Probably the psychology of color... orange denotes creative dynamism, blue financial stability, etc etc.

Those are definitely understated/muted.

well if you live in the west were we read from left to right they would probably be going down, but if you live in the east where they read from right to left i suspect they would be going up. prophetic?

Neutral colors are great to start! I could see many of these tiled together, each with a different color to represent different features of the platform.
