituents. However, with corruption involved, a lot of funds are going to the pockets of these irresponsible politicians.

The same way they should be taxing exchanges that are operational in the country is what they should be doing to gambling companies who might not have a physical office in the country but have access to a large market due to the digital stage we have in the country.  These small mediums in an ideal instance are supposed to add up to the revenue the country is generating through oil to boost our countries GDP due to our large population of users of these gambling platforms. It's an advantage we have but since we're not even certain that when the gambling companies are taxed, the resources will be utilized the right way, it's not even encouraging to look at this from a positive eyes.
