There will not be war at all with North korea. Their ally is China which is probably gonna world leader in near future.

There has been serious strains in the DPRK - China relations over the past few years. China is not happy with Kim Jong Un, as he is trying to cut down his dependence on China. DPRK is importing a lot of machinery and other materials from Russia nowadays, replacing the Chinese imports. Also, DPRK is discussing allowing the Russian companies to operate in the mining and cargo business.

North Korea is "ready to fight any kind of war" waged by the U.S., leader Kim Jong Un said Saturday, and the hermit kingdom had a giant military parade to prove it.

The procession in capital Pyongyang's main Kim Il Sung Square marked the 70th anniversary of the nation's ruling Workers' Party and featured a myriad of military processions and colorful dance performances, all in immaculate synchrony. It appears to be one one of the largest military parades the country has ever thrown, according to The New York Times.

Elaborate celebrations continued the next day with a dolphin trick show attended by North Koreans and international media.

"The crowd cheered and laughed as the dolphins performed their tricks to music," reported British outlet Sky News, which gained access to the event. "It was, as far as we could make out, genuine enjoyment."

While the celebrations in Pyongyang were ornate, human rights groups say that most of the country's citizens are harshly repressed and suffering under horrific living conditions.

The forces are definitely not equal.

In a one-to-one battle, the North Koreans will be victorious, as they have superior fighting skills and morale. The advantage with North Korea is that they can afford the deaths of millions of their own soldiers and still they can carry on with the fighting. On the other hand, there will be riots and civil war in South Korea if the death toll reaches three-figures.

The external involvement (USA, Russia.etc) is the most important factor.

Looking back, this incident also just looked like another regular North Korean semi-empty threat even though this one did result in a couple soldiers' injuries...

Probably started just for political reasons in the North.

But I do believe there must be an end to this

Well it looks like its a truce which is good another war would be a pain to handle
(Especially considering one with nuclear powers involved on both sides MAD or not)

After marathon talks between high-level officials, the two bitter foes said in the early hours of Tuesday that they had found enough common ground to dial back the situation.

Pyongyang expressed regret over the serious injuries suffered by two South Korean soldiers in landmine blasts in the DMZ, and Seoul agreed to switch off the loudspeakers pumping propaganda broadcasts over the border Tuesday, both sides said.

I don't know if UN has responded this situation right now, since its general secretary is a Korean, Ban Ki-moon. Its could be a trigger for World War III if no country can't calm this situation down.
There won't be WWIII over Korean border. The last Korean war didn't do it and so won't the next. Kim is childish but not suicidal, he's just marking his territory.

Agree ... dictator keep power by putting fear on citizen with ... so called agressor / war ... like Russia do now ..

Check all country who never stop to tell -> we are near the war, we will build new weapons, buy new tank ... these are mostly the country where poverty people are the biggest one ! During this time the rich dictator can rulez the land...

I have heard that both the countries have agreed to sit together to diffuse the tension. Thats the welcome step in the right direction Smiley

South Korea is giving this issue a spin, saying that North Korea has apologized.
Bet KIm won't like that. Smiley

I think there is no danger that this incident turn into new war.
What happened is a common situation that is repeated every year at this time.
Kim must show strength and power, and prove to his citizens that he is still strong and unyielding and has everything under control.
Such situations are excellent for mobilization of hungry and desperate people in N. Korea.
This situation is an artificially caused for the purpose of Kim and his regime, and certainly will not escalate into a new war.

Agreed. There's been "acts of aggression" in the Sea of Japan before, no?

Kim must show strength but does anyone here believe Kim could follow through with war threats or endure a war for very long? I feel like their war machine is very, very light on men, intelligence, and ability to fight for sustained periods of time.

Yes, exactly.
As I predicted earlier in this debate, everything calmed down quickly without major consequences.
Kim showed to his people that he is strong and decisive leader, and South Korean authorities showed to their public that they are also strong and that they know how to protect their national interests but everybody were cautious and careful not to cross the border and cause open conflict.
All this is already seen many times and it's just a show for the public in both countries.

Kim wants war, why? Is it because he wants to see his people killed while he sits in his bunker watching it on TV? A true leader always has his peoples best interest at heart
Well it looks like this is a no. The two countries have now reached a deal and this unnecessary conflict has been avoided. Read more about it here.A
Also, as I've previously stated don't underestimate the strength of North Korea.

yeah North Korea is skew with Russia, and South Korea with USA.
arent they conscious about that. if the two country is controlled by the two big country?
and USA and South Korea have preparation 8 jet fighter to storm North Korea.
will be new drama we can saw it. what we can to do?
US is supporting South Korea, but I think the relationship between Russia and North Korea is not that close each other. Maybe Russia just take this advantage to sell their jet fighters and weapons.

North Korea Gets Ready For War? LOL, they've probably out of food again. And they just asking for additional gumanitarian aid this way.
"Ok they've stop paying. Lets fire at them couple times again. Make them feed us again. "
If you think that North Korea doesn't have a military force because people do not have food, think again. Let me pull up some statistics here:
North Korea has:
  • About ~690k active military personnel (ranked 5th in the World)
  • Total naval power of 1 061 (ranked 1st, more than 2x of what USA has)
  • Aircraft strength ranked 10th
  • Tank strength ranked 7th

However, some of these might be estimates and are just based on publicly available information. Here is a comparison of South Korea and North Korea.
The country should not be underestimated.

One question regarding NK and the U.S. is, How close to maximum war production output are both countries running, percentage-wise, if they decided to dive as a whole country into making war?
