Forum:
The owner of the forum had indicated to us 6-8 weeks ago that they were unable to continue hosting the site due to cost. Both Sxcer and myself (who where both admins on the board) were unable to get a backup prior to the blackout. So that hurt.
Site: sexcoins.net
Another contributor to the coin had scooped up the site, sexcoins.net, last year when it became available. Unfortunately the site may/maynot have been renewed and Sxcer was working with the domain name owner to xfr the ownership to him. Sxcer has paid for hosting for the site but at this time there is a dead page for our official site.
Ancillary Product/Projects:
datajumer.com: The bootstrap site is offline because of the following reasons: a) the .9 build that Sxcer is working on is a new db and the bootstrap will not work. B) the last copy put up there was over 6 months old and gettimg stale.
sexcoinapi.com: The API is offline because it was not getting any traction and I was not spending any time on that project
sxcdonate.com: The donation widget is offline because it was not getting any traction and I was not spending any time on that project
sxcwallet.com: The online fast wallet is closing on 05.01.2015 because it is not getting volume usage and I want to rewrite the codebase for the project once the .9 verison is/has been released and use the multi-sig capabilities for a more secure experience.
blockchain: The blockchain, http://sxcexplorer.com/chain/Sexcoin, is still up and running.
twitter accounts: SexcoinTeam & Sexcoin_NSFW are still online, but no one is posting updates and the auto re-tweet bot I was using to keep the account fresh has been turned off.
Android Wallet: There is/was an android wallet build. I have not heard any progress after the alpha build that I helped test with lavajumper, so I don't know the status of this project.
faucet: http://free-SX.Com, offline as of 04.28.2015 due to ongoing costs to run the site/hosting for the faucet. Sorry to see ya go.
The same open source/community vibe that made/makes alt coins possible is also the main reason that the coin is on life support now. The distributed help that we got building the coin is now causing issue because the parts that keep the coin available to the public forum/site are unavailable.
It is not that the devs want the coin to die. The devs (Sxcer and Myself at the minimum) on the project are still passionate about the future of alt currency. For myself I will say; I've spent the last year learning/building products for the coin. I loved the projects and enjoyed building the products. The time and effort were not for monetary gain (although a huge spike in sxc price would have been nice), I did this to help the community of sxc users.
Now there appears to be a white knight, someone in this forum is looking for the devs to help with a 'major' project. Unfortunately I've heard this song before. Over the past 1.5 years we have been approached with a number of 'huge idea' projects for the coin. Most of the time it is someone that has an idea, but wants us to do all the work. Hopefully there is a real project for the coin to help with. If so, please PM me an email so that we can discuss the project needs/costs.
For the rest of the Sexcoin faithful: The coin is quiet these days. If you are willing/want to buy domains/maintain forums/post to FB or twitter, let us know. We can always use the help. The current generation of Devs/supporters picked up the slack the last time there was a dip in the coins progress and hopefully a new crop of supporters can/will jump in to help.
Hi Digdug,
Thanks for the updates and the restoration of our confidence in SexCoin. Sxcer also got in touch with me via PM recently so it's excellent to see you guys still around. I can't talk publicly about our development too much due to NDA's and us still being quite a few months out from a Beta release, but I'll definitely PM you to give you a heads up on our plans. We don't need help with costs etc, having just completed our final round of investor funding with contracts likely to be signed off by mid June, we'll be fully financed through private means ... Once we have that sorted it's full steam ahead. If anything, we might be able to help SXC with some hosting until you guys get back on your feet, or contribute to some aspects of development to facilitate transactions, tipping systems and the likes.
SexCoin was always our first choice moving forwards, as someone has already mentioned, SexCoin is an excellent brand for its purpose and fits well with our needs. There are a few things I'd like to chat about, such as payment processing etc. It's not that we can't do it ourselves, but if you already have these kinds of components road-mapped, then best not to reinvent the wheel.
With that, I'll say thanks again for the update, be in touch soon!
